I just cancelled my Xfinity TV subscription today after not watching the tv for almost a year. It’s a waste of time with all these republican corporations owning the media. I’m not going to let them control what I see, hear and watch. Until things change, I’m off TV. READING is back in style for me. Internet, books and anything not associated with Trump in anyway (that I know of and when I do, I go another direction). Thank you, Substack and Blue-sky.
There will have to be another reorganization and reckoning with the mainstream media on the other side of all this. I now understand why its referred to as the lame stream media
Cheeto and his Nazi allies know that WE the People will carry the day So one of the prominent overarching Nazi strategies is to weaken the middle class
What does that look like? Primarily it’s the inflation game If you make it hard for the average American to make a living, the pressure becomes overwhelming and damaging Instead of 1 job, one needs to take on 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet No time for vacations, no time for time off, just bruising through with no end in sight This leads to an electorate that can’t pay attention to what’s happening politically and is so stressed due to inflation that voting becomes secondary or unimportant at all
This is why Cheeto is pushing all the country’s wealth away from the middle class and to the top 10% of the electorate which will reward him with support in political campaigns And this is why Cheeto wants to emphatically lower interest rates because this will cause inflation to go even higher
Inflation is the name of the game for Cheeto because it will create a politically disabled middle class and create a wealthy dominant oligarchic ruling class
Well, the old wisdom is that Americans vote their wallets. Presidents and their parties have typically been punished for an economic downturn.
I don't give this gang of crooks as much credit for longer-term thinking as you do. Trump is obsessed with money, and that means he has to bring others along with him.
Trump is underwater. His budget bill is hugely unpopular. That's why the emphasis for the Republicans has to be vote suppression, in however many ways they need to try.
I think there will be --atypically-- a huge percentage of voters turning out, not sitting it out. And who knows-- maybe the 90 million Americans who are ELIGIBLE to vote but who haven't gotten themselves *registered* (and therefore cannot vote) will get themselves involved.
Agree and well said Boomers will be carrying the day due to their numbers and retirement The key is to vote early to thwart vigilante challenges of voter registration The Nazis have an authoritarian playbook that has worked in many countries and they're applying the principles here but hopefully we have enough maturity of institutional strength and resilience to withstand the onslaught
The inflation problem is a symptom of a greater problem of a fiat currency crisis which as you point out is what will upend the Nazi takeover A grateful confluence of events
I found Miedas Touch network Justice Matters Legal Af Democracy Docket after Read Liz Cheney's book. And Trump announced his reelection. It's so nice that people are catching on all over the world. But it's all of you that started this resistance and No Kings gave this poor disabled old man hope they will win if it takes another American revolution. Peace
Trump supporters who don't vote are the best, and should not be disturbed!
We suffer from the idea that we need a majority of people to see what Trump is up to. In fact, we don't need more than a small percentage of us to get actively organized in non-violent resistance to defeat this regime. Erica Chenoweth is the scholar on this. Her research reveals that 3.5% of the population in resistance is the level required. I'd like it to be larger than that 😉 because I prefer to over-engineer things.
I think seniors and disabled are getting screwed bad. I did find a YouTube channel that keeps you aware of proposed Trump changes that effect the poor and disabled. And it doesn't look good. But I guess that's the plan to take away hope
I am physically disabled and dependent on a wheelchair. I reside in an Assisted Living facility. Very few seniors here speak up. I have been told not to. I do anyway.
I'm not a Boomer. I'm actually a War Baby (1944). I have never missed voting in a state or federal or local election. I've been an Election Inspector for 52 years and I set up, serviced and repaired mechanical voting machines for 35 years. To preserve and protect the vote, become a Poll Worker!
I am an armchair activist because I have been disabled for 25 years and a senior citizen. In my knowledge of history what has been happening it follows Hitler's playbook but also Putin's playbook too. First go after critics like Hilter and like Putin started out first going after comedians then critics. Trump is following Putin's training that's why they are buddies. He wants an oligarchy like Putin and there are a number of billionaires backing him up. Welcome to the United States of Russia. I had posted this on January 16 this year and it's coming to fruition. God help us all. Just keep fighting the good fight like Civil Rights Icon John Lewis said.
Me too. I worked 42 years and broke my neck shoulder low back and 4 major knee surgeries. At 72 I can't do much for work. So when Trump announced his reelection I made a thought what would Buddha do and realized that it was my personal responsibility to fight a racist homophobic sexist regime. But I'm scared and afraid for my future and millions of Americans are going to suffer and die because of Medicaid cuts. Too many people depend on these services to survive. And the US healthcare system is officially the worst healthcare in the world. But what scares me the cuts too federal housing assistance my rent doubles and I will likely be homeless at end of my lease. And almost everyone in Senior Citizen complex will likely be homeless too. Please resist at No Kings demonstrations near you on October 18
I'm so glad to hear that a Republican-appointed judge had the good sense to slap down Trump's attorneys' ridiculous complaint and call it for what it was--a long-winded, egomaniacal waste of time, written for an audience of one. Too bad there are so many attorneys wlling to prostitute themselves in service to the opposite of justice.
ANY OTHER POS who repeatedly filed COMPLETELY BOGUS lawsuits would likely be HEAVILY FINED until he or she stopped doing it. Once again, there are laws for deeply corrupt rich pr&cks like Trump--and laws for you and me.
I hadn't noticed and this comment puzzled me so I had to rewind the video. Is this a generational thing? When I grew up, it was acceptable for men to walk around completely shirtless in the summer (or maybe just near the beach?) My partner tried that in our front yard not long ago and a neighbor said, "Put a shirt on, old man." I don't see so many "No shoes, no shirt, no service" signs around anymore; I guess it is now an unspoken expectation that men wear shirts. On video and streaming, women can and may even be expected to show cleavage but men can't show a little hair? I really don't get it.
Corporate media has a dress code that puts men in suits and makes women slaves to the fashion ideas of white women, apparently:
Why do all or most Fox female hosts wear dresses that end above the knees?
I grew up in the era of miniskirts and never wore one again after they let us wear pants starting in junior high. But when I was on a National Outdoor Leadership Course (NOLS) in Alaska in 1976, we made saunas using heated rocks and rain flies, and we went in naked, men and women together, just sitting and talking, no sex and no exploitation.
I’ve been talking about what was going to happen since he first got elected! People laughed at me each election. On how I took it so seriously . Those same people are still oblivious!
"Show up to vote." What happens when he stops elections? "You'll never have to vote again. Just vote this time." He wasn't kidding. We're going forward as if there'll be an election in 2028. We need to start now to ensure there IS an election. HOW DO WE DO THAT?
yes but next their takeover of the internet will come and all independent voices will be gone. What do they do in China, NK, Russia... they block what they don't want you to see.
If and when Democrats take back congress i expect and demand that every Republican voted out of office be immediately charged and prosecuted for treason, corruption, crimes against humanity and conspiracy to overthrow the Constitution. It cant be back to business as usual, sorry about that, win some and lose some. There has to be consequences or ill never vote again.
I suspect Ryan Lizza's pessimism is rooted in a widespread misunderstanding: that we must rouse a majority of the population to the danger.
No, we don't.
We don't even need to get a quarter of the population on board (although that would be nice).
Erica Chenoweth is the scholar of this, and her studies of uprisings around the world reveal:
1) non-violent, collaborative resistance is the successful approach.
2) only 3.5% of the population, working and persisting in collaboration, have toppled regimes.
3.5% of the US population is about 11 million of us. Indivisible.org is working (along with MoveOn, ACLU, and many others) on this community- and resistance-building. A big part of which involves fracturing support for the regime. Businesses are susceptible to pressure!
This will not happen quickly or easily. We have the additional burden of galvanizing an outdated opposition party that still wants to play by their nice old rules.
But! There's no reason to be down in the dumps about it, other than it will require effort from us. And probably some changes in the way we have led our lives up till now.
We never know the future! No one does. We spend a lot of time thinking we do-- good or bad-- but all of that is only speculation. Why torment yourself with anxiety? Why not speculate "We can do this!"
I agree…but it will likely take a generation to recover and reform the system to make it less likely to happen again … we are an impatient people so let’s hope enough are willing to stay the course!
Yes, we in the dominant culture have had it nice for a long time. Thanks to TV, we expect problems to be resolved quickly (or we lost interest). But I think we can rise to the challenge, because it will not be nice any longer. I (and many others) think it will get worse. I keep a WW II framework in mind. I grew up in the triumphalist aftermath of that, but the fact remains it was four challenging and uncertain years, and victory was not assured. But, they did it, and we must too.

I read Senator Liz Warren and Cheney book. Liz Cheney's book was NYT best seller for a reason
Yes it was and I learned things I had not previously heard. Not good things.
I’m right there with you
Good move.
That's the direction I went myself.
The corporations are not just throwing the journalists under the bus. They are throwing our democracy and country under the bus for their profit.
There will have to be another reorganization and reckoning with the mainstream media on the other side of all this. I now understand why its referred to as the lame stream media
Also known as the "fog machine" because some formerly great news organizations now generate a lot of vagueness.
Profit over people it's the republicon way.
GOP: Getting Over on the People
Absolutely!!!

Malcom Forbes, who founded the magazine, stole from Kris Kristofferson and said: Freedom is just another word for a dollar in your pocket.
I think apathy is our enemy . I wish you could do a podcast for SENIORS. So many of Trump’s supporters are senior citizens. Lots don’t even vote.
Trump supporters who don't vote are the best, and should not be disturbed!

Ben, button up your shirt. You’re too distracting. 🤣🤣
Close your eyes. Listen to his words.
🤣🤣🤣
I noticed that too 😅. But I'm most comfortable in tshirts and elastic waist band. It's kinda nice to have casual news
That was funny...
