“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

“In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality was tacitly denied by their philosophy.“

If you boil it down, there are two groups of people.

Those who believe in a civilized society where Law and Order is the primary focus and personal rights and freedoms are a must. They abide by the Constitution of the United States and play by the rules set forth in the Constitution.

The other group of people who are bigoted and hateful of people who they believe are inferior and are willing to sacrifice their rights and freedoms to eliminate them from society.

Victims are left twisting in the wind while the elite keep clinking glasses at private clubs. While I agree with everything you said - I think it's important in this age of ridiculous lies and misinformation to always make sure everything is as legit as possible. On the Hyundai plant - the plant was not in operation so they weren't making car parts - they were working construction on it. Obviously that is not the point but I'm hypersensitive to stating anything that people can latch on to to discredit the actual point.

Expand full comment
Susan Raquel's avatar

TY for mentioning that. According to this article those arrested did not work directly for Hyundai. There were various construction companies involved.

""Based on our current understanding, none of those detained is directly employed by Hyundai Motor Company," it said. "Hyundai is committed to full compliance with all laws and regulations in every market where we operate. This includes employment verification requirements and immigration laws. We expect the same commitment from all our partners, suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors."

"We are reviewing our processes to ensure that all parties working on our projects maintain the same high standards of legal compliance that we demand of ourselves. This includes thorough vetting of employment practices by contractors and subcontractors," the company said, in part, adding that it will "conduct an investigation to ensure all suppliers and their subcontractors comply with all laws and regulations."

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hyundai-georigia-ice-raid-450-detained-electric-vehicles-batteries/

So now what? Construction on the battery plant will be halted for how long as new crews are hired? So with 500 fewer customers how will that effect businesses, families, etc.?

So, now, how many families will need more assistance to get food for themselves, pay for housing, etc.?

There has to be some other way to deal with these issues.

Expand full comment
Kay G's avatar

This was cosplay harassment!!! Hyundai is a South Korean company. These were contractors. They were likely there to get the plant up and running - as is Standard Operating Procedure when setting up a manufacturing plant in an another country that doesn’t speak your native language. How many Americans were readily available to assist Hyundai with the set-up who were fluent in Korean???

Good move Trump Administration!!

The Danger of American Fascism

By [Vice President of the United States] Henry A. Wallace

The New York Times, Sunday 09 April 1944 https://tinyurl.com/52t8jjnk

A fascist is one whose lust for money or power is combined with such an intensity of intolerance toward [others makes] him ruthless in his use of deceit or violence to attain his ends. … American fascists are …demagogues and stooges are fronts for others. … With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power.

Still another danger is represented by those who, paying lip service to democracy and the common welfare, in their insatiable greed for money and the power which money gives, do not hesitate surreptitiously to evade the laws designed to safeguard the public from monopolistic extortion.

The symptoms of fascist thinking … can be identified by their appeal to prejudice and by the desire to play upon the fears and vanities of different groups in order to gain power. It is no coincidence that the growth of modern tyrants has in every case been heralded by the growth of prejudice.

The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact. Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity, every crack in the common front against fascism. They use every opportunity to impugn democracy. They use isolationism as a slogan to conceal their own selfish imperialism.

They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. …. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection.

Several leaders of industry in this country who have gained a new vision of the meaning of opportunity through co-operation with government [warn that] there are some selfish groups in industry who are willing to jeopardize the structure of American liberty to gain some temporary advantage. … In an effort to eliminate the possibility of any rival growing up, some monopolists would sacrifice democracy itself.

[The] native brand of fascism … is an infectious disease, and we must all be on our guard against intolerance, bigotry and the pretension of invidious distinction. But if we put our trust in the common sense of common men and "with malice toward none and charity for all" go forward on the great adventure of making political, economic and social democracy a practical reality, we shall not fail.

If you start reading from the Old Testament's beginning, it's hard to get past the begets and the begots. If you read the last book in the New Testament, Revelation, you wonder if the writer was on psychedelics.

AI: The book of Revelation in the New Testament was written by a Christian named John. The author states in the book's opening verses that he was exiled on the island of Patmos due to his faith.

Key details about the author:

The author identifies himself as "John": but does not further specify which John he is, suggesting he was known to his audience.

He was on Patmos: when he received the visions and messages that make up the book.

He was writing to seven churches in Asia Minor, likely the churches he had some connection with.

The book was written around 96 CE, in Asia Minor, according to the text itself and many historical accounts."

Historically there were many versions of the Bible, translated from original writings or from oral history. Over time, Popes and King James - for example - revised scripture with new "word for word", "thought for thought", or "paraphrased interpretations", according to their own patriarchal biases and need to maintain power, as well as the cultural mores of their time.

These influencers picked and chose what to include or not to include. Women didn't fare so well, often landing on the cutting room floor.

"If you are looking for a Bible, try to find one that expresses the intention of the text. Or better yet, learn Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic!"
