If the survivors told the truth, without proof, it would be their word against some very powerful men (and at least one woman-Maxwell) that sexually assaulted them. These powerful and wealthy offenders would destroy the survivor who tried to tell the truth, by suing them for sullying their name. They generally received 10 years adjudicated probation. No jail or prison time. If the offenders were caught breaking the probation rules, they could be sent to prison to serve their time. AND then, of course, there were those judges that made light of the sexual abuse of the child...because they didn't want to ruin the young man's (offender's) life. No thought of how the child victim's life was ruined. So, because of my experiences with these kids, and so many adult women who were sexually assaulted as children, I think these survivors would be putting themselves in danger - with few people to help them survive the backlash.
