So many great quotes from Carney's speech - e.g.: "Distance is not the way to solve problems, not the way to serve our people ...." Imagine having a leader who represented our country in such a respectful and dignified manner. Trump is an utter embarrassment, and a resounding failure as a president and a human being.

CONGRESS ISN’T THE PROBLEM!

The GOP majority is! Drumpf only needs them to give incompetent nominees a πŸ‘πŸ», give oversight of his lawlessness a πŸ‘ŽπŸ», & coverup the Eps-teen inquiry. Only a Dem majority Congress exercising its powers will checkmate the King!

I wonder if a Dem controlled house with a new speaker could wrestle back control of tariffs, which is their constitutional authority, and repair some of the damage?

Expand full comment
Harper Thorpe's avatar

Depends on two things: (1) The new speaker we both want, and (2) How SCOTUS rules on the Trump tariffs - oral arguments on November 5!

Anna B's avatar

Please remember that SCOTUS does NOT have the function of MAKING laws for this country - that they have gotten away with seemingly doing just that is the fault of the current non-admin orange regime 'Owning' both houses of Congress. Once the gop no longer has a strangle hold on those bodies, then new legislation can be written And Passed that strengthens the Constitution and circumvents or over-rides decisions which the Roberts (robbers) Court have handed down.

Even if they did, who is stopping him from doing whatever he wants? We need to come to the realization that the coup is complete. he owns the courts, he owns the justice department and he owns too many in the republican party. he may be impeached but he won't be convicted. Americans had a chance to stop this nightmare from happening and the majority voted to have it continue.

Pessimistic as it may sound, defeatist as it may sound, I don't see the damage he has done to our standing in the world ending for decades. Who would trust us? The world watched us go from Pres. Obama to trump, then Pres. Biden to trump. Even if we elected our own "Carney" why would anyone trust us to not elect another "trump" in a steven miller or a j.d vance 4 years later, especially since they see a pattern of us doing just that? trump has damaged us for decades, if not permanently. At almost 67 I don't know if I'll live to see the damage undone.

Universal Healthcare is a good thought but ask yourself, who's going to pay for it. Will the same services and doctors be available? From my understanding, you don't get to chose your doctors. Will the healthcare professionals be paid more or less than they are now? If less, will they chose to leave? There are alot of questions to research.

Expand full comment
WJB Motown's avatar

First of all......Universal healthcare is cheaper in the long run. Everyone pays taxes and funds the system. The people go to get treatment right away and do not wait.

Therefore problems are cured quickly.

When people wait....they end up in the hospital......or die pre-maturly.

Universal healtcare is mindset that does not exist in the Pedphile Party or greedy medical private corporations,

It is based on empathy and caring for others.

There is no such thing as medical debt........losing your home......turned away from vital operations

If TacoTits and his nazi hoard carry out his mission to totally destroy USA,

there is a chance to rebuild from the rubble and create a more livable society.
