The level of gaslighting we’re seeing right now from Governor Greg Abbott is just flat-out insulting. As Donald Trump’s plans keep backfiring and blowing up in MAGA faces, these Republicans are scrambling onto any TV network that will have them and spewing desperate excuses.
Abbott actually went on CNN and claimed that the reason he’s fast-tracking a grotesque gerrymander in Texas is to “help” Black and Hispanic voters. Really? You’re destroying competitive districts so that you can gift Donald Trump five extra seats, and you expect us to believe it’s about civil rights? Just say what it is: you hate democracy and you’re trying to rig the rules before voters kick you out. At least be honest about it.
Even worse, when pressed, Abbott openly admitted that he’s fine starting a gerrymandering arms race. He literally threatened that if California or New York try to protect their voters, Texas will eliminate ten Democratic districts in retaliation. They’re not even pretending to care about democracy.
And right on cue, the Fox propaganda machine turned a serious threat to democracy into a joke. Jesse Watters talked about “peacefully invading Canada” so they can add six new Republican senators. They mock the public while actively working to destroy your voting power.

That’s why I brought in John Bisognano, President of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee. John’s on the front lines fighting back, and he made it clear: none of this has to happen. Abbott doesn’t need to redraw the maps. Trump wants him to, because Trump thinks he’s entitled to five extra seats. They’re terrified of losing power, so they’re trying to cheat.
John also reminded us of something we all need to hear right now: we still have power. People in Texas have been showing up at hearings in massive numbers to oppose this. And across the country, we can raise hell to stop this takeover before it spreads.
Trump, Abbott, Paxton — they want you to feel powerless. Don’t. Stand up, speak out, and fight back while it still matters.
