The People's March? There has been very little publicity about this march. I think I heard of it several months ago. Another boondoggle by Democrats/Progressives which will do nothing more than show lack of support when only a few thousand people show up. That's worse than doing nothing.

Expand full comment
Susan Hills's avatar

I totally disagree and totally believe everything counts. Even if the few that show at some of these smaller marches that combined, even if those few people reach out to each other and provide support in a united voice, that will be a very good thing.

You might remember the women's March after his first inauguration... close to or slightly more ,(can't recall now but...), than a million WOMEN showed up for that one, & that was just in DC... there were marches across the country in major cities & smaller metros also! Here in Des Moines Iowa, we will have to drive just a couple hours no matter which direction we go... Davenport is east; in the Minneapolis metro to the north, near Omaha to the west & couple near and in the KC area to the south...We have a couple in or near Madison WI too! Go to Women's March website to find one in your area, looked like more than a few hundred dots were on the map across the country! Now, this one was upgraded from just a women's March to include all gender affiliations, races, socioeconomic status religious beliefs etc... ALL AMERICANS regardless of your stripes, so to speak! There is a women's strike called for Tuesday, the 21st, calling on ALL WOMEN to drop out of "life/society" for the day... skip work, no shopping ie food, gas, makeup, Amazon... just do not spend a dime ANYWHERE! DO NOT GO TO WORK, (personally I would have to draw the line on nurses unless there are sufficient numbers of male nurses in your hospital)... That being said, WE NEED TO MAKE THEM SEE JUST HOW VITAL WOMEN ARE IN THIS COUNTRY's ECONOMY! You can check out those details on the same website!

A protest is a protest. Maybe the numbers aren’t up as high as we’d like- yet - but for now all we can do is resist, each in their own way and offer unbridled support to those who can go above and beyond. The crowd, no matter how large, is only seen if you’re present. (Or, whatever the kompromat media tells you it was)

She is such a wonderful orator, is she not? I absolutely love the SPOKEN WORD, just as my other hero, Maya Angelo, at Clinton's inauguration, her "On the Pulse of Morning"! I felt both of these poems deep into my soul... I'm tearing up just typing this, remembering them both... I have a pocket size copy of Maya's along with The Constitution that I found in the most amazing little book shop in Union Station when I traveled to DC as a student body representative back in the mid 90's! We were lobbying for FULL funding of the Pell Grant program, which was/& still is never funded to it'sfull potential... if it was college/university students might not ever have to borrow a dime to pay for their higher ed aspirations... little known fact!

LOVE💜🩷❤️ them BOTH!

Doubt it, but they both are not just poets... Amanda was the 1st official Youth Poet Laureate ever named by the Librarian of Congress & Maya, although never officially given that title by the Librarian of Congress, is known by the American people as an American Poet Laureate... shocking that she was never officially given that honor after all her life's works... both in her books & books of poetry!

A great darkness and fog and we MUST be the light that pierces it, and we can be...there are thousands of us who can do a little, and hopefully thousands who can do a little more, and some who can do a lot. We just have to make sure we all do something. There's no more time for hand wringing, expressing in short face book comments (or whatever) how much we hate trump. It is time to move steadily towards action. I am hoping for discussions of what are the bet actions to take (I don't have much income and will have less when the tariffs are imposed, so here is an example of a question I have...is it better to donate $10 to either a specific campaign or spend $10 on stamps/postcards for one of the postcards for voters projects? Is it better to give $10 to help Indivisible or contribute to the ACLU for one of their actual court fights (and yes they already have tons of money but does more help?). I don't know and can't do all. How can we get info from the DNC or any group about what specific actions they are going to take to increase the awareness of our message (all the emails I get asking for money just basically say join us in the fight for democracy we can't do it without you).

I am on SSDI, less than $1400/month... I have written off the DNC! I donate $5/monthly to Leaders We Need, (started by David Hogg, one of the school shooting survivors; he was the kid that MTG was chasing down/harassing just before she took office... she's such a lowlife, he was still 17 at the time!) Back to the DNC though... they have written Iowa democrats off, left us out to dry! The RNC comes in & spends BOO COO $$ on all their candidates, most of whom are unqualified for the offices they wound up winning... since 2020, the offices they've snatched from our very experienced dems are the AG, Treasurer, & Agriculture Secretary! The only state office holder I donate, ($5/month), to is our Auditor, Rob Sand,(the only Democrat left in State Office), both our state senate & house are now SUPER majority reds... in just 3 cycles from 2020-2024! It's disgusting & very disheartening to say the least! Our govenor, kim reynolds,(#reprehensiblereynolds), has the lowest approval rating of all 50 states! She's systematically destroying our public education with vouchers, rolled back child labor laws,(appalling), enacted one of the strictest abortion bans in the country just like TexASS, Floodira & all the others! We are losing Dr's & teachers at Nascar speeds... she rewrote work comp laws/med malpractice/teacher requirements in an attempt to coerce some to stay... that is NOT working! & just this last week, has decided to create her own DOGE version of chump's... this after she already dismantled 37 full departments that had their own heads of said dept to just 16, & they all answer DIRECTLY to her! She is our own little DICK🥔!

I’m trying to figure out why they love the GOP? Is it because gerrymandering has kept minorities from voting? Because the wealthier always going to vote for the Republicans. And as far as I’m concerned, it has to do with “religion”. They put their heads in the sand and don’t realize they are not voting in their best interest. And they are going to find out in the next four years.

Reprehensible is right! The Democrats have to get up off their asses and do something! The right has been planning this for years and executed their plan very well as is evidenced by what is going on in your state! As a nurse and a family member, who is a teacher, we are going to lose our obstetricians by the droves! They’re not even going to be able to afford their malpractice insurance. And teachers are not going to stay in the education field with what they are doing in the government right now. And now as our Secretary of Eduction, we have trumps buddy McNichols, who has absolutely zero idea, as did, Betsy DeVos, of how to run our education system in the country!

I'm close to 75 and I just got back from a long hike at -20° with my two Alaskan malamutes. During my hike I was accosted by someone with typical Republican rage. He threatened me and I thought how am I going to diffuse this because he was looking for a confrontation. So in my near 75 years of experience I asked him "what are you going to do beat me up? I'm 75 years old". He he replied angrily "whatever it takes". I realized then that I was dealing with hardcore Republican rage and indignation and that the best approach for my own safety was to ignore him, not respond do not engage. When he couldn't get a rise out of me he kicked my dog. No harm done to the dog so I apologized and left. If you cut off the attention the maga crave they'll have no choice but to turn their anger and rage to the people they voted in. In dealing with Maga maybe the best solution is to not respond and just carry on. The time is coming when they turn on their leader and all we have to do is sit back and smile. You know the smile that one that says I know more and better than you do. We can repair and undo the damage they cause nothing they do will be permanent all we have to do is Ride The Wave and smile that knowing smile.

It is completely counter-productive. The rest I get. But boycotting your neighbors' jobs? Boycotting something made in America instead of China or somewhere else? Boycotting American grown food... and eat what? I buy as local as I can, as unprocessed as I can, as close to home as I can, so I can support my neighbors and support my community's economy. I just bought an American made blanket woven of wool grown in America as a gift to my daughter. Good morning Annie. I see your point of view, and I’m sorry, but in order to get a message to our importers and to your president via your importers/exporters, manufacturers, and producers, the only way to do that is with my wallet. If your leader imposes tariffs on our goods we must respond in kind. And if we all cease using American services and stop buying American brands, that puts pressure on your government to knock it the hell off sooner rather than later which helps us all on both sides of the fence.

With the exception of two idiot politicians here (Poilievre and Alberta’s, Danielle Smith), our government has formed a united front against Trump and I fully support them imposing retaliatory tariffs on America. I and my family and friends, along with probably millions of other Canadians, will be doing our part to send a message to Trump as well in the only way we can.

Nothing personal. Soon as he removes the tariffs, it’ll be back to business as usual.

Take care, and I’m sorry if my post offended you or caused you to be upset ✌🏻
