Canada agrees. Please remove the orange creature. This man sounds like a President to us.

Only pedophiles love Trump and cover up for the Orange One. I didn't like Trump even when he was going broke at that gambling place.

Oaktown's avatar

NOT!!! Please read up on Newsom's close affiliation with the Tech Nazis currently embedded in the Donnie Epstein regime. Newsom has vetoed bipartisan bills to regulate AI, social media, crypto and data centers. He opposes the Billionaire Tax, unlike Ro Khanna, who supports it. Newsom has accepted lots of money from Big Tech and he can in no way be trusted to work for or support effective, enforceable regulation of it. Newsom wants to join their club, not break it up.

Here is but one link that supports my comments, but there are many, many more. Don't be fooled by this poser, who is the former husband of Kimberly Guilfoyle, who later took up with Don Jr. himself: https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/is-gavin-newsom-progressive:

"California Governor Gavin Newsom has made headlines this winter by vowing to defeat a proposal for a one-time 5 percent tax on billionaires in the state. ... aligning with the ultra-wealthy is not auspicious for wooing the party’s voters. Last year, Reuters/Ipsos pollsters reported that a whopping *86 percent of Democrats* said 'changing the federal tax code so wealthy Americans and large corporations pay more in taxes should be a priority.' ”

" ...Newsom has drawn widespread praise for waging an aggressive war of words against President Trump. But few people outside of California know much about the governor’s actual record. Many Democratic voters will be turned off to learn that his fervent opposition to a billionaire tax is part of an overall political approach that has trended more and more corporate-friendly.

" ... A year ago, Newsom sent about 100 leaders of California-based companies a prepaid cell phone 'programmed with Newsom’s digits and accompanied by notes from the governor himself,' Politico reported. One note to the CEO of a big tech corporation said, 'If you ever need anything, I’m a phone call away.' *While pandering to business elites, Newsom has slashed budgets to assist the poor and near-poor with healthcare, housing and food—in a state where 7 million live under the official poverty line and child poverty rates are the highest in the nation.*

"The latest Newsom budget, released last month, continues his trajectory away from social compassion. 'The governor’s 2026-27 spending plan balances the budget by dodging the harsh realities of the Republican megabill, H.R. 1, and maintains state cuts to vital public supports, like Medi-Cal, enacted as part of the current-year budget,' the California Budget & Policy Center pointed out. 'Governor Newsom’s reluctance to propose meaningful revenue solutions to help blunt the harm of federal cuts undermines his posture to counter the Trump administration.' The statement said that the proposed budget 'will leave many Californians without food assistance and healthcare coverage.' ”

And Ben, PLEASE stop avoiding Newsom's record on these issues. Inform yourself of his voting record, who is funding his campaign, and stop giving nothing but softball interviews of him. Ask him these important questions NOW, well before the primaries. Otherwise, you just appear to be corporate media light instead of a truly independent media source. Why do you NEVER ask him about these facts???? Are you gonna let the same thing happen in 2028 that the Dem establishment did in 2016, when they pushed out Bernie in favor of Hillary, who then lost the election while the Bernie Bros who had supported Bernie went over to Trump?

Melinda's avatar

You vote for trump? All your above rants can be applied to trump/elon &

the project 2025 bros! This is where we are and this is where your misplaced

outrage should lay! With the 4th largest economy in the world, there comes

some unpopular concessions!

Oaktown's avatar

HELL NO!!! I have never—and would never—vote for Trump or any member of the Nazi party. I see no way my points could be applied to trump/elon and the project 2025 bros. Please explain your second sentence, because I don't see even a remote connection. I am opposed to Newsom and all the tech broligarchs like Peter Thiel, David Sacks, Alex Karp, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, etc., etc., etc. that MAGA is in bed with.

My outrage is not misplaced. I'm trying to let you know who Newsom really is beyond his staff's very clever posts (which I thoroughly enjoyed, but that's not sufficient to make a good president). I live in CA and have followed his career for a long time, so I know what I'm talking about. If you research his record, you will see I'm not making this up. Sorry, but Big Tech is my #1 issue because these Nazis have the money, the power, the surveillance software, and the intent to destroy our democracy; they must be regulated and held accountable—and Newsom will never do that.

Dawn Cali's avatar

Oaktown, I agree.

Important to question and look at people's records!

Newsom does look and sounds Presidential. Just need the other pieces to the puzzle, huh?

Americans deserve better.

Melinda's avatar

No need to "research" Gavin's record, I'm pretty sure I've lived/voted in Ca a whole lot long than you have. Big tech is a huge part of our economy, which we all claim to hate but use daily! Case and point, our apps malfunction & we all go into crisis mode.

Who currently has all the tech bros/billionaires under his thumb? Not

the Gov. of California, it's the current admin, who by the way are the

one's hell bent on destroying democracy & shredding our Constitution.

We have to pick the best of the worst and go from there!

Oaktown's avatar

You have no idea how long I've lived in CA so I don't get your comment there. I'm not in competition with anyone over who's lived in CA longer and didn't even know where you lived until just now.

Please note: I am NOT against technology; I just want it regulated effectively and their monopolies broken up so we can have true innovation and competition, which we no longer have. Every time a startup comes along with a good idea and superior product, someone like Zuckerberg buys them out in order to squelch his competition.

You are making my point on why I oppose Newsom as a candidate for president. It IS the current regime who is supporting big tech (though I would say the tech billionaires are not under Donnie's thumb; he's under THEIR thumbs). That's exactly why I want a candidate who will stand up to the tech bros and regulate them. We need a candidate who is NOT in bed with big tech in order to give voters a clear choice. These days we're working for technology; I want technology to work for us.

We're not down to two candidates yet. We're in the primaries. Of course if it comes down to Newsom v. a repugnican, I'll hold my nose and vote for Newsom, but I don't think he's the best candidate by a long shot—and I don't think he will get out the vote nation-wide as would someone like Mark Kelly or Ro Khanna. So far Khanna is the only potential candidate who has come out with courage to support the billionaire tax—and he represents Silicon Valley. I encourage you to listen to interviews with him if you haven't already.

Melinda's avatar

I guess when you replied like this...

"I live in CA and have followed his career for a long time, so I know what I'm talking about."

It was taken to mean; I don't live in Ca/don't know anything about his career or what I'm talking about!

Anyway, you do you... Over and out!

arne link's avatar

So, who do you support for President. Bernie is too old. We really need younger people.

Oaktown's avatar

As of right now, Ro Khanna (if he runs), as I said above. He's genuine, smart, answers difficult questions directly, and has risked his political career by supporting the Billionaire tax that his own district—Silicon Valley—is spending LOTS of money to defeat. He got the Epstein Files Transparency Act passed when nobody thought he could. His grandfather worked for Gandhi in fighting for India's independence and spent 4 or 5 years in jail.

Sylvia Sewell's avatar

jon norstog's avatar

You can tell when Trump is lying. Anytime his lips are moving.

sil's avatar

The problem is our country is not ready for a woman President. It doesn't matter on what side. Women are undervalued and under appreciated and look at Epstein how he torchured women , abused them…no a woman will never make it.

Debbie E's avatar

Absolutely agree. Kamala Harris has it all. She has been a public servant most of her adult life, she's intelligent, she's well-spoken, she's in touch with the American people, but she's a woman, and a woman of color at that. I'm 68 and sadly, I don't think I'll see a woman in the WH in my lifetime. I mean 36% of Democratic voters stayed home and that's more unforgiving than those who came out and voted for trump.

Gerry's avatar

Kamala was also a person of color. It was a one-two punch of racism, misogyny. She was, and still is, the most credentialed person to run for the office. Unfortunately, we didn’t hear much about her accomplishments as VP because she entered the race very late. I still question the swing state votes as accurate. I’m not election denying, but PA voted blue all the way down except for President. Didn’t make sense then, nor does it now

Debbie E's avatar

It doesn't make sense. Every swing state? By margins that are suspicious? Yeah, I am not an election denier either and I told people not to be like "them" but the more light is shed, the more it appears that there was something amiss.

Gerry's avatar

Harris folded too quickly. She should have demanded recounts. I agree, it smelled fishy

arne link's avatar

There was definitely interference in the voting of the swing states. No doubt about it. Why didn't she ask for recounts? That is what puzzles me.

sil's avatar

I am 65 and I don't ever believe in my lifetime a woman will become President. If we aren't willing to bring these pedo criminals to justice all around the world but especially in the US then how could we ever expect that women will be treated with dignity and voted in any position of power. As long as people feel women are objects to be abused and tortured with such cruelty how could they ever be respected. It's mind boggling. Women need to come together as a massive force of every nationality and culture to change this wicked environment. Like become unionized! The fight is for our granddaughters!!

Debbie E's avatar

Very well said. When I am out talking to folks, or protesting, it's the women of all ages still supporting THIS, this man, this administration, with everything we know to be true, and litigated, it's appalling and mind-boggling, and disheartening. I just don't understand it.

sil's avatar

Honestly, now he is trying to stop all women voting without a US passport. Throwing anything into the pie. There needs to be a donation fund dedicated to women to go get passports! Some Senator set it up or an organization. Every women needs this freedom too! Very important!

Karen O’Quinn's avatar

I like AOC for President but not at this time. Not enough experience yet. She’d be great as a Senator. Plus we’re not ready yet for a woman President. Maybe in 8-10 years.

jon norstog's avatar

I'm ready for a woman President right now.

Karen O’Quinn's avatar

Me too but there’s too much misogyny in the MAGA ranks to risk having a Woman candidate this time around.

Oaktown's avatar

I'm NOT. Please read my reply to Aurelia Navarro above for a partial explanation.

Ashley Bergman's avatar

Shout out to all the California residents!! I’m in San Diego. Where are you? I really feel for people who live in red states (or areas) — those who don’t want to be there. This quote from the article says so much about Trump’s fragile ego: “He was threatening other world leaders not to even meet with me,” Newsom said. “He’s a weak, weak president. And that weakness is on display globally now.”

SFGal's avatar

Ashley, me and my peeps are cheering for Gavin up here in Vacaville! (:

Oaktown's avatar

I'm NOT. Please read my reply to Aurelia Navarro above for a partial explanation.

SFGal's avatar

Yes, Oak, I'm aware of your past critiques regarding Newsom that have not gone unnoticed and with today's as well-researched and thoughtfully-stated I am respectful of your point of view that gives pause for reflection. Though I empathize with the issues you raise I tend to look more to his overall appeal even as I agree with you about the !% taxation and I do cringe and despair regarding his approach to homelessness.

Thank you for your stated views. I'm obsessed with the MSNOW ad reciting the body of the 1st Amendment like a prayer to me stating the most important elements of our lives now more than ever.

Oaktown's avatar

Do you really think he will be overall appealing to the entire country? I see no way he'd ever get any former Trump voters on board—or any of the massive numbers of Bernie and AOC fans, for that matter. I do think someone like Ro Khanna could.

Newsom made a big public splash with his staff's posts (and I enjoyed them too), but if he's the candidate all his elitist baggage and voting record will do him serious damage in a national campaign and fail to draw a clear distinction between the Red and Blue parties. The public has had it with elites and billionaires, and he clearly aspires to be one more than to serve the underserved. Remember his French Laundry escapade? That was but one example. Regulating Big Tech is my #1 priority because they pose the biggest threat to democracy and civil liberties.

Ashley Bergman's avatar

I appreciate your comments on Newsom. I’m still split about my thoughts on him being our President. I heard a content creator say that the people running Newsom’s social media are the ones who should be elected — not him.

Oaktown's avatar

Agree with your last sentence 100%. I understand why so many people are excited about Newsom because of his laudable push back on Trump, but I'm absolutely certain that most people don't know who he really is.

Remember during Covid when he put the state under lockdown, then was caught having a VERY expensive dinner with his inner circle at the French Laundry against his own edict? That and so much more will come out in a national campaign and it won't be pretty. I'd hold my nose and vote for him ONLY if it was down to him or a repugnican. I want us to WIN, and I think Newsom would be like going for Hillary over Bernie all over again.

SFGal's avatar

No, Oak, I don't necessarily believe he'd appeal to the entire country. You're right about no Trumpers and probably not Bernie/AOC people, among whom as well I number myself. Ro Khanna is a good choice as I also believe Mark Kelly and Pritzker. I hope someone at least like Gavin.

Yes, the French Laundry is not forgotten and Gavin has great wealth in vineyards/wineries. I do understand about Big Tech and have qualms about that, particularly in regard to the details you enunciate. And I do have concerns about him not supporting the 1% wealth tax, hoping maybe he'll see the light and change his mind. I cheer for him, but time will tell as he may ameliorate some of his more "hard-core" views.

Oaktown's avatar

Mark my words: he'll try to appear to ameliorate his views in order to get elected, but he will sell us down the river if he does. We need to break up corporate monopolies and regulate Big Tech, and the fact he gave all those people cell phones and said to call whenever they needed anything speaks volumes. He wants power and money first and foremost.

I like Mark Kelly too, but have yet to learn where he stands on regulating big tech. I'm adverse to billionaire politicians, which is why I can't get excited about Pritzker, who comes from a long standing super wealthy family, many of whom have a sketchy history with the underworld as researched by Whitney Webb in her two-volume book "One Nation Under Blackmail."

I almost wish we could have a civilized, modern sort of Civil War where we could get all the parties to be in the same states/areas, so that the voting/decisions only affected them, and same for the benefit systems. I suppose it wouldn’t work for long because it is good to have different perspectives, but it would teach some much needed lessons to all of us. I published an article earlier today about how moving changed my perspective on so many things.

Wealth tax is a horrible idea if not nationwide, Newsom is correct to oppose it else his state will be at disadvantage.

Oaktown's avatar

You appear to be drinking the Kool-Aid from Silicon Valley billionaires and wannabe billionaire Newsom in my considered opinion. Do you think he also vetoed bipartisan bills requiring data center proposals to reveal how much water they would take from our already limited supplies in drought prone CA because "the state will be at disadvantage," or have you not thoroughly researched his voting record?

We cannot afford to wait for nationwide restrictions on AI algorithms, data center build-outs, crypto, etc. This is a national emergency, and when the nation is gridlocked and won't respond, CA needs to lead the way—as they have done in the past; because we're a big state and economy, regulations passed here generally spread nationally as they did with cars, for example.

Navneet Verma's avatar

He has passed most progressive policies of any governor under his tenure. Just not progressive policies you want, because he is valid in his reasoning it will be bad for economic growth and long term tax revenue for the state.

We must all understand during these small wins…. This is a man that does not give a damn about the American people and only cares about getting his own way. We have to understand that this entire demonically influenced corrupt antichrist regime if we want to save our country must be physically removed and sooner than later, or he will destroy the US. That is their mission him and the oligarch’s pulling all the puppet strings. I am baffled and how easy this has been for him for a self-serving idiot to ruin a superpower to ruin our face and self-respect in the world to harm the world, our allies and trade partners and cuddle up with criminal elements and be able to execute all this crap I mean, don’t we have the strongest military in the world and what the hell are they doing? we have fought fascism all around the globe but now it’s on our soil. What is our Congress doing and what is our military doing about it??

Sylvia Sewell's avatar

Did not know Newsom was dyslexic. So, when is President Orange Snake (POS) going to make fun of him. Though I very much doubt POS can even read.

uRNangel423's avatar

It could also be possible that DT has dyslexia too, as he seems to wander off reading speeches, he much prefers “winging it” and doesn’t like reading morning reports!

arne link's avatar

No, Trump suffers from dementia. He wanders off because his mind is going. That is not a symptom of dyslexia.

Article 2, Section 4 - We have to face reality, this entire fascist/racist/corrupt/misogynous regime, must be forced out!!

This regime is full of pedophiles and pedophile protectors. If audits were done on every member of this government, the ones in the White House would be charged with many financial crimes, as well as, sexual assault charges. High crimes and misdemeanors, treason. IMHO.

Don't get me wrong I like Newsome. But he's a little too cozy with the tech billionaire bros.

Sue Stjohn's avatar

It doesn't matter who is tight with the tech billionaires. The Oligarchs have always told the layer below what to do. We can't stop the advancing tech industry of which is moving faster and faster. We'll never go back to manual ways of which at times I wish we would. We need to get rid of The Heritage Foundation!

Oaktown's avatar

You are falling for the Tech Nazis' favorite scare tactic. It's not a false choice of no regulation of Big Tech v. doing away with technology!!!

Please read Gary Marcus's book "Taming Silicon Valley: How We Can Ensure that the Internet Works for Us." He wrote his first AI program translating English/Latin when he was 10 or 11 years old, so he knows what he's talking about and he is no Luddite. We don't need to move faster and faster; we need to slow down and stop making ill-informed snap judgments and policies. Another important read: Karen Hao's "Empire of AI."

David Maceira's avatar

Thank you for sharing!

David Maceira's avatar

Personally, I don't believe in being ruled by an oligarchy. Or kleptocracy. But do keep in mind that these are the exact same people who pit us against each other. In truth they are the reason why we as a society cannot have nice things.

Also, for decades they and their bought and paid for congress critters have complained and fought against us. For things like a decent living wage, workplace protections and conditions, affordable housing, healthcare for all, social services, infrastructure, affordable education and most of all paying their fair share of the tax burden.

I'm no fan of the Heritage Foundation. But eliminating them would accomplish about as much as putting a band aid on a sucking chest wound.

patricia montague's avatar

Everyone must UNSUBSCRIBE from as much Big Tech as possible … it’s the only way until Regulated Tech comes into being. I think back and wish Bernie Sanders would have won the Dem ticket in 2016. Things WOULD most likely be different now.

Ashley's avatar

He’s really going hard for a 2028 nomination and less than 6 degrees of separation from Trump, so I don’t trust him entirely. But if he, AOC, and others can help bolster the flailing global alliance for us now and get us through January 2027, I will be forever grateful. He’s one of the few willing to take on this nonsense. And that’s not nothing.
