I'm all for the rehabilitation of Alcatraz provided that its occupants will be Trump and all of his fellow traitors!

I would love to see trump and ALL his cronies dropped off at Alcatraz. Left alone with a crate of rations dropped off by a helicopter now and then. Put up a camera to watch the Lord of the Flies play out.

Sylvia Sewell's avatar

No to rations dropped off. Let him dig for the clams with his fat hands.

Yes I love that idea only because I have gone clam digging before

Jean Conley's avatar

Hey--won't it affect his bone spurs in some way??????? Even if it does, I'd say make him go clam digging anyway--and make him cook them himself for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Oh--make that dessert, too!

Clapping hands!!!!!! (You know, like he does when he's making a speech, except it's more like his two hands waving at each other...????)

Ground War in Iran Would Be Hell. The sheer size of the ground force will be staggering. Any serious American invasion of Iran would likely rival or exceed the scale of Vietnam or the 1991 Gulf War. Iran’s terrain is, in a word, punishing. Its topography is dominated by mountains, which by some figures constitute half of its territory. Unlike most nations, Iran’s urban centers are located inland, nestled amid mountains, and buffeted by uninhabitable deserts to the east and the south. Then comes the next obvious problem: fighting the war. Iran’s more ideologically committed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps numbered around 190,000, backed by a militia force, known as the Basij, of more than 600,000. Supporting this strategy would be Iran’s still-significant arsenal of rockets and drones. US forces would likely find themselves fighting a determined asymmetric opponent armed with effective weapons and operating on difficult terrain. An American escalation into a conventional ground invasion would deepen the already daunting regional crisis. The presence of American forces on Iranian soil would provide Moscow and Beijing with a tempting pressure point against a superpower that is already overextended, indebted, and domestically fractured. Iran, then, could become a bloody site of great-power competition. Cato Institute; 10-Mar-26; https://tinyurl.com/4hdut44u

"[USN Captain John S.] McCain realized that the Code of Conduct gave him no choice. [Everett] Alvarez, held elsewhere, was supposed to be the first man released [from POW status in Vietnam]. "I just knew it wasn't the right thing to do," he said. "I knew that they wouldn't have offered it to me if I hadn't been the son of an admiral." I just didn't think it was the honorable thing to do."...Prisoners must be released in the order they were captured, starting with Alvarez." This Week; 18-Jul-15; https://tinyurl.com/2uajdw39

Sacrifice is Necessary

Defeating the fascists in WWII did not happen without sacrifice from the citizens of the Allied countries. We will have to sacrifice to stop and reverse the fascist takeover of our country. We can sacrifice a little now or a much greater amount later.

Too many in The Resistance and the general public, seem to think that there are still rules and guardrails. That the system will work. That all we have to do is vote in large numbers in the midterm election. Too many looking for an easy fix that will not inconvenience them.

We are in a street fight with the forces of fascism. There are no rules, no guardrails. There is only what His Royal Heinous decrees, and he controls all the levers of power. The system is not working.

How much do you want to stop His Royal Heinous and the fascist takeover of the country?

Enough that you’re willing to make a small sacrifice? Like altering your spending habits for a month or two or three? That could be all it would take to get the attention of the oligarchs (formerly known as The Robber Barons in the first Gilded Age, also The Fat Cats, The Greedy Bastards).

A brief demonstration of We, the People’s, power of the purse could persuade them to quit supporting HRH and the politicians who enable him.

We quit spending, except on essentials, businesses lose money, stock market goes down, Greedy Bastards pay attention to our demands.

Greedy Bastards own most of the politicians of both major parties. GBs start losing money, then they tell the politicians to change course and do what We, the People want.

Spending Strike, Spending Freeze, Spending Suspension, Spending Pause, Economic Disengagement, Economic Warfare, Stop Spending!, even Boycott. Choose your favorite but Do It, and Spread the Word!

From Mark Mansour:

Sacrifice has always been the price of renewal. Democracy, if it is to survive, cannot be the cheap luxury item of a populace too comfortable to fight for it. The Trump regime can be resisted through civic courage, legal challenge, and organization. But it can also be starved—one deliberate, withheld dollar at a time.

BEAUTIFUL COMMENT. THANK YOU. I AM SOOOOOOO F'ING TIRED OF POLITICIANS, VOTERS WHO DON'T DEMAND THAT POLITICIANS LISTEN TO 'WE THE PEOPLE, AND HOW TAX$ IS SPENT WITHOUT OUR CONSENT OR INVOLVEMENT IN THE DECISION PROCESS.....

according to a NEWSWEEK report…..While voters’ views of Democratic and Republican parties remain largely unenthusiastic, liberal and progressive candidates MAY benefit at the polls on November 3 thanks to support from so-called “double haters”—Americans who aren’t impressed with either faction, according to CNN’s poll released Friday.

Roughly one-quarter of Americans hold a shoddy outlook on both parties, but voters among that group prefer the Democrats in the upcoming midterms by 31 points, the survey revealed.

POLLS are ALWAYS misleading….and will these youngsters even bother to vote???

Of course everyone wants to be hopeful, BUT…..as I keep saying, without any REAL STRATEGY from the DEMS, how will the Democrats of 2026 and 2028 be ANY DIFFERENT from the Democrats of 2016, 2020, 2024???

i fully understand that the younger people want things to change...anyone can see that they don't 'do' cable tv bundles of policies and promises from the dysfunctional 2 party system, they pick and choose what they like and believe in app by app... EVEN THE STARBUCKS GENERATION WANTS TO PICK AND CHOOSE AND NOT ACCEPT 'NORMAL 1 SIZE-FITS-ALL'......

so, to me, the fault lies with the politicians, and their desire to keep the voters out of the decision making process, and particularly how the politicians choose to spend 'our' taxpayer $..... THINK REFERENDUMS, A COMPLETE AND RADICAL CHANGE OF THE TAX SYSTEM AND CLOSE ALL TAX LOOPHOLES FOR THE 1% Seriously, the ‘same old-same old’ democratic 'gifting to the people in order to BUY their votes' will just ensure we'll get another trump in the future.....

dem politicians just want to ‘wait for the midterms’, and the centrist political class of dem voters think that is a good idea…..

none of the DEMS are considering the fact that young and independent voters will get pissed off, once again, by the dem politicians inability to ‘read the room’…and of course none of these dems believe that the putin-style-dictator trump and his putin-style-rubber-stamp-congress will actually pull off a putin-style-election-rigging…

other than dems gaining ‘revenge votes’ from independents and minorities, they are doing FA to make themselves relevant to this day and age. THEY DO NOT DESERVE ANY DONATIONS….so we all will WAIT and SEE if the dems are actually going to change or not. 95% of dem politicians are a useless bunch of ‘trump-fearing-weaklings’.

THE MORE PEOPLE EMAIL/WRITE TO DEM POLITICIANS AND TELL THEM TO GET OFF THEIR FAT ASSES, THE BETTER….OTHERWISE WE JUST GET WHAT WE VOTE FOR….(and please don’t bother responding that you think the dem party is doing a good job at anything….because YOU are then PART OF THE PROBLEM).

Maybe this is a naive question but does trump really understand that blowing up bridges and power plants is a war crime? None of the “reporters” ever ask him that question. Those things have already happened. I honestly don't see a way out of this mess. One stupid, narcissistic, demented pedophile did all this. And congress is silent

Pat Robinson's avatar

I don't think it was one demented pedophile, but rather it's the entire GOP Congress. Every day they have had the power to stop it and they choose not to. I'm not sure how it works but I think if they wanted to the GOP could get rid of Johnson as speaker and get someone who did not bow down to trump, but they love him and join in in the bowing down.

Barbara L's avatar

I agree with you. Congress has the ability to stop this but they say nothing or do nothing. They are just as guilty as DJT and Netanyahu

ramonaj's avatar

Seriously. Congress needs to step up. It is a complete Republican run government. Got all the power. And they can't do anything. Big mouths. No results.

I think your overarching point is on the money: "Every day they have had the power to stop it and they choose not to." Every day they choose not to do so.

Pat Robinson's avatar

Thanks for the info about removing the chair. So what this means is that the entire GOP House supports massive vacations/no work days, never actually proposing any legislation that helps their constituents, and calling it work when they just way Aye to anything trump tells them to approve. For a bunch of cowards with no ethics, that's a pretty good way to make a very good living.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

That sums up things very nicely, thank you.

Linda Harris's avatar

He is not alone in this. His entire regime is involved. The 25th is not good enough. They need to invoke Article 2 Section 4, treason, fraud and high crimes and misdemeanors. That could take down all of them including the unsupreme court.

I was gonna add that Linda. I saw you had already said it.

White House Seeks $1.5 Trillion for Defense in New Budget Request; NYT 3-Apr-26; The huge proposed increase would be partly offset by steep cuts to domestic programs, some of which the Trump administration describes as wasteful. https://removepaywalls.com/https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/03/us/politics/white-house-defense-budget.html#google_vignette

The request, which arrived as part of President Trump’s new budget, would amount to a roughly 40 percent increase from what the United States spent on the Pentagon this fiscal year. The administration coupled the proposal with a call for $73 billion in cuts spread across many domestic agencies, including the elimination of key federal health, housing and education programs, some of which serve minority groups and the poor. Some of the most severe cuts would reduce or eliminate funding that benefits minority groups and their communities [and] scrap money designed to reduce racial disparities in health and those supporting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Other funds targeted by Mr. Trump extend critical assistance to the poor, including federal aid that helps Americans afford their heating and cooling bills, which the president seeks to eliminate. “The 2027 budget builds on the president’s vision by continuing to constrain nondefense spending and reform the federal government,” Russell T. Vought, the White House budget director, said in a letter preceding the proposal.

As with Project 2025, the truth about MAGA (“America First”) though visible, front and center was overlooked or ignored or – worse – embraced:

Over the past century, “America First” has acquired some very unsavory connotations. Although the seemingly innocent slogan goes back deep in American history, it began to develop a racist, anti-Semitic, and xenophobic tone after World War I. The Ku Klux Klan, which surged to some five million members at that time, employed it frequently for its terrorist mobilizations. Like the Klan, nativist groups took up “America First” as they used racist, eugenicist claims to press, successfully, for U.S. government restrictions on immigration. The 25th Amendment assumed ethical and responsible people in the Cabinet. We don't have that because the Republicans let Trump have whomever he wished.

Impeachment worked, but conviction by the Senate (twice!) didn't work because Senate Republicans were afraid to lose Trump's base.

We will need to work out a system that does not allow evasion on either of these two remedies. I do not know what that will be, but we need to start the discussions.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Removal under Article II (initiated by Congress; Legislative action) and Amendment 25 (initiated by the VP and 50% + 1 of the Cabinet, followed by Congressional action; Executive, then Legislative action) should have provided a belt and suspenders level of safety. Either "political" branch of government can initiate ouster proceedings. In theory, the SCOTUS is apolitical, so it has no such power. The Founders did not establish a direct removal by recall process, likely because they relied on Congress to act honorably under Article II. They worried about Executive tyrants but failed to consider concurrent failures by majorities in the House and Senate and by the Supreme Court. The 25th Amendment did not become law until 1967, when it crossed the ratification threshold, relies unjustifiably, it seems, on a VP and Cabinet who are adults, not circus clowns.
