Once healed, check out Essentrics.com which is a stretching program (developed by an injured ballerina 25 years ago). With the loss of 2 rotator cuffs, I was told I’d never raise my hand above my head. After PT and doing Essentrics, I can easily raise my hand above my head without pain. Not sure I’m allowed to plug this but it helped me a great deal. Oh yeah, I can swim doing the crawl which they also I wouldn’t be able to do.

I have a 71 year old woman friend who had shoulder surgery and honestly she is not all that much better. And she followed all the exercizes. I'll go check out Essentrics, thanks.

Non surgical spinal decompression. NSSD. A specialized chiropractor is needed. I discovered it to avoid back surgery. Try it before you go the surgical route . Praying for you

I did the same. 11 years ago I had to sit in extremely bad chair for several hours while purchasing a new car. Back pain[several herniated discs in Lumbar spine] led to sciatica. The fellow who sold me the car told me about a chiropractor on the far north side of San Antonio who had a spinal decompression machine[aka a Rack] I went to him twice a month for 5 years for 5 years until we moved to Eastern OK in 2017 and discovered a new chiropractor who also had the machine. Because back stopped hurting almost 6 years ago, I no longer need to use the machine. Spinal decompression worked for me. Back surgery no longer needed

Ben - I am here to join those who say look into all alternatives to healing without surgery before resorting to surgery. I had an extremely painful herniation of L5 in 1989 and instead of resorting to surgery immediately, I saw a physiatrist who saw me through the pain and put me on the path to rehab. I had 3 or 4 months of healing (no sitting for long periods and regular pain and relaxation meds) - I was then put on an extensive PT and OT program (I worked out in a gym with the SF 49er's) - from that moment on, I have maintained the PT exercises and combined them with regular Pilates sessions on the reformer - keeping the core strong and staying flexible is the key. Yoga can help too. I have gone 35 years with no back pain at all ever! Imagine if 35 years ago I hadn't found a doctor who did not believe in immediate surgery when the pain is so bad!! 35 years ago - and I found the right guy, did what I was told religiously and have had no further back issues or pain. Please seek alternatives before resorting to surgery - which often does not solve the problem but exacerbates it for years. Good luck!!

So right. When my back starts hurting I know I have neglected my core. Some yoga poses are my first go to. Then core (tummy) work either yoga or Pilates. Find small classes or get a personal trainer. My husband and I see one 3 times a week. My husband was scheduled for shoulder surgery when Covid hit so we zoomed exercise with her. And she did do some focus his shoulder. After Covid, went back to the surgeon and found he didn't need surgery. I can tell a lot of your subscribers care about you.

Namely, a CHIROPRACTOR. This is their field of study and expertise, with data to back it up. Bio-Medical MDs do not have in depth training or scope of practise in this area of anatomy. Surgeries often result in relapse and poor outcomes. Chiropractic results in excellent outcomes, without risk or invasive procedures. Medical Journals show this data. Please consider it Ben, it will change your life.

I agree, Anne. I suffered a broken back at 19. By 27 I was certain I'd soon be in a wheel chair. Then, I was told to see a chiropractor. It was frankly a miracle and here I am at 77 spry and prancing about like a show pony. However, possibly you can enlighten me as to why once I hit 66, no chiropractor would consent to giving me adjustments. I have learned to live with that but sincerely miss it.
