Exclusive: Canadian MP Strikes Back at Trump in Nationwide Tour

My latest conversation with Canadian MP Charlie Angus proves one thing—Trump has awakened a democratic giant to the north.

By Ben Meiselas

When you push people to the edge, they fight back. And nowhere is that more evident right now than in Canada. I was joined once again by Member of Parliament Charlie Angus on the MeidasTouch Network, and you know that Charlie is never one to hold back.

Charlie has been criss-crossing Canada on his "Elbows Up Resistance Tour," and what he described was nothing short of inspiring. From northern Ontario to Vancouver Island, even deep into so-called "Maple MAGA" country in Alberta, Canadians are fired up. And they’re not just watching what’s happening here in the United States—they’re reacting to it with action, resolve, and massive early turnout at the polls ahead of their own federal election.

Why? Because Canadians know what’s at stake. Because Trump’s reckless behavior—his economic tantrums, his dangerous prison deals with El Salvador, and his wannabe annexation fantasies—aren’t just hurting Americans. They’re threatening Canada’s sovereignty, economy, and democracy.

Maple Meidas Elbows Up tees now available. 100% Canadian-made.

In fact, Prime Minister Mark Carney put it plainly during the recent debate: “The biggest risk we have to this economy is Donald Trump.” When a Canadian Prime Minister names the U.S. president as the biggest national threat, you know we’ve crossed into some truly dystopian territory.

But here’s where it gets even more surreal. Pierre Poilievre, the leader of Canada’s Conservative Party and the poster child for "Maple MAGA," is out here trying to turn plastic bread bags into a rallying cry. It’s Trump’s plastic straw nonsense all over again—but with baguettes. Charlie and I couldn’t help but laugh at how Poilievre is parroting the same playbook of deflection, culture war hysteria, and rule-of-law erosion.

But Charlie wasn’t laughing when we got into the darker parts of the Conservative platform. He laid out in stark terms how Poilievre is openly talking about suspending the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms to target so-called "criminal classes," invoking emergency powers meant to be used only in extreme circumstances. Sound familiar?

If that weren’t enough, former Harper staffers are bragging that Canada doesn’t have the same checks and balances as the U.S.—meaning Trump’s playbook could be deployed faster and more effectively under a Conservative government in Canada.

Let that sink in.

And to Trump himself? Charlie delivered a message that I hope gets played on loop in Mar-a-Lago. He thanked Trump—for uniting Canada. For waking them up. For reminding them that democracy is not something you take for granted, it’s something you fight for. And fight they will.

So to all of you watching—yes, the fight here at home is urgent. But don’t underestimate the global movement standing shoulder to shoulder with us. Canada is holding the line. Elbows up.

And Donald? They're not scared of your tweets. They're ready for your tantrums. They're moving forward—with or without you.
