Until Congress is forced to play by the same rules as all of us ordinary Americans, they will never act in our best interests. If a shutdown occurs, their paychecks should be at the top of the list to be curtailed and any pay they lose as a result should be forfeited permanently. Maybe that would provide some incentive to negotiate a realistic and equitable bill beforehand.

• Tariffs will crush those who try to feed themselves on their savings or scant wages.
• Medicaid, CHIP, SNAP. No help with any. Social Security does no justice to its name.
• All as winter nears, electricity will cost more and be consumed by AI. People will freeze.
• Disappearing breadwinners to places afar will leave families in even greater poverty.
• Legal fees for all those who must defend themselves against retribution or deportation.
• Rising insurance premiums (bye, bye ACA, much higher Medicare and at least some Med. Advantage Plans, if available), and higher costs cannot be paid with MIA income.
• Students in school at outrageous tuitions and student debts that must be paid. Must.
• How do Zoomers just out of college (or between jobs) find jobs? Ever. What a cluster.
• Who will be able to pay their taxes (on money they don’t earn) to keep the doors open?
• Yes, lower interest rates, so wealthy investors (who this is all about) should continue to make money so long as retail investors (that’s us) continue to prop up the markets.
Remember to be kind to and help others. We really are all we have and so many of us not only have less than we had, but already (or soon will/may) have less than we need.

Coast Guard does not as it's under the Homeland Security umbrella.shutdown.
