While I do agree with the basic premise and principles that Michael has expressed in this post, I do believe that the significance of these 3 words got lost in the overall dialogue: “where leadership fails”….
Michael has a long, personal and consequential history with djt. So he knows exactly how trump thinks - his MO, his agenda, his pattern, his unique ability to lie, deny, deflect, and blame others; to intimidate, manipulate, silence, and threaten those who oppose him. To dodge bullets at the expense of others. And he also knows how easily djt is able to identify and “cast a spell” on those he perceives as “easy prey” and quickly generate a cult following of any size. We’ve all witnessed it and seen it’s destructive impact.
This extreme emphasis and spotlight on CK’s death has been generated and amplified by djt. He knew when and how to motivate his followers and amplify their rage and their thirst for revenge. He’s literally exploited and weaponized CK’s death to his political advantage. He’s successfully controlling the narrative, hence the outcome.
So YES, in a country that’s already divided, chaotic, fearful, hostile and violent, and owns LOTS OF MILITARY STYLE GUNS, leadership absolutely does matters. Leadership’s inherent power to influence truly matters. Because HIS words and HIS actions then become the leading message, the direction, the very AMMUNITION that his followers will use to obey his orders, at his COMMAND. So it doesn’t take much to quickly turned the grief, the anger, the hostility, the desire for revenge into an explosive bloodbath.

i know what you mean. I have often thought that we will not begin to right this ship until it has sunk clear to the bottom. (Crappy metaphor) IOW, we have to destroy ourselves, completely shred our constitution and have wholesale slaughter and starvation until this sickness burns itself out. Sort of like what happened to Germany. Only then will we begin to clean ourselves up and reinvent ourselves and oh then, then we will build the nation we have only pretended to be til now. Then we will become the shining city on the hill. I believe this day will come, but it will take at LEAST a century to even begin the process, which will take the better part of another century to complete. But hey, it took only a couple of centuries for the grand experiment to burn itself out; if it takes only a couple more to rebirth itself, that's not so bad. Four to five hundred years is a drop in the bucket compared to the entire history of man on earth.
