Thank you for defending democracy, Leader Jefferies and Mighty Meidas. Please don't forget all the civil servants who are being fired and furloughed. My partner and I have lost our careers because of the fascists. We had to line up at a food bank last week. Then they ran out of food because so many of us are struggling with DOGE and the MAGA shutdowns.

Help us resist: https://democracydefender2025.substack.com/p/democracy-defender-reader-poem

I am so sorry. I hope you and your partner will be reinstated soon.

How juicy was that troll from Japan giving the president (who plans to celebrate the nations 250th anniversary with a bloody fight) 250 cherry trees? Will commandant Drumpf chop every single one down? 🪓🪓🪓🗽🗽🗽

Lady Emsworth's avatar

Love that! I bet there were a few "tee-hees!" when that decision was made!

J🌎n N☮️rthr🧿p's avatar

Yeah and if he made any connection with the cherry tree and the concept of truth, it's because he's the truthiest.

Terry's avatar

You mean Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi? Why would you call her a troll? There's been Japanese Cherry trees in DC for a very long time. You know, the flowering ornamental tree? I can't stand trump. I can't stand silly uneducated fools more.

Maybe this will help you:

Your comment is edited now, changing troll, to trolling. Why would you do that, and make it seem as if I don't know the difference between troll and trolling? Seems quite juvenile. My God, admit you made an error and move on. Don't blame me for your mistake. You understand it says 'edited' by the hour, correct?

J🌎n N☮️rthr🧿p's avatar

I made no mistakes. It says troll again. It's the same thing either way.

Terry's avatar

There's a huge difference calling a person a troll vs saying a person is trolling. Huge. You understood that, hence your edit. I caught you in an untruth, you've edited the comment back to how it was originally.

The Japanese PM isn't a troll, she was trolling him, I would agree. The ACTIONS are different than a PERSON. SHE is not a troll. Her ACTIONS were. I don't know how much clearer than that I can get. If you're too immature to say you've made a mistake, congratulations trump lackey. Have a great evening.

MAGA town halls were done by Dems when MAGAts were hiding from their constituents.

Teri M Hertler's avatar

As ALWAYS!! Dems fight for their districts, Repubs Don't do SQUAT!! Always been 'Late to the Party' for their district and constituents!! They're all a buncha Lazy Ass Bozos!!! NO PAYCHECKS for All MAGA Repubs that Don't SHOW up for Work!!! They are Screwing the American People, and continue to Lie to EVERYONE- SO-WE NEED SCREW THEM TOO!! Such

HALFWITS!!

What's really pathetic is that whether they realize it or not, Democrats are trying to HELP the Trump regime by keeping the ACA credits. Because w/o them, the Trump Economy is going to crash even faster.

Think about it. And realize just how stupid and self-destructive these critters are.

Geri Cochran's avatar

Their goal is to destroy our democratic republic; and replace it with authoritarian rule; which is in writing in Project 2025. So, yes, they are doing exactly what Project 2025 has outlined.

Also, if we are sick, we are being unproductive and not making money for the oligarchs. And treating us is expensive: why would they want us to even get health care if we can't afford it? :(

Ralph Hensley's avatar

The ACA is not a good plan but it's what we have at this moment. Republicans aren't doing anything for healthcare. I believe it's because Republicans don't care about anyone but themselves.

AERussell's avatar

Omg! I can't believe these moronic Republicans actually keep a straight face as they speak. What idiots.

Dik de Bruijn's avatar

If by idiots you mean mentally challenged, I have to disagree with you. They're very very smart. They got what they wanted: Presidency, Congress, SCOTUS, gutting the WH, billions in Trumpty Dumpty's pockets, etc. They are without a doubt MORALLY bankrupt, but ignoring how successful they are at getting what they want politically is one of the reasons Dems lost in 2024.

AERussell's avatar

I was actually speaking to the clip of them blatantly lying about what they are currently doing and expecting us to believe them. They are not out helping and listening to their constituents. It's laughable and insulting.

Mfly14's avatar

MAGA Mike Johnson is the 2nd biggest liar and he’s the one that tells the idiots what to say. I wish that people take a look how Nicaragua, Cuba, Venezuela etc look like because if this country continues to do as he wants, bc you know he wants a war so he can be president or king for as long as he wants. So I recommend everyone to see a documentary from Cuba and you will see why Cubans or anyone else can’t live there. it’s disgusting and awful! If you’re having a baby you go to the hospital there, it’s super dirty and no water pressure, they tell you to bring your blankets, towels, change of clothes, bring your bottle water and whoever else goes they need to take their stuff including any snacks. It’s terrible. Do you think the US is going to let this happen in America 🇺🇸?

Edith Brideau's avatar

It's already happening. has already happened, will continue to worsen. Protests aren't covered by mainstream news, so feel pointless (yes. I've carried signs to every one). Armed rebellion doesn't appear likely. The power appears to be in the hands of ICE. National Guard and local police. Any attempts to fight back will enable Trump to employ more military force against us. Republicans are planning to interfere with elections. I don't see any solution. Maybe there could have been a solution years ago. We didn't take advantage of it.

Geri Cochran's avatar

Yep. I believe we missed our chance, but it wasn't because some of us weren't SCREAMING. :( But, unfortunately, others didn't listen; so now we're no longer a democratic republic. :( (And by others, I also include those elected democrats who have voted with the magas. And those that kept saying, 'just give him time to become presidential.) smdh

Becky Bat's avatar

Other than cheating. I really wish that election had been contested.

John McNaught's avatar

The Republicans have been quietly working in small steps that at first made no sense but over the last ten years those small steps have added up to this disastrous impact on the various platforms that have hurt their own voters as well as those of us who still value this democratic republic.

Felicia Tisdale's avatar

Correction: One of the reasons Democrats lost in 2024 is because too many people believed the LIAR! Plain and simple.

Teri M Hertler's avatar

Also due to idk what the # was I'm guessing- 90Mill who Did NOT VOTE- Have put us Here! Ugh... (I sorta recall at 90m!)

Geri Cochran's avatar

This may not be popular, but I believe it was also because Kamala Harris would not say anything against Biden's and Netanyahu's partnership regarding the genocide. I voted for her, but I had a very hard time doing so: genocides are against my beliefs.

John McNaught's avatar

I knew immediately upon Netanyahu's election in Israel that the middle east and especially the Palestinians were in for a very bleak future. He caused a lot of serious problems while in the Israeli military and even more trouble in the Mossad. He has far exceeded my expectations as Prime Minister. In my opinion his actions are nothing less than that of a war criminal.

Dik de Bruijn's avatar

You are correct that that is another reason, but there are many others. Add in Joe Biden, forcing Kamala as the nominee, poor pick of a VP, Kamala's inability to articulate actual Dem policies or distinguish herself from Biden . . .

WJB Motown's avatar

Hey Dik.......you certainly have not read any of Kamals's book......she was right about Canks....2025.....mass deportations.....the destroyed economy....America being gutted, humiliated and tossed aside.

It was not a landslide loss......another one of the Orange Pedos jetstream of BS......the fast food garbage that you thrive and exist on.

Dik de Bruijn's avatar

Correct that I have not read any of Kamal[a]'s books. I see no point in reading stuff that's ghostwritten and prefer to stick to the classics, such as the U.S. Constitution, or unvarnished speech like debate transcripts. But, hey, thanks for insulting someone you don't know. Confirms you're a MAGAt at heart.

WJB Motown's avatar

You are the poster MAGA child dude!!! Having researched Narcissitic Personality Disorder....can see right through you and your Orange Messiah. Your projection NOT working on me.

You must be aware of the Florida Grand Jury transcripst of Trumps underage rape victims......where he throws a few bucks at a the poor girl.

RobinsNest's avatar

How successful they are? They lie every time they open their mouth. Are you suggesting the Democrats should blatantly lie also?

Dik de Bruijn's avatar

How successful they are, yes: as I wrote, they have the Presidency, Congress, SCOTUS, etc. Lying and being successful aren't mutually exclusive, and in politicians frequently go hand-in-hand. And no, I am not suggesting Dems should blatantly lie also. I would have just written that, no need to be subtle here. However, Dems do lie: Biden, Walz, Clinton, Shapiro, etc. They don't lie on the scale of Trump or Santos, but they do lie. Is it more palatable to you to say they merely "embellish?"

Ralph Hensley's avatar

Maybe not as smart as you give them credit for but definitely devious and evil in their manipulation and planning

Ralph Hensley's avatar

We, the People, must call for a refund of pay and benefits for all elected officials during a shutdown. If we can do it, I bet shutdowns will be few and far between

S. A. Linden's avatar

I have noticed for quite a while that Fox and its radical "friends" have resorted to outright lying. They rarely did that earlier. But now they are telling outrageous lies just because they're allowed to. (bye Fair Standards Act).

So . . . desperate House Republicans are ALSO telling bald-faced lies. They have nothing else.

It's really sad.

Here’s how FukN stupid the gop is, we have a rep from Arizona with almost a million people in her district, maga dickless, mike refuses to open and swear her in. Now that’s how stupid their supporters are if they believe them because why the fuk would the Dems not be in DC or want Congress open they have to swear her in and if the Dems are keeping the G closed that means we’re shooting ourselves in the foot by not swearing her in!!!! I mean WTF!! I just can’t believe how they just lie to the people they represent how can they look at themselves in the mirror? They have ZERO morals ZERO respect for us Americans. I FukN hate them! And then the Mango Mussolini telling the world steam ships??? FukN Jagoff moron a nuke sub and ship can operate for 20 years before refueling and BTW Donny dumpster trump NUKE REACTORS MAKE STEAM YOU FUKN DUMBASS!!

Indivisible is call in for a boycott of Spotify since it's advertising for ICE. Would you consider boycotting it? The other podcasters do the same, but gotta start somewhere. If all of the independent media on the democracy side boycott, that would be great start. Thank you for Meidas!!!

Brett Meiselas's avatar

I absolutely commend their efforts! But stepping away would mean ceding ground in a space where we should all be trying to reach as many people as possible. Last year, Spotify’s podcast charts were completely dominated by right-wing voices — and many believe that played a role in fueling Trump’s presidency.

After a lot of hard work, we’ve finally managed to pierce that right-wing bubble and reach a broad audience on Spotify. In my personal view, it would be a mistake to give up those gains now. Unfortunately, we live in a world where, no matter where we turn, we end up using products owned by less-than-savory figures. Is Amazon better? Apple? Comcast? Google? Probably not.

That’s why I think we have to operate within the framework we have — and focus on drowning out right-wing disinformation with facts. Though I completely understand the arguments for it.

Geri Cochran's avatar

I've never used spotify; and many other things these maga oligarchs sell us; but I would boycott if I did. However, I have no problem with news people who tell the truth participating with spotify. No doubt Meidas will let us know the reactions of the magas on that site; and if they can effect change, that's great!

Bernie Sanders and a few progressives go into deeply red areas to give their speeches, and they get thousands of participants where ever they go. Bernie is able to affect some change in magas, when he explains that democrats are not demons, and don't eat cats/dogs, and don't kill their babies after they are born. I wish we could clone him, as well as a few of the democratic progressives. :)

Vangie's avatar

But can you explain the ICE ads I see while watching MeidasTouch on YouTube???

Brett Meiselas's avatar

We have no control over what ads play on the podcasts if they’re not the ones read by us in the middle of the show. Those are added by the tech platform, so in that case, by Google.

Vangie's avatar

Meidas runs ICE recruitment ads too. When the ICE ads come on, I hit MUTE. But please, tell me why Meidas shows the same ICE ads?

Brett Meiselas's avatar

We have no control over what ads play on the podcasts if they’re not the ones read by us in the middle of the show. Those are added by the tech platforms.

Vangie's avatar

Thank you for the explanation, Brett. ..

Fight cruelty with compassion for the homeless, the marginalized. Without SNAP things are about to get a whole lot worse, and food kitchens provide only 1/8th what SNAP does even with help from the National Guard.

Geri Cochran's avatar

My husband and I are on a fixed income, but we're helping a few of our non-maga neighbors with food. Unfortunately, our organic garden is no longer producing so we'll have to buy food: but that's okay. And, no, I will not help the maga neighbors because they've threatened bodily harm as well as to harm my property or dogs. I know that won't go over with Christians: but that's where I am.

Why can’t we replace the Representatives who have “abandoned” their jobs???

Madeleine A's avatar

That's a good idea. This paid vacation isn't part of their benefits package.

Republicans: I'm not paying for people who don't want to work. Get your butts back to Washington or we're stopping your paychecks.

Geri Cochran's avatar

But they are all getting paid, aren't they? lol Well my congressman, Moran, refused to take a check until the government re-opens ... but he'll take the back pay. lol

Geri Cochran's avatar

I wish we did. Canada has a way of firing them all if they are not doing their job for Canadians. Then re-elections take place I think within 30 days. I'm sure I don't have all the nuances, but it's something like that.

Melissa Barker's avatar

What the heck are they saying ??? The republicans have no clue what they are talking about. It sounds like they are just saying nothing to say they talked to the people. It’s obvious to all of us that they don’t have any sense like they are brain dead ☠️. They don’t care about the American people

Vel Santic's avatar

Thank you, Leader Jeffries for standing strong against the Republican nonsense, especially Speaker Johnson who is a reprehensible person who plays a Christian on TV. The Republicans and the Trump administration are vile phones who only care about how much money they can stuff in their own pockets. Keep fighting!!! We appreciate you!!! 👏👏👏

WJB Motown's avatar

The gov lockdown is all about shutting down the Epstein files!!

Dana Borowka's avatar

It is shocking how many rep I've spoken to dont understand why inflation took place after trumps first term. They don't have a clue how biden took a very tough situation and brought inflation down. Most don't even know about The Heritage Foundation...thats why Trump loves the ignorant masses so much. Once it hits them financially that Trump only cares about two things...his fragile sense of self and his bank accounts....they might wake up and realized they were conned by a true conman. Trump university says it all when he was up on RICO charges and settled out of court for 20m to settle the class action suit. In 2016 cbs 60 min did an outstanding segment on how they conned the students. Hopefully some rep will stand up and bring the shut down to a halt and keep affordable health care and SNAP for those in need. I also want to thank the thousands of hard working gov employees for all that they do for each of us. Those that I know who work for the gov..they are professionals who care about what they do and go the extra mile. Ignore will not rule at the end of the day. Thanks also for the outstanding reporting...

Geri Cochran's avatar

Heck, most of them don't read the bills they sign off on...Their public school teachers taught them better, surely.

She's telling you to not listen to the facts.

Here's my tske on this. I am sick of these wimpy Democrats who haven't found the balls to consistently and constantly hammer the MAGAs. I said it before, every day, all day, MAGAs gloods the zones with lies. All we constantly and consistently hear from Dems is wimpering and crickets. When are they going to take control of the narrative? Haven't they learned yet that the longer they leave the lies out there unchecked, they grow bigger and multiply and become the truth in the minds of those who want to believe the nonsense? I guess they have not. Gavin Newsome is the leader of the Dems except no one in power has the guts to do what he does

SeekingReason's avatar

Jay, All media conglomerates are owned ny trumpers…look up ultimate owner of every single tv station. This is why a steady stream of lies continues. Most large corporations in the U.S. are also owned by the right…fossil fuels etc places like Home Depot are owned by the authors of Project 2025. Why the hell are you talking about Dems now when a seditionist-Convicted Felon-Rapist is engaging in Fascism along with an admin of the most in incompetent batch of former Fox News Laughing stocks that we’ve ever seen!

Kathy H's avatar

Only because we NEED democrats to find a way to reclaim our country, whatever it takes. They are supposed to be the party of the people & we need to know if we back them that there is a way forward. We know there are constraints, but we need leadership that can stand to this regime.

Michelle's avatar

It’s happening. We just have to do our part as well. Yes the democrats seem late to the party but they are finally showing up. I think our protests have been vital in proving to the dems that we really care.

Vangie's avatar

I do agree with you. The Dems in the House are quiet. Swalwell, Crockett, AOC, are boisterous on camera, but they are only 3 of 213 voices. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER DEMS!!! YOU NEED TO BE LOUD AND PROUD!!! LET'S HEAR ALL OF YOU!!! THERE IS NO ROOM FOR COMPLACENCY!!!

EUWDTB's avatar

FYI: the job of a Rep is not to do what GOP Reps do, it's to WORK. That's why you don't hear from EACH Democratic Rep ALL the time.

Only if we start valuing real democratic work in Congress again will we have a chance to turn this around.

This kind of blind, constant complaining without any serious fact-checking is what got us here in the first place.

Geri Cochran's avatar

According to AOC and others, they spend at least half their day getting donations for their campaign. When one has to spend that much time getting donations, it takes away from them governing for us. How about ending Citizens United, and revising our candidate rules in which each has a certain amount of federal money to run: so they don't have to spend this time doing nothing for US.

EUWDTB's avatar

Well yeah... how about that?

Perhaps we could finally work hard to elect a supermajority of Democratic Senators (60) all while giving Democrats the House and Presidency so that the campaign finance reform bill that Pelosi passed already under Obama in the House and that repeals the SC Citizens United ruling entirely (among many other things) could finally be signed into law... ?

Geri Cochran's avatar

Murphy should be included in this group: and Democrats should be learning from Bernie Sanders. Why are they not learning from people who have been effective? Because the corporate democrats as well as many moderates do NOT want big change.

John McNaught's avatar

Elise Stephanic should also be added to any list of pro voters Representatives

EUWDTB's avatar

Bernie has NOT been effective. He merely reminds us of our Democratic IDEALS. That's important, of course, because we need to be clear about why we're in this.

But then he skips the democratic process, claiming that we could write all these ideals into law tomorrow.

We could, but only AFTER "we the people" work hard to convince enough fellow citizens to vote, and to vote for Democrats.

I wish he'd finally start explaining THAT to people too...

And then indeed, he falsely blames Democrats for not being able to pass DEMOCRATICALLY what 99% of Democrats WANT to pass BEFORE we give them the majorities needed to have the legal power to do so. Then, his rhetoric becomes truly counterproductive and undermines real, radical, non-violent, democratic progress altogether.

John McNaught's avatar

I live in South King County of the Seattle Washington area and am so pissed off by my Representative Adam Smith. After several calls to his Congressional office and being steadily ignored in calls for a town hall meeting in my city of Federal Way. I am seeking to remove his useless ass from office. I was especially mad at his support for for the Boeing Corp over the employees unions. Unions have been a giant plus in my working history. Time has come to wake up the average voters that Unions have been a great big positive influence in our workplace and In our abilities to make our lives more prosperous.

Nancy Lent Lanoue's avatar

Dems going to red districts to do town halls when cowardly repubs won’t show up is a strong, effective push-back. We need to support more. Also, JB Pritzker!

EUWDTB's avatar

FYI: this very article includes an interview with Democratic leader Jeffries. So if you want to hear from Democrats, perhaps you could first LISTEN to the interview, and then give some comments on substance... ?

That would definitely be more helpful than the same boring Dem bashing, which is what got us here in the first place.

Dik de Bruijn's avatar

"Their constituents are furious, and it’s easy to see why." If RINO Crenshaw's constituents are furious, great! Most of them probably voted for Trumpty Dumpty. Think they'll figure out that by trying to inflict pain on the "woke," they inflicted it on themselves? Nah . . .
