Do away with the excessive fossil fuels - coal especially, get back to renewable energy resources. It will not be quick solutions but it needs to start
I read the news from several sources everyday and never saw a story about what has been going on in Gary Indiana. WTF?? I think climate change will be a huge factor in global instability going forward. Food and water are not luxuries for our survival.
I grew up in Gary. It's a shadow of what it was, mostly POC and high percentage of poor people live there, but I visit the old neighborhoods from time to time, and, with respect to the power lines and maintaining tree trimming in the city, it became a joke. They claim they had a schedule they followed, but anyone who lives there know they didn't do it. Many trees fell all over the city on homes and streets. NIPSCO, the privately owned (of course) utility, didn't have repair parts on hand, didn't have sufficient linemen, equipment to remove trees, and were extremely poorly organized while trying to handle this emergency. NIPSCO is known to have poor management. There did not appear to be a sense of urgency. Some other more affluent areas were without power for 5 or 6 days, but most had power back in 1 to 3. I am looking forward to discovery in the class action suit being brought against NIPSCO. They only care about shareholders, a CEO who got $12million in total compensation last year, and kow towing to data centers. Indiana appears to be the test ground for massive data center construction because its' stupid Republican "leaders" were salivating at the thought of getting millions in revenue--while handing out, thus far, $550 million in sales tax breaks, and God knows how much more under the table. Towns have been signing NDAs with these data center people. How is that even legal, when taxpayer money is being used? In the end, these events are not a surprise to me, and they will get worse and worse. We won't be able to repair our way out of it, and I don't know how you get people who continue to deride anyone or anything that says climate change is real and made worse by human action to change their minds. Human beings are really not very smart. God could have done better when creating them.
He should be removed from office if he doesn’t put guardrails up to address global warming. It’s ridiculous that we have to placate to his narcissism. So we want to allow one person to push us to the brink of a climate disaster.

Like it or not, it's a race to the extinction of the human race and lots of other species. I'm sure the billionaires have all purchased land as far north as possible. But will it still be there when all the ice melts? Probably not. It will all be under water. And if it's not the end from being unable to grow crops, research tells us it will come to a race for the last available resources simply because humans have very little self control. And that's all it takes to ruin it for everybody.

You can get a "Grove" of 10 trees from National Wildlife Federation for about $50. svc@nwf.org I order these when someone, family or pets, passes away. They plant the trees in areas most in need. They have larger packages too. We can't solve everything that's wrong right away, but we can proactively mitigate some things.

Very fucking simple...we have go-bags in case of a conflagration that could destroy our mobile home in seconds here in Yucaipa, California. After that, then what? The insurance companies will not pay nor will the Trump regime that hates California, send any funds. Look at what happened to the folks in Altadena last year. Where are they now? I have watched the October and November fires of Southern California move northward. They are not confined to mountains and canyons; now they spread into the valleys. The hot desert winds known as Santa Anas and Diablos that used to occur in the autumn are now year round. But words like "global warming" are now among words that you just don't mention in public!

The November 1961 Bel Air fire in Los Angeles was the first "big one" the city anticipated that burned almost 500 homes. That conflagration is dwarfed by the fires that have occurred in the last decade.
I lived in San Diego for a few years. I remember the Santa Anas. Unpleasant with no air conditioning, but not a tragic loss of homes, businesses, lives & livelihoods. I have said a few times that I don't understand my own gender. I don't understand why so many men love to watch destruction of things blowing up, crashing, fires, violence. I don't get why men cheer when there's a fight in a hockey game. It is especially distressing that the way men "settle" things now is with a gun! Mission Hills, Kansas. Tuesday we removed a 70 year old Oak just 4 ft away from our SW corner bedroom. It was shedding bark and our City Arborist said 3-5 yrs. We chose to remove now and not risk ever increasing climate change extreme weather.
Whenever pets, or family members pass away I get tree memorials planted via National Wildlife Federation. It is not expensive and it's a more permanent memorial than just flowers. The trees are planted in areas most in need of reforestation. The National Wildlife Federation service@nwf.org
In tornado alley we used to get bad storms in April and May. Now it’s Thanksgiving and 4th of July. Our winters get too warm, followed by very hard freezes, which kill the bees.
As a left-behind Afghan ally, I know what it feels like when your life suddenly changes and you have no safe way forward. That is why these stories touch me. Behind every disaster, there are families trying to survive and rebuild their lives. I hope the world does not become so used to suffering that it stops caring.
At this point in time, with the idiot in office, along with all his sycophants, we must do everything we personally can to limit our impact on our environment: recycle everything you can, ask for paper instead of plastic bags at stores, or bring you own, offer a ride to someone you know is heading to the same places, turn your thermostats up or down to conserve costs and use, etc, etc. once we have a change in our government for the better, we still need to do all that, but our new Congress needs to come up with laws and regulations that have some teeth in them, that can’t be ignored because someone doesn’t like them. And, we all need to try our best to work together, across the aisles when it benefits the world we live in.
We had 5 feet of rain in 5 hours on July 1. We have the insurance company rebuilding our basement and consider ourselves lucky. I have suffered PTSD and can't even stand to go down there anymore. I can't wait for the US midterms. Plus it is my personal ambition to outlive the orange slug.
Damn phone….as part of a farm family in Oregon, we pay property taxes to support mostly schools, local roads, cemeteries, etc., reproductive responsibility is becoming even more important. The wells we drilled in the 60’s&70’s to increase crop production are not recharging as they used to. We don’t generally get the snow we used to for our rivers,(poor salmon & other wildlife,) there are more special needs children in our schools (from drug parents) needing medication & usually on public assistance. Thank God we have some great libraries in most of our state for those who learn to read. You get the picture of a tornado picking up more & more reasons, & objects to spiral out of our control. They pick up speed as they pick up more crap we put In their way. Wake up idiots. Think of all the little things people could do to avoid causing more problems in our communities. Make a list & work on a few little things to start with.

I live in Reno Tahoe area and Wildfires have been brutal. Extremely low humidity and increased winds that are unpredictable.
