Civil disobedience is the deliberate, public refusal to obey certain laws or governmental commands, especially as a nonviolent and usually collective means of protest to highlight perceived injustices and force concessions or social change.

Right of Revolution: The Declaration of Independence states that when a government becomes destructive of the people's rights and aims to reduce them under "absolute despotism," the people have the right and duty to throw off such a government and institute a new one.

But how?

Expand full comment

Starting with strikes. ( Boycotting) Companies like Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, Walmart, Target, The Home Depot, and so many more. We have power, we just don't know how to organize to use it. Remember what happened when Jimmy Kimmel was canceled? We came together here in the states and around the world 🌎 and canceled ABC and Disney + etc, they lost 4 billion dollars 💸 and guess what? They reinstated his show in 3 days flat.

We should be doing these things consistently every single month. Civil disobedience, getting out there by the millions to protest the grotesque mistreatment of people and migrants. The last resort would be taking them out. Toppling the regime. Which sadly, I don't think that would be without violence. But that would be an absolute last, last resort! We just need to be creative in finding ways to defeat them.

Boycotts are surprisingly effective. It is a pity the contractors building and operating ICE detention centres and those who supply ICE with all their gear are not being harshly boycotted...

By becoming fucking uncomfortable that is how. By risking everything you thought you knew and daring to sacrifice.

Our own selfishness got us here and o ly by willing sacrifice will the people win.

The only non- violent way left is to lock the country down like COVID mi us the shopping sprees.

We must get businesses harmed by the tariff on board and stop the economy and be willing to hold it hostage.

Stop spending stop transactions and if necessary stop taxes. We are paying to be harassed. Taxes are extortion at this point. We are being forced to pay for our own torcher.

We must be wining to be uncomfortable and maybe worse.

From what I have heard, certain sects of Evangelicals believe in the idea that personal wealth shows that Jesus /God has shown favor upon them (the opposite of Jesus' teaching, yes) Also, there is some belief that if they are able to keep all the Jewish people in Israel, when the "Rapture" occurs Jesus will judge the remaining Jewish people in one place and the Evangelicals get to go to heaven first or some such nonsense,,,,,that seems to explain the love/hate relationship they have with the Jewish people at the present time. I am not of that ethnic group or religious belief so I may be mis-stating the deeper issues that they (the Evangelical nationalists) think are true.

I saw that one of Steven Miller's highest associates got caught talking on Signal App to others in the White House, saying Hegseth wanted to send in the 82nd Airborne (premier military) but was afraid to do it without direct authorization from Trump. The Minneapolis Star Tribune published images of texts sent on Signal by Anthony Salisbury, a top deputy to Stephen Miller, who said there was hesitation to ask military to go to Chicago or Portland, because it might look bad and generate opposition. So they are scared to ask the military! They didn't mention the fact that real military (not these cosplay jerks like Noem and Hegseth) wouldn't obey.

Might look bad!!! This is already a jaw-dropping yet, sadly w/a broken heart, not actually surprising action by ICE et al. I think Hegseth, and Stephen Miller, cannot *wait* until they can direct a full-scale invasion, by the U.S. military, of selected (blue) cities.

I hold tight to your statement that the real military officers wouldn't obey. From No mercy/No malice

By Professor Scott Galloway

We frame economic power as a contest between capital and labor, but the real star of the American economy is consumer spending, which accounts for 68% of GDP. The Great Recession saw a 3.4% drop in consumer spending — at the time, the most severe year-over-year decline since World War II. The U.S. economy registered a 9.8% drop in consumer spending during the second quarter of 2020, when Covid shut down the world as we knew it. In both instances the U.S. government responded aggressively, spending hundreds of billions, primarily on bailouts, to pull us out of the Great Recession, and trillions, primarily in direct aid, to get us through the pandemic. The lesson? When consumers stop spending, American leaders start listening. As Geo Hussar explained to his YouTube followers at the end of September, “this is not seizing the means of production, but seizing the means of consumption,” adding that if every American dropped their consumption, on average, by 2%, “that would be the most loud and potent form of protest.”

We are living in an authoritarian country now. I’ve been saying to Trump supporters that soon Trump might be coming for their guns because he won’t want anyone fighting against the government. I don’t know if they will happen but it’s the only way to speak their language and honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it did happen.

He will encourage them to turn their guns on their neighbours. Then his hands are (relatively) clean...

It was obvious to me. Kamala told you and told you. Don't use the excuse that she came into the race too late. Look to anyone who would not vote for her because she's a black woman. A strong black woman. And now we are all stuck. In great part because of you.

My question is…Does ICE have Blackhawk helicopters? Or is this the active military flying them in? If it’s the active military, the governor really needs to get the word out about Trump sending in active military even it is just flying helicopters.

Immigration arrests have increased in violence against immigrants and also against US citizens caught in the raids & protesters.

Trump & The Heritage Foundation members in the WH are making it as difficult as possible to protest. This is their goal. Thank you to all who are out there still protesting.

This is beyond appalling. When Americans start leaving the US because of this police state and harm done to American citizens and children - we will be the immigrants! What country would take such a violent people?

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE

Effective civil disobedience and successful activism require some degree of inconvenience and sacrifice. Strikes and Blackout are the most effective way to initiate change but they come with hardship and sacrifice. People could lose jobs and businesses may close.

But historically we have sacrificed far more. At this point, no one is asking people to walk miles to work every day for a year, endure personal violence or sacrifice their own lives like they did during the first Civil Rights Movement.

Our resistance efforts now are minor in comparison. The longer we wait to resist the more intense our sacrifices become. Above all resistance only works if we stand together. Mature adults are the ones building and leading this New Civil Rights Movement, the ones with knowledge of our history, the ones that fought for equality and remember what it was like before the movement. It seems like young Americans will need to directly feel the pain of the tRump's destructive cuts and illegal executive orders. This tRump nightmare could have been over already if we had united when he first revealed his authoritarian plans. Instead most Americans are sitting back watching our democracy collapse around us. So many more are clueless about the immense evil the tRump has unleashed in our country.

Unfortunately, people in this country don't want to be temporarily inconvenienced in any way and they definitely don't want to make the simplest of sacrifices like stop unnecessary shopping, avoiding traveling, limiting their entertainment!

Right now we have no where near the numbers of people consistently resisting that we need to save our democracy. The tRump is winning the war against our democracy and has begun the initial stages of genocide in America.

We have to decide if it is better to sacrifice some jobs or a few small businesses or do we allow the tRump to privatizing public education, health care and insurance, making it available to only the wealthy. On top of your mortgage, transportation, utilities, cell phone services and everyday essentials can you afford to pay private school tuition for twelve years and then college, medical expenses without insurance, nursing homes for your parents or grandparents? The tRump wants to privatize health insurance too. Say good-by to insurance benefits from work. Insurance is expected to double in price for everyone. Can you afford all of that? If not what will you have to live without?

The tRump has no plan to increase your wages. Do we continue to let the tRump regime, steal our Medical services, medications, food services for our veterans, disabled, children and the elderly. If we don’t resist more people will loose their jobs, homes, medical care, freedom and many more people will die from neglect while the tRump gives much more of our money to his billionaire oligarch friends?

Do we prefer to fight for our democracy or allow the tRump to continue to strip FEMA funds for communities that mother nature destroys, accurate weather alerts and food safety inspections? He has already ended science and medical research for climate change, cancer, vaccines, Alzheimer's and much more.

Would you prefer to have low wages forever, no civil rights, no truthful media, no right to choose what movies, TV shows or music we watch or listen to?

We need to bring down the true leaders of this country, the greedy billionaire oligarchs that fund the campaign of politicians that support the causes that make them richer. The only thing they care about is money. We need to hit them where it hurts - their bank accounts.

In order to do that and when possible we must stop giving them our money. We need to stop buying their products and using their services. We need to stop spending money unnecessarily. We need to make the oligarchs start paying the same taxes we do and they need to start paying their employees fair wages.

We need to support small businesses instead. Imagine if everyone stopped supporting the oligarchs owned national chain businesses and started shopping locally owned small businesses and restaurants instead. That's how we build our local economy.
