In the chaos of Donald Trump's political world, it’s often hard to tell where the lies end and the damage begins. But this much is clear: Trump is losing control—of the MAGA base, of the Republican conference, and of the Epstein narrative. And here’s the kicker: it’s all of his own making.

I’ve seen this movie before. Back in 2017, I sat across from Trump in the White House and told him point blank to shut down the Russia investigation with transparency, not with tantrums. Release the facts. Let people see the truth. Because hiding behind half-truths and Fox News soundbites only stokes the fire. And just like then, he ignored the advice—and worse, ignored the beast. Now here we are again; only this time, it’s not Mueller on his heels, it’s the ghost of Jeffrey Epstein—and his base.

Now, let’s be real: Trump’s team is scrambling. The Epstein situation has metastasized into a full-blown political cancer, spreading through the Republican conference and lighting fires they can’t put out. House Republicans are in open revolt. Speaker Mike Johnson, who until now never so much as sneezed without clearing it with Trump, is being forced into legislative surrender by his own caucus. Members like Chip Roy, Tim Burchett, and even James Comer are now daring to push back—demanding transparency, demanding truth; something rarely tolerated in Trumpworld.

Why the shift? Because the base wants answers. Voters who once cheered Trump’s “drain the swamp” bravado now feel like they’re being played. And they are. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s announcement that no more Epstein documents will be released only made it worse. It was a slap in the face to transparency—and it reeked of a cover-up.

The GOP rank and file can feel it. They’ve been cornered into voting against the release of documents they’ve spent years demanding. And now they’re catching hell back home. Town halls are turning into inquisitions. Social media is ablaze. People want to know: Why is the man who promised to fight for victims now blocking justice?

But here’s the real kicker: Trump knows how bad this looks. That’s why he’s fuming. That’s why he hauled the Rules Committee Republicans into the Oval Office this week for a “thank you” meeting. Give me a break. That wasn’t gratitude; that was damage control. A photo op to paper over the panic. Because Trump doesn’t do empathy. He does optics. And right now, the optics are terrible.

There’s a reason conspiracy theories are growing louder. Trumpworld is pouring gasoline on the fire every time they dodge, deflect, or downplay. You want to kill the speculation? Release the damn files. Fully. Unredacted—except for the names of victims who must be protected. That’s the only way this goes away. Anything less just confirms what people fear: that there’s something—or someone—in those documents worth hiding.

So, let me be blunt. If Trump has no serious, damaging tie to Epstein—no credible allegations, no financial links, no participation in the abuse—then he should be the one demanding the full release. Not the GOP. Not you. Not me. Him. And right now. Today. He should own the transparency, not run from it. But that’s not happening. And when you hide, people assume you’ve got something to hide.

This isn’t just about politics anymore; it’s about trust. The public is tired of games. They're tired of watching elected officials treat their calls for truth like political landmines. And they’re tired of watching Trump bend the system to serve himself while claiming to be its victim.

Even his most loyal sycophants are starting to hedge. Marjorie Taylor Greene—I mean Marjorie Taylor Greene, for God’s sake—said, “People want the information. They don’t want things covered up.” When MTG sounds like the voice of reason, you know you’ve hit rock bottom.

Speaker Johnson’s temporary shutdown of the Rules Committee was an act of desperation, not strategy. It bought time, not trust. And once September hits, members like Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie are ready to force the issue on the House floor. So, tick tock. Tick tock.

Behind the scenes, Republicans are starting to admit what the rest of us already know: This isn’t going away. In fact, it’s getting worse. The Wall Street Journal report that the DOJ informed Trump his name appears in Epstein-related documents has turned this from a political headache into a full-blown cluster migraine. And once that cat’s out of the bag, there’s no stuffing it back in.

So here’s the message I’d deliver, if he’d take my call: You want this to end? Release the files. All of them. Don’t hide behind red tape, don’t blame the Democrats, don’t let Pam Bondi play the fall gal. Show the truth. Or the consequences will find you.

I say this because I’ve lived through this before. I carried water for this man. I know the game. And I paid the price. But the American people shouldn’t have to.

So, release the files. Let the chips fall where they may.

That’s how you shut this down. Not with silence. Not with spin. But with the truth.
