Iowa Democrat Just Told Us About a Very Bad Sign for Trump

Josh Turek tells Ben Meiselas why he believes Iowa’s Senate race is winnable, as Trump signs come down and rural voters turn against MAGA

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Josh Turek joined MeidasTouch co-founder Ben Meiselas with a striking assessment of what he is seeing on the ground in Iowa as he campaigns against Republican Ashley Hinson.

“This is a winnable race,” Turek said, pointing to recent ratings that have moved the contest into toss-up territory.

But the most interesting part of the conversation may have been what Turek says is happening in Iowa’s rural communities.

Asked whether he is seeing meaningful movement among independents and previous Trump voters, Turek said the word he hears most often is “betrayal.”

He pointed to tariffs, rising farm costs, the Iran war, higher gas and diesel prices, and Iowa’s farm economy as sources of growing frustration among rural voters.

And according to Turek, that frustration is becoming visible.

“The Trump signs and the Trump flags, they are coming down,” Turek told Meiselas, adding that his own campaign signs are increasingly appearing in rural communities.

Turek also hammered Hinson over health care, tariffs and her support for the Iran war. He said his campaign is offering what he calls a “common sense prairie populist” alternative focused on workers and the middle class rather than billionaires and large corporations.

His agenda includes affordable housing, protecting Medicare and Medicaid, lowering prescription drug costs, strengthening public schools and banning members of Congress from trading stocks.

With control of the Senate potentially hanging on a handful of races, Turek believes Iowa could become one of the biggest surprises of the midterms.
