Numerous other sources say much the same thing, although the wording varies. Martin Luther King and Charlie Kirk were both public figures. Their murders were clearly due to religious and/or political beliefs. Therefore, they were, in fact, assassinated.
I guess it's the degree someone is considered a public figure. The rightwing is makiing Kirk out to be more than he was. He wasn't that important, not anymore than other media mouthpieces. That's all he was. I noticed the rightwing didn't use assassination about Senator Hortman. Also we don't know yet what the reasons for the shooting, we're guessing political or religious.
For me, the bottom line is whatever is real definition I don't care. The rightwing uses certain words intentionally to strengthen or weaken a person.
