That's Connecticut Attorney General William Tong, and he is going to be one of the people you're gonna be hearing a lot about. He's gonna be a person leading the fight and suing Donald Trump when Trump tries to violate the Constitution and tries to encroach on states' rights. One of the things about Attorney General Tong

is he's actually also the head of all attorney generals throughout the United States who are part of this Attorney General's Association. He's actually very well respected, and he's someone who's defended the Constitution his entire life. And he goes, I will be, mark my words, the first person to sue Donald Trump if Trump tries to pull anything.

Connecticut's AG Is Showing How to Fight Back Against Trump's Threats on Day 1

Connecticut Attorney General William Tong and Democratic attorneys general stand ready to counter Trump’s unconstitutional actions.

Connecticut Attorney General William Tong isn’t mincing words when it comes to Donald Trump’s looming threats to the Constitution. Speaking with clarity and conviction, Tong made it clear he’s prepared to lead the charge against Trump’s attempts to violate constitutional rights and states’ sovereignty. From dismantling birthright citizenship to trampling on labor rights, Trump’s grandiose claims are being met with equally robust resistance from Tong and his colleagues. These attorneys general are providing an early roadmap for how to use the legal system to neuter Trump’s most dangerous movies on day 1.

“I will be the first to sue Donald Trump,” Tong declared, adding that he and a coalition of 23 Democratic attorneys general already have lawsuits drafted and ready to file. “In Trump 1.0, we created a firewall to stop him, and I have the plan and the recipe for how we will stop him again.”

This isn’t Tong’s first rodeo. As the head of the Democratic Attorneys General Association, he has built a reputation for fiercely defending constitutional principles. Tong, who grew up working in his family’s Chinese restaurant, sees his journey from the kitchen to becoming Connecticut’s attorney general as a testament to what’s possible in the United States. But he also sees Trump’s agenda as a direct threat to that promise.

Tong specifically called out Trump’s plan to end birthright citizenship, a move that would violate the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.” Tong vowed to defend this cornerstone of American democracy with every tool at his disposal, rallying a broad coalition of Democratic states to resist Trump’s unconstitutional overreach.

Democratic attorneys general have already shown their readiness to take Trump to court. They’ve fought to preserve the Affordable Care Act, protect DACA recipients, and push back against abortion restrictions in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision. Now, Tong and his colleagues are shifting from defense to offense, filing proactive lawsuits to counter Trump’s anticipated executive orders.

States like California and Illinois are already mobilizing resources, with Governor Gavin Newsom holding emergency legislative sessions to ensure funding for legal challenges. Democratic leaders across the country are creating a bulwark to stop Trump’s unlawful actions before they take root. Even local leaders, like the mayor of Denver, Colorado, have pledged to resist Trump’s agenda, vowing to stand against mass deportations and federal overreach.

While Trump’s legal talent leaves much to be desired—his senior advisers include figures like Stephen Miller and Alina Habba, whose tactics are often bizarre and ineffective—his rhetoric remains dangerous. Miller’s America First Legal nonprofit has been sending threatening letters to sanctuary cities, while former border official Tom Homan has been stoking fear in migrant communities.

However, Trump’s legal record speaks for itself. He’s more often a litigation loser than a winner, as evidenced by the resounding victories of E. Jean Carroll, who successfully sued Trump for sexual assault and defamation. Tong and his team have far greater resources than Carroll, and they’re poised to use those resources to expose the internal contradictions and unconstitutional actions that define Trump’s governance.

The schisms within MAGA-world are already becoming apparent, as Trump struggles to balance the demands of his wealthy corporate backers with the promises he made to his base. Democratic attorneys general are ready to exploit these inconsistencies, filing lawsuits that challenge Trump’s targeted enforcement of policies that disproportionately harm vulnerable communities.

President Biden’s record-setting appointment of federal judges has also tilted the judicial landscape in favor of democracy. Tong and other attorneys general will likely find their cases heard by judges who prioritize constitutional integrity over partisan loyalty, creating an uphill battle for Trump’s legal team.

Tong’s strategy is simple but effective: expose Trump’s lies and call his bluff. By rallying Democratic states and filing lawsuits rooted in constitutional principles, Tong is ensuring that Trump’s agenda doesn’t go unchecked. As Tong puts it, “We’re not just going to take it anymore. We’re on offense now.”

For swing voters who may still be flirting with Trump’s empty promises, this strategy provides a clear contrast. It’s about making personal connections, being authentic, and relentlessly delivering the truth. With leaders like Tong at the helm, Democrats are ready to meet Trump’s chaos with clarity, ensuring that democracy prevails over deceit.

Why does it have to always be one person that upholds Democracy? Why not the entire party who is now the Opposition. Their business is to Oppose. All the time. I think the next four years at least, will be messy. Constitutional challenges will be many. But also consider the possibility of unknown disruptive events. What if Trump died in office? I think Vance, untethered to Trump, is a real wild card, different from a Vance running for President with Trump alive. The Middle East is a flashpoint presently, and Putin’s intentions are worrisome. Ugly trade wars? Very likely, and likely to hit Trump’s voter base hard. trump will attempt to arrest such people as this, and it will be interesting to see how many of such attempts he manages to get away with. There are a LOT of police officers who are trump fans, and who is who will obviously show up quite fast - as soon as trump starts his attempts to assert his wishes in spite of any legalities ! A lot of folks will feel obliged to follow orders they receive but it is not necessarily true that he will find it a simple matter to force his wishes on Americans who know what the Law says ! Would be great if the Dem House and Senate members talking about finding ways to ‘work with’ the Trump admin, and those leaning wishy-washy in respect to his most outrageous cabinet picks (see Cory Booker on RfK Jr) could learn something from AG Tong. Some Dems seem to think that lying down while Trump does his worst will lead to a blue wave in 2028 mid-terms. Do we know which AG's (Dem AGs) are involved? I'm in WI and, while we have a Dem AG, (Josh Kaul) he is not someone who has takes a strong stand. For example, while MI, NV, AZ and GA charged their states' fake electors. WI instead charged Kenneth Chesebro; former Dane County Judge Jim Troupis, and Mike Roman, the former Trump aide. The 10 fake electors were not charged criminally related to the fake documents. Last year, the group settled a lawsuit filed by the real Biden electors against them over their role in the scheme. But still, no action came from our AG, Josh Kaul. Is WI a part of this AG team?

Finally there is hope. Numerous lawsuits against DumbF on a myriad of fronts will slow him down. After all, his hand-picked demonstrably corrupt Supreme Court can only hear SO MANY cases per year.

The reason I vote proves worthwhile over many years. I'm SO proud to have voted AG Tong into office in 2018 and again in 2022. My votes have mattered to the rights, freedoms, fairness, equality of US citizens in the 60's, 70's especially. WE have come to far to turn back 248 years of USA's attempts to form a more perfect union and the IDEA of a "shining light on the hill" for the planet.

Kudos to CT AG W. TONG ….. It is time for the Dems to wake up, stop the « cumbaya approach (when they go low, we go high) » and bring a gun and a junkyard dog to this fight instead of a kitchen knife!! Proposed ACTIONS that will send a clear message: 1) The Dems hold an « anti project 2025 rally » the day before the inauguration; 2) NO Dem attends the inauguration - and that includes Pres. Biden & VP Harris - return the favor to trump who did not show up; 3) At the State of the Union - NO Dem stands up when trump enters the Chambers; no Dem looks at the fellon nor do they applaud for anything he says - totally IGNORE him.

This feels so good to hear...... BUT Trump is disqualified RIGHT NOW constitutionally from holding the office of Presidency yet here it is, almost Jan. 20. Why is nobody stopping him NOW when there is Constitutional Law to back a disqualification?

Glad to see the legal community is not just rolling over and playing dead in the face of Trump's lawlessness. The biggest challenge will be the Trump corrupted Supreme Court. Not much point in suing when Trump has the Supreme Court in his pocket because that is where appeals all end up.

There absolutely is a point, and that is, the Extreme Court is finely tuned to the mood of the people. When cases come rolling in this year challenging Dumpty's horse waste, the message will be loud and clear, that this crap is unacceptable and will not go quietly into that good night.

The opposite of the point would be to do nothing and let them get away with it by obeying in advance, acquiescence is the life's blood of tyranny.

is he's actually also the head of all attorney generals throughout the United States who are part of this Attorney General's Association. He's actually very well respected, and he's someone who's defended the Constitution his entire life. And he goes, I will be, mark my words, the first person to sue Donald Trump if Trump tries to pull anything.
