The Ambassador to Canada is rude and obnoxious and blames us for the tariff mess as we started it! He fails to realize that we are insulted that Trump thinks we should be the 51st state!

Back around 2008, Trump's real estate business was not doing well because the real estate market in general had taken a severe hit. Some of the Russian oligarchs bailed out Trump by buying properties that he owned, sometimes at a premium, in order to make ground-floor investments for themselves and to keep Trump from going under. One only needs to look at economic stats for that era (2007-2008) to see that many Americans were struggling. Yet Trump rebounded, thanks to the Russian oligarchs. They have been extracting a price for their rescue of Trump ever since.

Love the sentiment and I share it, but look at it from objectively:

Alaska is geographically isolated from the lower 48. It’s not easily accessed therefore not easy to defend unless you’re “allowed” to.

Putin would happily send his military across to “help” to secure whatever “peace” Trump decided was necessary, especially to protect his newly gained mineral rights.

All he has to do is get his foot in the door and he’ll kick it open and take what he wants. He’s IN Alaska today. His foot is in the door. Trump is welcoming him in.

He no longer gives AF about maga support. He specifically told them so during the campaign, and he’s repeatedly demonstrated it by controlling the voting machines/rigging the election(s)/ and his dumbass tariffs.

Why rely on “supporters” when you control the votes?

Expand full comment
Grant Rowson's avatar

I was doing a high-level short hand when I made my comment. The more detailed answer:

- The Christian Nationalist arm of MAGA believes that "God wants all of North America to be in control of Americans" (the old "Manifest Destiny" crap -- and the chief reason Canada exists as a sea-to-sea country was to prevent such an expansion west of the Great Lakes). If he were to give Alaska back to the Ruskies, then the religious cult might very well "Storm the Barricades" like Jan 6. But this time they would be doing it with both guns, stupidity, AND RELIGIOUS ZEAL (and this last part is a lot harder to stop).

- The Bannonites portion of MAGA want Alaska (and Canada, and Greenland, and Panama Canal Zone) for a similar reason -- but this time to control Arctic Ocean and Panama from the Chinese (who are encroaching on both). The only reason they don't want Mexico and rest of Central American in this is that then they inherit "those problems" (especially the immigration bit -- pretty hard to deport a now-US Citizen). But giving up Alaska here would pretty much mean abandoning the Arctic Ocean.

So I guess it depends -- does Putin have THAT much control to pull this off while EVERY American now wants Rump''s head (not just the democrats)? Where's he going to get his Secret Service/ICE/military, if all/most of the usual culprits are now out to get him? The only good news here if he has the criminals as henchmen, sooner or later the world gets him -- he would lose congress, senate, (and who cares about SCOTUS in this case), the access to the public purse . . . . there's just no good that comes out of this for him. Even Putin knows that he has to do SOMETHING to keep the Russian citizens reasonably happy (or they would revolt against him). Trump will need a Dacha on the Caspian Sea or wherever the Russian resort area is. ;-)

Expand full comment

Forgot to mention that you do make good points about Putin annexing Alaska back and getting access to the resources, though. I just figured he would "buy them" at discounted prices (easier than all the crap I mentioned as side-effectts)

Ivana wasn't KGB -- but her dad was coopted by them, to provide information on western business people (Trump was targetted). Former CIA analyst Michael Sellers here on Substack did a fairly thorough analysis of known and unknown information about this in a multi-part series of articles. The attempt to recruit him started in 1987 (if I remember correctly), when he was invited to Moscow to meet with "Russian Business people" to explore some joint ventures. These business people were KGB recruiters. And echoing what Old Uncle Dave pointed out here, they weren't trying to recruit him as an agent or even a direct information source -- rather, somebody who might "influence" American business, share some bits of gossipy evidence that they might exploit, etc., etc. Anyway, all of this revealled by former KGB management heads this past February or so, Details are in Seller's articles.

If he’s doing it deliberately, that would not be a surprise if he were a Russian agent, but it may be unwittingly as he seems to be suffering from some form of senile dementia. Maybe they’ll talk more about our talking points to friends and family, maybeeee they’ll vote differently. I think we can cause ripples to push news organizations to be more honest and maybe even a bit accusatory about what’s happening. As a collective, our volume matters. "Star" is a loose term, he isn't even a skilled performer, he isn't effective even in the most highly staged & edited presentations. It's really weird that there are no legit credentials required for these positions of leadership. Yes, anyone can grow up to be POTUS, but we need standards of education, sound judgment, & ethnics, not ruining businesses, destroying people, & excelling only in criminal pathology.

Inside the 7 hour Trump/Putin summit in Alaska was another 90-minute private meeting between the two leaders, attended only by their interpreters (3:49pm - 5:13pm EDT). This would be like calling a cabinet meeting, where two members excuse themselves to talk in the closet.

This inner meeting, excluded not just Ukraine but also critical U.S. officials who should have been present.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who should have remained in Washington to manage the escalating ICE deployments and respond to Schumer’s legal threats over the Epstein files, was instead waiting outside the door in Alaska.

Vice President J.D. Vance, who would normally assume command responsibilities in Rubio’s absence, was also missing from D.C., reportedly traveling.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was present at the summit but not included in the core negotiation, despite that the military implications of the 90 minute meeting fall under his department.

The absence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy from a summit supposedly aimed at ending the Ukraine war rendered the peace talks as not being peace talks between two waring parties. Its like trying to clap with one hand.

The meeting’s structure and secrecy suggest it was less about diplomacy and more about contingency planning, with Trump potentially negotiating personal terms with Putin.

If this was about Putin giving Trump sanctuary after the release of the Epstein files, Putin wouldn't offer it for free.

Putin cannot stand Trump. He does not have the patience to sit through Trump's endless rambling without ever getting to a point. He has less tolerance to listen to his Alzheimer delusions. And, quite frankly, Putin cannot stand the smell of Trump's diaper.

So, Trump will likely have to pay Putin to get protection. Putin already knows Trump has no money because of all the times Trump came asking for more. So, the only thing Trump can pay with is intelligence. Not his - but ours.

Intelligence such as all of the NATO and NORAD vulnerabilities. Schedules of troop deployment and rotations. Locations and identities of CIA operatives. Global cybersecurity infrastructure. Stuff Putin can use to expand his conquest of the world.

Did Putin say "yes" and give Trump an intelligence dossier shopping list? Was this part of planning out logistics for Trump's escape plan?

If Trump was willing to compromise America this way, he probably would hold something back to keep him alive and valuable to Putin - like passwords.

But, Putin knows those could easily be changed or revoked.

Trump is the kind of clown that never changes his own passwords for personal stuff, because he won't remember any of them. Therefore, he thinks all the other ones won't change either.

Putin will take Trump in as long as he is useful. After that, he will dispose of him - either at a goulag or worse. He's done it before with his other "friends".

Was Rubio there to take Putin's shopping list and assemble everything? It would take weeks, likely a month.

Outside of Trump and Vance, Rubio is the only other person who has access to all the intelligence reporting, wherever it is stored. He can request it without arousing any suspicion.

The only way to stop this IF IT HAPPENS, is to substitute the real files with fake ones, so that Trump hands over irrelevant or misleading information unknowingly that damages Putin's ability to wage war.

Everything Putin needed to say was said in the limo. Alone. With no witnesses. No wonder he was grinning so widely. He knows he has that pig exactly where he wants him.
