The third step is get involved in local activity supporting democracy (campaigns, protests, voter registration, voting). Fourth, talk to as many people as you can and explain what is happening. I had a semester of uni in Russia, and everywhere there were signs that said Догнать и перегнать, "Catch up and overtake," referring to Russia catching up to and overtaking the U.S. At the time, we thought they were hold-overs from the Soviet era that no one got around to taking down. Now it seems that's been Putin's goal all along. Putin's been playing the long game -- something the Russians are VERY good at -- and has just been waiting for someone like Trump to come along.
