I caught up with Senator Adam Schiff this week to discuss the rot inside Trump’s DOJ. While they like to throw around the phrase “law and order,” we all know that’s just a mask to hide their unparalleled corruption.
Donald Trump appointed Kash Patel, essentially just one of Trump’s internet trolls, Director of the FBI. Yes, the same Kash Patel who used to post memes of himself pretending to saw the heads off of Democratic politicians, including Senator Schiff himself. This is who is now running the FBI. And watching him testify before Congress was humiliating, not just for him, but for the United States of America.
One of the most jaw-dropping moments of Patel’s testimony came when Senator Schiff pressed him on the Jeffrey Epstein files. For years, Trumpworld has dangled this so-called “Epstein list” for political purposes. But when Schiff asked Patel to name names, Patel claimed, under oath, that Epstein trafficked girls to no one but himself. That’s right. According to Patel, after decades of allegations, testimony from survivors, and extensive reporting, Epstein’s only client was… Epstein.
You don’t need to be a lawyer, a prosecutor, or even particularly sharp to realize how absurd that is. Survivors like Virginia Giuffre have already given sworn testimony naming powerful men. There’s plenty of evidence that the truth is deeper and darker. Yet Patel and Trump’s DOJ want us to believe the “list” has exactly one name. It’s insulting. It’s gaslighting. It’s a cover-up.
Not only that, but a federal court has already ruled the DOJ can release the files. They don’t need to rely on other courts. They don’t need to redact grand jury testimony. They don’t need to hide behind procedure. They could release the documents today. They simply refuse to, because protecting Trump and his cronies is more important than being honest with the American people.
Senator Schiff and I spoke about how experienced career agents are being fired, demoted, or pushed out simply because they worked on investigations into Trump, whether it’s Mar-a-Lago, January 6th, or anything else. Meanwhile, Trump’s hand-picked loyalists, people with résumés that would be laughed out of a county prosecutor’s office, are promoted into senior positions.
Imagine being a veteran counterterrorism agent, dedicating your life to tracking threats against this country, only to find out your new boss is a 22-year-old intern turned political hack. Morale is collapsing. Cases are going unworked. Terrorism, counterintelligence, organized crime, critical cases are losing resources so Patel and Dan Bongino can chase social media clout.
Juries across America are starting to view FBI testimony as political theater. Defense attorneys are holding up Patel’s trolling posts in court to discredit frontline agents. Cases, drug cases, counterterror cases, violent crime cases, are getting thrown out, not because of bad policing, but because Trump has turned the FBI into a laughingstock.
We also touched on Trump’s economic lies. Remember his big promise? Day one, he’d bring prices down. Instead, his tariff policies are driving them up. Families are struggling with rent, groceries, and gas, while Trump brags about his new palace in the sky and his new ballroom.
Senator Schiff pointed out that in just eight months, Trump has made more money than in his entire life before the presidency. That isn’t capitalism. That isn’t business genius. That’s graft on a level we have never, ever seen before. Trump sues media companies with bogus claims, then uses the FCC to extort settlements that enrich himself while rubber-stamping mergers for his donors. Your personal economy is worse. Trump’s personal economy is thriving. And he wants you to thank him for it.
And if all that weren’t enough, Trump’s FCC is openly trying to silence dissent. Brendan Carr, the FCC commissioner who literally helped write Project 2025, is spending his time posting Office memes while threatening late-night comedians. Jimmy Kimmel? Forced off the air after Trump complained. Stephen Colbert? Done. Sinclair and Nexstar? Begging Trump’s favor by demanding apologies from comedians for jokes.
Trump’s government is censoring comedians while forcing media companies to pay him off in order to merge. This is banana-republic corruption with a spray tan.
Senator Schiff and I ended our conversation with a sliver of hope. And truthfully, there is hope. Courts are still throwing out Trump’s sham lawsuits. Prosecutors refusing to follow illegal orders. Fired CDC officials are testifying about the dangers of Trump’s anti-science agenda. Ordinary Americans are showing up for one another, helping immigrant kids get to school, making food deliveries so families don’t risk arrest, and so forth.
Every single day, people are refusing to bend to Trump’s authoritarianism. And the American people aren’t embracing this madness. Trump’s approval ratings are plummeting. His corruption is too obvious. His incompetence is too dangerous.
So when things get tough, don’t give in to despair. Stand up. Speak out. Support independent media like ours and anyone else getting you truthful information during this perilous time. Let’s stay strong, refuse to let them gaslight us into silence, and save this country.
