But as Anat said, we can’t just play defense in their frame. We have to exit the frame entirely and name the threat for what it is: a regime of bullies for billionaires. This isn’t a government—it’s a hostile takeover. And it’s time we call it that.

I consider it my patriotic duty to do NOTHING to stimulate the economy. I just weeded my backyard without calling a gardener. I am not buying anything from Amazon, Whole Foods, Target, Walmart. I'm shopping locally and still supporting my local peeps (Pilates studio, body worker, etc.). No longer doing any business with MAGA owned businesses....adios hair colorist and my former Labrador Retreiver breeder. Eating home more too! I'm in the top 2% and would rather live like a monk than see my democratic country taken over by fascists! Join me in this fight!
Agreed. My biggest expenditure has always been on Amazon. I was spending over $1.5k/month for years but, as of February, that has come to a screeching halt. I would rather go without than give any of my money to the Oligarchs or any corporation that supports Trump.
Wish I could. At 82 and disabled, living in a rural area with no small owner stores within miles, and transportation difficulties, sometimes people have little to no choice.

We can only do our best. I live in a rural area as well. The nearest stores, a 7-11 and post office are 16 miles away and larger stores are 19-20 miles. I'm totally off Amazon now, but the change has not been easy. So yeah, do what you can and don't feel guilty.

I could deduct the portion related to my office and rental property so will not be saving on taxes. I'm a fiscally prudent CPA, but not a conservative since I believe in equality for all American citizens regardless of their race, religion or LGBTQ biology. Interesting conversation, but I wish it would have addressed the legislation passed during the Biden administration for which the Democrats got no credit. The infrastructure bill and the Inflation Reduction Act brought real money and jobs into communities. To get those bills passed were FIGHTS, and she said people need to see Dems fighting. Evidently, victories in governing did no good. What kind of fighting is this woman talking about? Good marketing? Social media memes? God effin help us. What government actually does, the WAY it makes lives better is through legislation. In certain counties, the Inflation Reduction Act brought manufacturing jobs to red counties. The people there got good jobs with good benefits and wages BECAUSE of the Biden administration, and they STILL voted for Trump, the man who accomplished nothing legislatively during his first term but cut taxes, and mostly for the wealthy. It would have been nice if this discussion tackled this perplexing situation. Also, remember that Biden ramped up antitrust litigation (thanks to the brilliant Lina Kahn). If you look at history, the last time the country was run by robber barons, antitrust suits ushered in the progressive era (the Teddy Roosevelt days). The Biden administration was WORKING ON IT. And Biden increased subsidies for the ACA, which lowered health care costs for working people. I know, because my costs got lower. Shouldn't that be absolutely the best kind of message? Lower costs, a concrete accomplishment that puts money in people's pockets? Whatever happened to the old adage "actions speak louder than words." Does it no longer apply? Any discussion that doesn't acknowledge that a lot of Trump voters, and all the non-voters, were acting against their own interests--and how this might be changed--isn't worth much, if you ask me. I would also say that Trump is far beyond just a symptom of a broken system. Sure, any Republican (and even most Dems) would probably not do much to fix the inequalities of late-stage capitalism, but they would not shred the Constitution.
Seriously, this is along the lines of the right answer, not the continuation of the poisonous word games proposed in the video. Biden did some good things, restarting actual antitrust action is one of them, and Trump could go overboard pro-corporate and should be restrained in that way. It's possible for Democrats to make a positive contribution over this 4 years if they follow advice like this!
But if you continue the rhetorical tricks, nobody on the right will listen to the other stuff. You've lost vast amounts of trust, your games have been figured out. If you stop it with the games, you might help steer the ship. Otherwise you'll just break apart the country, and the Republicans are willing for that to happen.

Appreciate the mention of the power of music in protest messaging. I came of age in the 1960's, a time of powerful political change and almost daily scenes of protest on the streets. Music played a huge role in this! Our protest songs often became Top Ten Hits, broadcast on our radios 24/7. The words of many still resonate today, as we face the same challenges of racism, sexism, support for workers, and (once again) Americans' involvements in potential wars. Where are our current protest-song writers and singers? We need them, and when we find them, we must share their works with one another.
I remember those days (makes me feel old--but not too old to fight to keep our democracy! Remember Woodstock? I lived on Long Island (grew up there) but didn't go. I know it was quite an event--I actually didn't know it was happening. My family was going to a reunion near Rochester and we passed though the area whee it was held. I'm embarrassed to say we didn't know what was going on! Wasn't it also a protest about the Vietnam War?
Yes that time was different. We really had no reason to be in the Vietnam War, and LBJ had lied us into it. And sending young men over there, to risk being maimed or killed, or forced to kill "enemies" they had no reason to hate. Then the hippies latched onto the legitimate antiwar movement with their nonsense.
Now Trump is trying to get us OUT of wars that the Democrats (again, the Democrats) put us into.

As an educator, I agree that the message(s) must deliver in a basic way. Use 4th grade language and charts. That's a "part" of "his" appeal to a large part of his constituents.

Talk to the 25 to 33 year olds who didn't vote. As Ben says listen to people who are confused try to bring them out of their shell. Try to teach a little history so it doesn't repeat itself which it has for thousands of years. If people want to burn it down teach them about Henry David Thoreau on Walden Pond and Martin Luther King's approach. Fox News has been blasting out lies for so long it's going to take us a little bit of time to undo that.

I needed this! I agree with acting locally. My family and friends are starting a weekly ZOOM meeting called " Cup of Courage" to support each other. We are supporting local food banks, funding ACLU, boycotting big-box tRump supporters, supporting independent news sources ( I keep spreading the word on MTN news, Democracy Docket, Talking Feds, Legal AF)!), shopping only when necessary, staying informed, donating to candidates who support democracy, and sharing information. I will admit I was afraid to openly support my values and party. Mainly because of retaliation. My sister in law had my nephew over our house and he was wearing a maga hat, he is 9 years old, he had no clue what it represents. I finally asked her why she has him wear it, she said because I want to make America great again. I told her it is unpatriotic to think we are not great already, we have things that are not perfect and we need to work on issues, but we have always been a great country! You have to stop acting like this is a normal presidency that will just time out in four years. We’re not even at Day 90, and look at the chaos. Look at the disappearances. Look at the erosion of the judiciary, the press, and our rights.
If you do not stop this, we will not make it 1,460 days.
So here’s what I need from you — right now:
1. Form an independent, civilian-powered investigative coalition.
I’m talking experts. Veterans. Whistleblowers. Journalists. Watchdog orgs.
Deputize the resistance. Build a real-time archive of corruption, overreach, and executive abuse.
Make it public. Make it unshakable.
Let the people drag the rot into the light.
If you can’t hold formal hearings, hold public ones.
If Congress won’t act, let the country act.
This isn’t about optics — it’s about receipts.
Because at some point, these people will be held accountable.
And when that day comes, we’ll need every name, every signature, every illegal order, every act of silence—documented.
You’re not just preserving truth — you’re preparing evidence for prosecution.
The more they vanish people and weaponize data, the more we need truth in the sunlight.
2. Join the International Criminal Court.
Yes, I said it. Call their bluff.
You cannot control what the other side does.
But you can control your own integrity.
So prove it. Prove that your party is still grounded in law, human rights, and ethical leadership.
Join.
If you’ve got nothing to hide — join.
Show the world who’s hiding bodies, bribes, and buried bank accounts.
Force the GOP to explain why they’d rather protect a war criminal than sign a treaty.
And while you’re at it, publicly invite ICC observers into U.S. borders.
Make this administration explain — on camera — why they’re terrified of international oversight.
3. Fund state-level resistance infrastructure.
Don’t just send postcards. Send resources.
Channel DNC funds into rapid-response teams, legal defense coalitions, sanctuary networks, and digital security training.
If the federal government is hijacked, build power underneath it.
If the laws become tools of oppression, help people resist them legally, locally, and boldly.
This is not campaign season — this is an authoritarian purge.
Stop campaigning.
Act like this is the end of democracy, because it is.
We WILL REMEMBER the warriors come primaries.
Fighting this regime should be your marketing strategy.
And let’s be clear:
The reason the other side always seems three steps ahead is because they ARE.
They prepared for this.
They infiltrated school boards, courts, local legislatures, and police unions.
They built a machine while you wrote press releases.
We’re reacting — they’ve been executing a plan for years.
It’s time to shift from panic to blueprint.
You should already be working with strategists and military minds on PROJECT 2029 —
a coordinated, long-term plan to rebuild this country when the smoke clears.
You should be publicly laying out:
• The laws and amendments you’ll pass to ensure this never happens again
• The systems you’ll tear down and the safeguards you’ll enshrine
• The plan to hold perpetrators of human atrocities accountable
• The urgent commitment to immediately bring home those sold into slavery in El Salvador
You say you’re the party of the people?
Then show the people the plan.
4. Use your platform to educate the public on rights and resistance tactics.
If they’re going to strip us of rights and lie about it — arm the people with truth.
Text campaigns. Mass trainings. Downloadable “Know Your Rights” kits. Multilingual legal guides. Encrypted phone trees.
Give people tools, not soundbites.
We don’t need more slogans.
We need survival manuals.
5. Leverage international media and watchdogs.
Stop hoping U.S. cable news will wake up.
They’re too busy playing both sides of fascism.
Feed the real stories to BBC, Al Jazeera, The Guardian, Reuters, Der Spiegel — hell, leak them to anonymous dropboxes if you have to.
Make what’s happening in America a global scandal.
And stop relying on platforms that are actively suppressing truth.
Start leveraging Substack. Use Bluesky.
That’s where the resistance is migrating. That’s where censorship hasn’t caught up.
If the mainstream won’t carry the truth — outflank them.
Get creative. Go underground. Go global.
If our democracy is being dismantled in broad daylight, make sure the whole world sees it — and make sure we’re still able to say it.
6. Create a digital safe haven for whistleblowers and defectors.
Not everyone inside this regime is loyal.
Some are scared. Some want out.
Build the channels.
Encrypted. Anonymous. Protected.
Make it easy for the cracks in the system to become gaping holes.
And while you’re at it?
Stop ostracizing MAGA defectors.
Everyone makes mistakes — even glaring, critical ones.
We are not the bullies.

We contrarians in a red area of Ohio used social media to promote gathering today (Sunday) for an anti-Trump-Musk rally. At least 200 people showed up with homemade signs and Ukranian flags, etc. It was a great message to motorists through the center of town that they are not alone. Lots of horn honking and thumbs up. They outnumbered the rude Trumpers.

Today was "83,000 Vets Fired" to focus upon older drivers and to make the numbers real. I'm always looking for trigger words like "Betrayal" or "Traitor Trump" using large short 3 word phrases, easy to grasp at 45 MPH. Pro active phrases. We're in a Five Colleges area, so the response is usually positive.
My issue is "how do we go to the next level and get drivers out of their cars and into the streets." Suggestions?
I observe new things everyday. There are FAR FAR fewer vocal Maggot drivers than before the election. The support really is out there, but how to turn a thumbs up or honking horn into action.

Love this discussion! Locally people are active who have never done political action. I joined a group to get more effective. We have committees to target topics and split our attention between state/local and federal issues. I enjoy disruptive action so that became a committee. I made stickers that say PRICES UP $$ THANKS 2 TRUMP and passing them out to lots of folks. We are putting them on egg cartons and other items affected by tariffs. We are pushing lots of folks to submit FISA requests to DOGE about the use of our data. I made 200+ copies of Common Causes Pink Slips asking for firing of Musk to Ohio senators and reps. I hand them out at protests! We are open to any ideas to get people engaged.

Excellent and hopeful conversation. Getting over half of the population to resist is a huge task, but 4 percent? Not so much! Also important understanding of those who didn't vote, and why Schumer and Co are wrong, along with most of the old guard. We need to fight like hell and not give an inch. Finally, her suggestions are those I and others have talked about, to which I'd add one: not simply being visible but also having others see you as a safe place for marginalized people, those who agree with you, and even for those who, on the other side, are willing to engage the issues (not simply "gotchas").
