How much do you want to stop His Royal Heinous and the fascist takeover of the country?
Enough that you’re willing to make a small sacrifice? Like altering your spending habits for a month or two or three? That could be all it would take to get the attention of the oligarchs (formerly known as The Robber Barons in the first Gilded Age, also The Fat Cats, The Greedy Bastards).
A brief demonstration of We, the People’s, power of the purse could persuade them to quit supporting HRH and the politicians who enable him.
We quit spending, except on essentials, businesses lose money, stock market goes down, Greedy Bastards pay attention to our demands.
Greedy Bastards own most of the politicians of both major parties. GBs start losing money, tell politicians to change course and do what We, the People want.
We are running out of peaceful options. The legislature and Supreme Court are controlled by HRH. He controls the executive branch, including the Military, Justice Department, FBI, ICE, the IRS. He controls all levers of power.
We, the people, still have the power of the purse. No one can control our spending, or lack of spending. When all else fails we can go on a spending strike until the business community stops supporting HRH and the politicians who enable him.
Economic warfare is the only thing the oligarchs, the business community will understand and act on. Call it a Surreptitious General Strike (Quiet Quitting). Go to work, do as little as possible. Stop spending money except on essentials. Quit feeding the corporate beast that supports the HRH.
Stop participating. Nearly 70% of the U.S. economy is driven by consumer spending. All of us. Hobble the economy and the stock market. Mahatma Gandhi drove the British from India by peaceful civil disobedience and economic disruption. We can stop the fascist takeover in the same way.
We can keep rehashing past and present atrocities until our access to the internet is taken away by the regime, or we can DO something!
Please: Resist. Stop cooperating. Stop spending. Stop the fascist takeover.
Thank you for restacking, and sharing, to help Spread the Word!
We do indeed have the purse power, but as the economy tanks thanks to the grotesque mismanagement of the regime along with the insatiable greed of the 1%ers, more and more people will have a tough enough time to buy essentials, let alone shopping to support the blue businesses. As you point out, NOW is the time to act. Locally it appears We the People are speaking via electing progressives who actually care about the country. Let us hope we are in time to save the state.
Can we please stop calling Democracy with Social Safety Net Programs “socialism” …? Because the right wing-nut lying fascists are calling it the unhinged trigger word - communism.
Can we please teach people as a universal exercise within the framework of our upcoming midterm elections (very likely Lady Liberty’s last chance in America for many decades) that what is truly sought is a liberal market economy with private enterprise, private property, high concentrations of private wealth and an economic freedom ranking competitive with other first world nations? This, because socialism means collective or state ownership of the means of production — an actual thing our current fascist POTUS is tinkering with, whilst his knee lay on the neck of private industry in the name of stuffing his own pockets. Err, hmm, that’s fascism.
We, the people, alternatively seek a societal structure (akin to Denmark), yes, a welfare state, financed through taxation, inside a legitimate market economy. The part lost in the American debate: it isn't only compassion, it is investment!
Universal healthcare and free education are how countries can secure a healthy, well-educated workforce, precisely the critical elements that businesses run on. A nation where companies don't pay for their employees' health insurance or degrees, but the society already did. It is not charity and it is not socialism; it is a country investing in its own population, its own enterprises, and its own future - and collecting the return for generations.
When the corrupt right spews "socialism" (and communism!) at these policies, don't accept the frame by embracing the word. That's how they have won the last 40 years: they wrote the dictionary, and everyone - including opponents - enable them. Let us call it what it is: ordinary welfare policy within a market economy, and one of the best investments a nation can make.
The hour is very late. We must teach the people, undoing decades of Fox Lies while the unhinged right wing has thieved away the people’s treasure and power. The strength of America (her former strength) being sapped away for 40+ years, all enabled by failed systemic governmental policies and failed lawmaking, has brought us to this moment — the doorstep of the flagrant and fully corrupted fascist oligarchical kakistocracy. She cannot stand strong any longer without the people waking from their gaslit comas of spoiled stupidity and rising up to smack back this almost risen totalitarian government.
Been doing this and more since 2015. I've observed and experienced the contagion of hatred in humans over someone choosing to wear a mask...to threaten physical harm because an old person is wearing a mask...what have they become?
Totally agree and we have been cutting unnecessary spending and boycotting and big business that support the regime (Amazon, Target, Home Depot ect) and directing essential needs to companies who openly defy regime orders like Costco. One thing I don’t get is the HRH abbreviations. I know you are talking about Trump but what does HRH mean?
The way things are going, the government will do this for us. We are barely getting by as it is, unnecessary spending is already on the decline because we can't afford it. The stupid corporations don't get that if WE don't have money, THEY don't have money. They will need to depend on other members of the Epstein class to support them and there is not enough of them to sustain each other.
Years ago, when I was working and living paycheck to paycheck, whenever there was an emergency or an unexpected expense I used a credit card. That is what many people are forced to do now as their savings are now decreasing.
A friend just told me that they had to cash out their retirement fund. I had spent a lot of time convincing them to set up one in the first place. I guess it came in handy; but, at what cost?
I have never forgotten how difficult it was to navigate raising a child and keeping all the bills paid. I understand the worry and stress and can't emphasize the importance of electing people who also understand these issues and want to help mitigate them.
The top 20% of earners account for 63% of consumer spending. Consumer spending accounts for about 70% of the U.S. economy. Those top earners lean Democratic by 53% to 46% Republican. Those Democrats and disaffected Republicans are the ones who need to stop spending in order to stop and reverse the fascist takeover of America.
At some point both the Republicans and the Democrats are going to have to start listening to us the voters. Both parties are just listening to the dark money groups and we are tired of that.
And yet, so many democrats really hate him. I don't get it. If democrats were really interested in helping their constituents, wouldn't they want good and affordable child care; affordable higher education; universal health care? :(
It is a mind boggling situation. My take is that the "Democrats" that you mention have been brainwashed by the right wing corporate spin machine.
Also, the fake Christian Nationalist cult is spreading fast.......usiing Jesus as a mask to cover up continued abuse of the people, immigrants and even children that have no protection now from child rapists and old 50 year old pedophiles that want to marry kids..........
Yes. It seems magas' hatred is contagious. I watched as my entire neighborhood morphed into hateful magas. I've predicted domestic violence against women and rape against women will no longer be a criminal act: rather it will be a 'family problem' for the family to deal with. :(
My hero Jennifer Welch who's podcast is HIPNEWS says it perfectly and simply.........MAGA= ANTI-FAMILY...PRO PEDOPHILIC...DEATH CULT.
.....Hey, I love MTN...but they beat around the bush and never go in for the kill in regards to AIPAC....corporate dems and the total lackof a true oppostion party.........need to go elsewhere for that..........
So I am buying Jens book "Not Today Fascists" before WTF.
Why always democrats are the ones to be blamed ? The guy in the WH trained everyone well and they voted him back. What about Republicans, do republicans hate him too?
Smile a little bit, Geri. Nothing is lost yet, follow Sanders energy.
Why are magas pretending to care about Israel? And why, for goodness sakes, would real Americans support an organization that puts Israel ahead of America?
AND: magas hate "baby killers", right? I mean they want to harm democrats because of it, right? ONLY the USA helps Jewish women in Israel have abortions, by giving so much money to Israel on a daily basis. Why are they supporting the joining of a Jewish state over their evangelical country that they gave their soul away to obtain? :)
As I take my time reading the amazing book, "Regime Change"........some of the fog starts to lift. Satanyahu has been after America to blast Iran for a long time.
Jennifer Welch from IHIP NEWS puts it perfectly.........MAGA= ANTI-FAMILY...PRO-PEDOPHILIC...DEATH CULT......AIPAC celebrates when a progressive that wants to give these programs is defeated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love MTN....but they beat around the bush and never come out to condem AIPAC....the corporate Dems that support Israeal and point out that USA are paying for Israels Universal Healthcare
Add IHIP and a few other true left podcasters to you list.
Mamdani and Michigan are signs that people are starting to....hopefully wake up.
An unsafe food supply and the measles pandemic are what MAGA delivers.
The average MAGA voter and Trumpism supporter are not well read enough to understand Israel, the dominance thru AIPAC over the U S government and only listen to Fox Entertainment News made up scripted version of what is happening in the middle East.
The anti Israel, anti Netanyahu, anti Zionism, it’s all getting confused and that leads to only to one thing, antisemitism. Without appreciation for context and nuance nothing can be achieved.
You can dislike Netanyahu. I do. But how is driving a car into a synagogue entrance in America or stabbing to death two Jewish men in New York, or firebombing a Kosher restaurant in Montreal anything other than anti-semitism? It has nothing to do with Netanyahu.
Israel holds elections in late October. Netanyahu might well lose according to the current polls. But, even with a new Prime Minister and a new government, anti-semitism will persist.
I think its great we need more common sense people to take our democracy back n our services we need big money out of politics… and its time to pay back the American People that work n supply the money… not to go into their pockets I think no cap on ss 15.3 and 14.5% income tax even on money they borrow from banks to complete the sale like on x…
Yes! Thanks for saying this. Hearing Bernie was helpful detox after Simon Rosenberg's Hopium Chronicles Zoom this afternoon. He again used divisive labels extensively.
Ben, can you bring Simon and Bernie on together?
Why: Simon is influential, and I've followed and supported him since 2022, but he is down a rabbit hole of labels and ideologies rather than realities and results -- such as what Mamdani has already done to improve people's lives, and how candidates who are "fighters not folders" get people fired up to vote!
This is all about strategies to defeat MAGA, with job one being to generate a Blue Tsunami and make November's election results TOO BIG TO RIG.
To help get there I made this toolkit with actions any of us can take to Get Out The Vote:
I'm also disenchanted with Simon Rosenberg. He was recently bolding CENTRIST Democrats as those who Americans trust over the GOP. He devotes very little, if any, time to how AIPAC and other corporate PACs are trying to buy our elections. I get that the “Dems suck” attitude is often not productive but I believe there's value in pointing out what needs to change in the party, if it's common sensical and realistic. Simon doesn't touch that. I don't even know where I stand on the Democratic continuim anymore, as things are changing fast. I just want people to have healthcare, food, affordable childcare and constitutional and human rights. I don't care what they label themselves as.
I appreciate your note, MDL. Supportive, given that I've been trying to figure out how to push Simon to shift his thinking and rhetoric.
I'm also reflecting on this irony, or kind of "full-circle moment": I first learned about Simon Rosenberg a week before the 2022 midterms when I came across a Meidas Touch interview with him by Ben. In the succeeding months I said that Simon cured me of a bad case of RWF -- Red Wave Fatalism. But for me at this point it's a sad and infuriating spectacle, his being 100% clear that right now Job One is Dems taking Congress and also 100% clueless on how enraged people are at candidates and politicians taking money from AIPAC and SuperPACs and billionaires -- and serving those interests over the common good of non-wealthy and vulnerable people. There is nothing "moderate" about opposing Medicare for All, as did Stevens (who was endorsed by Gov. Whitmer, a longtime opponent of M4A and whose father was a top executive in Blue Cross). But Simon keeps promoting establishment and corporate Dems (many but not all of his endorsees; many take no PAC or billionaire money).
I used to subscribe. Once someone pushed back on something Simon talked about (I don't recall what it was) and he was rather aggressive about shutting them down. I was surprised because he's otherwise soft-spoken; almost gentle, in his delivery.
I watched Simon smugly state over and over again how Kamala was going to win big in the lead up to 2024. I haven't trusted what he has to say since then.
He puts a lot of trust in polls. I haven't read it yet, but he posted something after Tuesday that supposedly explains why the polls were so wrong about El-Sayed's big lead.
Sometimes, when an influencer loses most of his/her audience, and the audience tells the influencer the exact reasons...sometimes those influencers change. However, sometimes it pushes the influencer to jump ship and become worse instead of better, imo.
I am happy to see I am not the only one disenchanted by Hopium author. I cancelled my Founding member status but I still subscribe although never comment. He is so wrapped up in "data" that he can not see the forest from the tree. Also he can not stand any criticism whatsoever. The next generations are moving on. Robert Hubbell, Josh Marshall, Contrarions, HCR, Joyce Vance, Dwarkin get it but Hopiums are stuck in their echo chamber.
I completely agree that Americans deserve better and therefore created a toolkit for actions any of us can take to Get Out The Vote -- GOTV -- to win in November by margins too large to contest. Let me know what you think after looking through the toolkit!
Hey, good to be cautious. If you look at my Substack profile, at a glance you can see my family has a long history of activism for peace and justice. But online, who knows what's real?
I have several "blurbs" -- several introductory sentences to tell what the toolkit is about, that I copy and paste into Substack and Facebook comments. My motivations are clear from this longest introduction that includes a "20:80 Guide for Pro-democracy Hope and Action":
The pro-democracy writers and activists I follow are fact-based and tell about the bad but then focus on the good: How we are going to win.
To help shift our intake and output of information from overwhelmingly "what's bad" to "what people have done, are doing, and can do," I made this this "20:80 Guide for Hope and Action":
The American people must vote for candidates that are going to fight for the people. Everyone, no matter their color or ethnicity.
America is done with white male privilege! It is time for the real majority in our country to take power. The women, the brown people, the black people, the Asians, the Muslims, the LBGBTQ
people, the atheists and the agnostics as well as those who have religious beliefs. Follow our Bill of Rights, the Constitution and the rule of law. Respect one another and live peacefully together.
I love Bernie.

We The People. For The People.
No radical right or left in those sentences. No republican, democrat, nor socialist or religious labels involved.
Great "to the point" summary, AnnieG!!!!!!!!!! Hope many more read your comment! Thanks!
I'm also disenchanted with Simon Rosenberg. He was recently bolding CENTRIST Democrats as those who Americans trust over the GOP.
To help shift our intake and output of information from overwhelmingly "what's bad" to "what people have done, are doing, and can do," I made this this "20:80 Guide for Hope and Action":

Everyone can find their niche. No act is too small.
Love this, Ben. Thank you! "Junkyard" is a great descriptor of how the People's House now looks!
