IN YOUR BACKYARD: The People’s Fight for Affordability

In the fifth installment of In Your Backyard, Luke Radel examines the affordability crisis, speaking with Americans facing soaring costs and a U.S. representative fighting for working families.

The midterm elections are only days away and few issues are defining the moment as much as affordability. Americans have spent $100 Billion more on gas since the start of Trump’s war in Iran, and gas has been above $4 longer this year than ever before. In the 8 months since the start of his war, it’s cost Americans an extra $1,100 in energy costs alone – with another $50 added every week. Gas prices and utility bills are two of voters’ top-three most important issues ahead of the midterms – surpassed only by grocery costs.

That’s why campaigns are spending millions of dollars to define the stakes for energy affordability and make their case to , while voters on ads referencing the costs drowning voters across the country.

Luke talked to two of them and learned how even things like getting a ride to a critical medical appointment have gotten more complicated. He also talked to U.S. Rep. Summer Lee, one of the founders of the People’s Environmental Justice Caucus.

How are affordability issues affecting you in your backyard? Let us know in the comments so we can discuss on the other side of the elections.
