I understand and agree with much of what you’ve said. But I don’t think any of that registers with smug Jesse Watters who doesn’t even make a pretense of listening to what you say and constantly interrupts you. Unfortunately, I think that is true of most of MAGA. It’s the ones on the edge of that madness that I am trying to talk to.
Thank you for what you have said. I hope to put it in practice more often than I do now. Being respectful is probably the key, and that is something that eludes all Republicans these days.
Being an undeniable force for democracy by not tolerating any of the McGagat BS is the only way to deal with Nazis. You cannot understand them or empathize with them because what they want is incompatible with a civilized democracy.
I've found overcoming confirmation bias and cultism to be difficult. My usual approach is to ask the person, "Why do you believe that is true?" I listen for a few minutes then check the time and say something like, "That's an interesting point of view. I hadn't thought of it that way." (Obviously) Then I check the time and apologize for having to leave. If I'm annoyed I might add, "I've got something important I need to do." So far it has worked every time to prevent an argument.
Arguing facts with someone who is brainwashed is useless. How dare you attack the words of the Dear Leader. Making those arguments on FOX news only begins to change minds when the listener feels the economic pain at a level that can't be denied internally. I think we are reaching that point.
You're naive and speaking about someone who was already at odds with the McGagats. Mostly you should avoid talking to them and thereby decreasing you own angst as you cannot educate someone who has been immunized against truth. They will not learn (by speech at least, perhaps only by negative reinforcement) and do not WANT to learn. I learned as a professor that you cannot teach anything to anyone who does not want to learn.
Throwing ad hominem crap at the wall to see what sticks is a losing strategy and lowers the discussion to a sandbox dispute. For me, a decisive answer to the question of who won the 2020 election is the bar, low as that is. Anyone in 2026 who cannot answer truthfully is someone I won't talk to. All others are welcome.
I’ve got another: anyone who doesn’t denounce the J6 violent assault on the Capitol and Congress as an insurrection, who calls the traitorous participants “patriots,” is too far hone, too lost in delusion to have any meaningful dialogue.
It was staged by the democrats who had plants in the crowd that were the violent ones. There’s that excuse too. I’m sorry I know that one all too well. 😭
I’m not made for persuasion so I just avoid bringing anything up. I feel wayyyyyyy too strongly against what republicans in maga profess to believe out loud now even if they pretend to be oh so nice in public amongst those they don’t know which way they stand. The only thing I do attempt is making sure from round about statements that I’m for the people being persecuted now, especially by ice. I’m certain many here will say I’m weak and should try harder but I am truly revolted by the nasty if hidden when necessary vile beliefs of republicans and how even right now they’ll choose him over democracy. A rapist, corrupt liar that doesn’t even care one iota about those pledging allegiance to him. It’s too gross. I’ll let the Jessica’s amongst us do that work while I support others fighting to get our democracy back such as Marc Elias, Democracy Forward, Miles Taylor with Defiance, Aaron Parnas and of course the Meidas brothers, Ben, Brett, & Jordi just to name a few.
1) You can't debate in good faith with someone who refuses to respond in good faith, and TV political debates on your panel don't care about facts or good faith.
2) You can't use facts and logic to argue against the position taken by someone who didn't use facts or logic to arrive at their position. There is no way to argue against vague feelings.
Debating on Fox is a waste of time. No one watches Fox to examine a nuanced position.
Sorry, Jessica, but Fux is using you as a token "lib," just like they did Alan Colmes. These are NOT simply political opponents. They are deniers of truth and reality, and go even further to blatantly lie. You're not coming at them with anything they haven't already heard or seen, or that they don't already know. You need to be coming with them (at their viewers) with their hypocrisy, with basic truths, and by hitting back on their assumptions that they present as facts. I commend your attempts to argue with liars, but it can't be done if you don't hit harder.
There is a big difference between tough personal table conversations and media-covered debates on politics and current events. In one's personal life, you do not try to "win the conversation" with people who do not listen or care about the facts. There will always be sophists and liars in life; personally, I will not engage with them unless I am forced to make a vigorous defense in view of an injustice that I need to fight. Journalists, on the other hand, are public persons of the fifth estate, who are supposed to ask the hard societal questions and "win" the conversation by presenting the hard facts and receipts to back your arguments -- no matter what! You have a broader audience and responsibility. Our founders understood the journalist/analyst important role in preserving democracy in that way. Most people I know personally engage respectfully on a personal basis, but do not waste their time debating with closed or corrupt minds.
Whatever! Your timing is like 6 years too late and aimed at the wrong group of people and sus as shit. They have pushed many Americans too far there is too much trust lost to comeback from. Our better angels 😇 have been put muzzled and put in a corner.
And just because you saw fit to sit there as the punching bag for facists and collect your pay check from Fox doesn’t mean your insights have value or even safe in this situation.
Unity and understanding are not impossible..but right now fuck all these people destroying our rights and freedoms. It is far past a time for tolerance, because traitors and pedos and nationalist cannot be trusted.
Period.
How about have your colleagues read it and see if they’ll bite. But you can miss us with this BS homie.

SCREW FOX🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼👿👿👿👿
To stupid, ignorant, racist! No brain! Embarrassing that they kiss rethuglikkkrussians ass!
Jessica is the one voice on Fox that I respect. The others don't take on the lies forcefully enough. She is a true journalist.
Any voice on fox is a sell out.
Not hers. It's good to see someone talk back!
Thank you for what you have said. I hope to put it in practice more often than I do now. Being respectful is probably the key, and that is something that eludes all Republicans these days.

I'm glad that you are a voice of reason at what is otherwise a network of lies.
Fox's news should be called Fox's untrue news. They also have a big part in destroying America and continue saying the lies every day. FFN

That's nice and all, but here's how I see it.

Do you get through to anyone? I mean, they are paid to disagree with you.
