Back in the 80s, DoD models always assumed that our smarter systems could take out a large number of cheaper Soviet systems. It's how they justified the price tags. It made no sense to me then and it's come back to bite us. Congress is bought by the contractors who are out to make money on the bells and whistles. We have no clue how to build a lot of cheaper systems, which is what we need at the moment.

I suspect the problem is far worse than presented. Plans for building a military drone are all over the Internet, though the definition of "military" may be a little ambitious. The Ukrainians have devised multiple ways to guide a drone without relying on GPS, which the government can "fuzz." Many of those guidance techniques have been enhanced, and you can download most of them from Github. In the U.S., explosives are hard to obtain without being identified, but easy to make. On the dark web, a recipe turns a very low-cost consumer drone into a firebomb by shorting the lithium battery. What happens when almost anyone can launch a lethal drone?
Maybe then someone can take out the dictator and the fascist communist Cabal of Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation and we can return to democracy.
