And they're closely linked, as many of us have been pointing out for decades. Kimberlé Crenshaw coined the term "intersectionality" ca. 1989 to emphasize that the various oppressions can't be neatly sorted into self-contained categories: race, sex, class, and more are inextricably interrelated.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

It's key for sure, but when so many of Trump supporters and Republicans are women, especially white women, it's complicated. My hunch is that the overwhelming majority of Trump's white women supporters are straight. The stats on "single women" indirectly support this, but they don't break out women who identify as lesbian or bisexual. Since marriage equality became law, "married" no longer means "legally married to someone of the opposite sex."

“No one” read Project 2025. People believed all of Trump’s lies. Now I think those that voted for him are in two camps. No, three camps. Those who honestly regret their vote and admit it, those who regret their vote but are too proud/embarrassed to admit it, and the TRUE MAGA who would follow him over a cliff. I feel for the first camp and believe they made a mistake. I think we have to extend ourselves to the first two camps and have honest discussions. Lessen the divide. We can't reach the third camp IMHO.

Concentrate on inspiring the millions of DEMS WHO DID NOT BOTHER TO VOTE to get off theirdead asses and vote, and inspiring the young people who are also easily manipulated to vote for demagogues because they have NO KNOWLEDGE of civics or history, and therefore no frame of reference for the atrocities being committed openly by the Repugnant party. You call it a MISTAKE to vote for trump? Choosing a convicted felon who repeatedly said he wanted to be a dictator, among all the other evidences of his sociopathic intents and purposes (which are too numerous to list here) is not a MISTAKE. It is a conscious decision to put at the head of the United States a psychopath because you"like the way he talks." In other words, because you admire his racism, his misogny, and his half-witted speeches! This is not a MISTAKE. And the people who chose this demented felon to be the President of the United States deserve every goddamn injury he inflicts upon us all. They need to line up with him at the guillotine.

Anne Miller's avatar

I don't disagree with anything you said. I agree with everything! I certainly didn't vote for him. I was trying to say that trump is a cult leader and is really good with promulgating propaganda and convincing people to believe in him. He's so adept that people ignore the fact that he's a felon, etc. Regarding his racism, misogyny, etc. I have come to the conclusion that as a country, we haven't made nearly the progress in almost 200 years that I thought we had. Either much of our population is racist and misogynistic or they just don't care that he is. Some people seemingly agree with trump sending armed ICE agents into homes, schools, places of work, and deporting citizens and noncitizens (and children dying of cancer) to places like the concentration camp prisons in El Salvador. What else can we believe? Cynthia, I would appreciate your opinions about the people who voted for trump.

And contempt for their criminal stupidity in believing verbatim everything he says, in being unable and/or unwilling to hear the nonsense he spouts, to recognize the mendacity in his every utterance. I could go on, but I can just summarize what I think of them by saying that the very sight of them enrages me to a murderous degree, and listening to their opinions fills me with so much contempt that I cannot be responsible for the venom with which I respond.

We need a new party that begins with the letter R as many simply look for the R and pull the lever. I suggest the “Right Party” meaning “correct” as it will confuse the hell out of the “right wing” and will eliminate his use of “radical left lunatics.”

I don't put any bumper stickers on my car because I don't want to encourage road rage from anyone, let alone a neighbor. A friend of mine once stopped at a gas station with a KQED bumper sticker on her car and was verbally assaulted by another man because of THAT. I figure not every person can handle the truth or even an opinion, especially these days. Pick your battles with care.

I live in what was a very Trumpy neighborhood, but you don't see the flags any longer. This is also an air force town. I've an upside down flag on my car, and nobody has said or done anything when I'm driving around. However, I live in L.A. County where Trump is not well received by the majority.

it's why I'm saying with a sad but true heart that USA is already divided by the Counties, Municipalities, Townships, Congressional/Electoral Districts. Hey, you completely misunderstood what I was trying to say.

First, I meant to say upside *down* flag (not upside). Apologies for my error. My point was that because both political sides have used that symbol it can be interpreted two ways, so you would be less likely to be harassed by a MAGA jerk. I was thinking of your safety, not implying that YOU were not committed or courageous.

Second, why do you assume I'm a man?

Great question. Options

1) if you’re signed into a Google account, there’s a star after the name of the document at the top you can click and then it’ll be in your “Starred” Google folder

2) just copy the link once the page is open and copy it into an email draft that you can always go back and click open

3) copy the link and put it somewhere else to save, like Notes app if you have an iPhone
