What could be a truer emergency than millions of people going hungry? Especially while Trump treats his favored ones to high end parties and perks. It makes me want to vomit. This is so immoral, so inhumane. Time to wake up, many of us could be next.

Start calling! Share numbers!

Bluesmurf's avatar

And if you can't get through to their offices, try their State office... or FAX them. They all have FAX numbers and there are Free FAX apps. They are not allowed to turn off their FAX Printers, so flood them.

Connie Larsen's avatar

I put Thune n Johnson fax numbers on here! Need to spread them around!

Connie Larsen's avatar

Thank you! I didn’t know that!

Connie Larsen's avatar

Thune Fax 202 228 5429

Johnson Fax 202 228 5724

Thanks, Connie, for the phone numbers! Yes, they continue to pay themselves while other federal employees are expected to continue working w/o pay. What a system. We have GOT to vote those parasites out of office ASAP!!! Minnesota has the Republican albatross Tom EMMER - at least for now. We must vote him OUT.

WTH, trump says we should show ID to buy groceries! OMG! And gym jordan wants some Jack Smith tapes! I would like to see/hear some gym jordan interviews from his victims of sexual abuse! Remember them????

What’s the equivalent of “let them eat cake” but when you’re building bathrooms and ballrooms instead?

gayle gibson's avatar

Even cake would be something in the belly. These cruel idiots won't even give that! How about some marble shavings, or brick dust?

Lyn's Eyes's avatar

They should remember Louis and Marie.

Janet Wilson's avatar

Louis and Marie both rejected the off-ramps offered them, btw. Like Trump they wanted all or nothing. Well, we know how that ended.

Seems to me Adolph made the same gambit...

MATTHEW CHAPTER 25 VERSE 35!

Janet Wilson's avatar

Amen

"Matthew 25:35 states, "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me". This verse is part of a larger passage in Matthew 25 that describes Jesus separating the righteous from the wicked, explaining that acts of service toward "the least of these my brethren" are acts of service to him. This passage emphasizes how compassion for others—feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, and welcoming strangers—is a demonstration of one's love for God"

We are not peasants! We the People built this country with blood/sweat. You Oligarchs, built your wealth and power, off of our backs. I am tired of this soft porn, grade F, reality contest of a government. We are talking about a pedophile king who has fleeced Americans dry. No more, rise up, cameras out.

Becky O A's avatar

I appreciate that you give us more talking points about SNAP in this article, trying to convince people who think SNAP is an entitlement program and not every one deserves to have food. I especially appreciate breaking down the numbers for how much a day...and I will now compare it for people to how much they spend on lattes and junk food. Sounds like a scene from Les Mis or Charles Dickens Oliver. Only in Trump America.

Edie Sadowski's avatar

The same people also think Social Security is an entitlement program! Look at the deductions on your paycheck!😬

Ann Marie's avatar

What’s it going to take to wake up a large segment (MAGA) of Americans to see the truth? Anyone who listens to tRump and FUX News lives a different reality.

Bluesmurf's avatar

Did you know the poverty level for one person is based on the Federal Minimum wage of $7.50 per hour? And the poverty level is "before taxes" - $15, 650. Seniors get as little as 900 per month and Medicare is automatically taken out of that before the check goes out - no choice whether you want it, can afford it or not - the price of Medicare through December 2025? $185.00 per month. That leaves a senior to live off 1/2 the money that is considered poverty level with Medicare alone, which doesn't cover much of anything and charges you 20% for every medical thing you do, except, I think, a checkup.

Factor those numbers in with your math.

Edie Sadowski's avatar

So true! Millions of workers/Seniors would qualify in Canada or Europe at a much higher wage level. Medicare doesn't, things that all Seniors need like hearing and dental!!!! What's with that!???

Geri Cochran's avatar

The only developed country that does not provide universal health care is the USA. Elected MAGAs don't want it because their bosses, the oligarchs will lose too much money. The corporate democrats also do not want it because their rich donors don't want it. Heck I've been attacked by moderate democrats who don't want to pay for 'those people's' health care or insurance. smdh Universal health care explained on Bernie Sanders' 2016 campaign page, would take care of everyone and include: physical health, mental health, drug addiction treatment, dental, vision, hearing and home health care, with no co-pays and no premiums, etc. Taxes paid for it all. BUT too many citizens are too selfish, and don't want to help others.

The hilarious part of this is that the current system harms us all. Next time you go to an ER look at the machines and furniture. When I took my elderly mother to the ER, the drawers wouldn't open; the cabinet fell half way off when I attempted to open it; the adjustable table didn't adjust; the B/P instrument did not work; the bed did not raise or lower, AND the nurse forgot to turn the IV back on, from the ambulance ride. And yes, this was one of the two major hospitals in my area. The Hospital did correct the problems in the ER cubicle, after I wrote the hospital and board members...but the other cubicles had similar problems - and I doubt they were repaired. :( smdh

Makes their situation even more dire. Combined with having to pay copays if they are on straight Medicare and high living as seniors, particularly in small rural areas, they don't have much to spare. If you want to get on Medicare/Medicaid, the ceiling for assets is $2000 and 1 car. Again, tight squeeze for anyone's budget.

Jill Kershaw's avatar

Trump and his sycophants need to remember what Katniss said in the Hunger Games:

“Fire is catching. If we burn, you burn with us.”

Kirsten L. Held's avatar

This whole situation makes me heartsick to a degree I've never reached before, which is really saying something for me as I've reached some real lows. I will never get used to the level of cruelty that some people seem to be capable of. I mean, if you have that much hate inside of you, you must be feeling awful. Why not just take yourself out and put yourself and the others who you will harm out of misery? It's a level of true mental and emotional sickness that is horrifying to witness and be subjected to.

Dik de Bruijn's avatar

" . . . if you have that much hate inside of you, you must be feeling awful." Normal people would feel awful. But Trumpty Dumpty and his thugs AND the people who voted for him aren't normal. For them, the hate and cruelty are the point.

gayle gibson's avatar

Long ago, in Catholic school, i was taught that a mortal sin killed the life of God within the soul. These people have all killed the light within themselves, drowned it in their greed and pride and ambition and cruelty.

Suzanne Swan's avatar

The measure of a nation is how they treat their youngest and most elderly population. The US has sunk to banana republic status using this yardstick.

Marc's avatar

Why insult the banana republic. The US is turning into Trump's BFF's country of ruZZia. Starvation will be real soon enough in Putin/Stalin's ruZZia.

Kristine Blake's avatar

People require SNAP because they are not paid a living wage.

Even working 10-12 hour days, 6 days a week. If one unexpected expense pops up, the family has to choose between a bill or a belly.

Plus, these exact humans pay the most taxes when compared to those making over $400,000.00.

Imagine not being able to afford your taxes living paycheck to paycheck?

That’s stinky’s 2016 fuckery.

The taxes on the bottom “middle,” go up every year. It’s the highest form of “f-you,” with no end date.

Bluesmurf's avatar

And isn't it sickening that someone who makes even $5 has to pay $1 in taxes? That's 20%. Our tax system is regressive because people who make $1,000 taxable income, pay $101 - that's 10.1% (1/2) The poorest of the poor pay 20% in taxes while the level just above poor pays half that. Doesn't make sense to me.

Cheeto And Erasing History

Marc Elias at Democracy Docket in his recent essay(https://bit.ly/48Sp4TK) points out in Orwell’s dystopian novel “1984” that the force behind the totalitarian regime was to not only distort and lie about historical facts but by the repetition of the lies, to erase history itself That history should be warped to fit the leader’s own narrative of what really happened

Cheeto’s entire malignant narcissistic public life career is to make his malevolent past history go away Erase it This is the force behind Cheeto’s obstruction of release of the Epstein files He’s also tried to erase his convictions in the E Jean Carroll case and the Tish James election interference case involving Stormy Daniels He successfully avoided prosecutions in the Mar A Lago documents case and the J6 incitement of riot but with his recent DOJ actions he continues to try to erase the facts like any good old fashioned malignant narcissist would do

Let’s just be clear Cheeto is a deranged depraved arrogant evil psychotic sociopath Beneath the façade of a hunched over lumbering frame is a sick sick mind History will remember him for that AND his attempted coverups So speak your mind loudly to your neighbors, friends, coworkers, and family unabashedly unafraid to hold Cheeto accountable for the history he has created And to try to never repeat the same mistake the American electorate made just as Germany has tried to do

Geri Cochran's avatar

He is the perfect felon for the job of destroying our democratic republic: as is all of his cabinet. This is the job of the MAGAs: destroy our freedoms, destroy our progress, and keep us poor and hungry. Hard to convince people to stand up for themselves if they are too busy trying to find enough food for their families. :(

Actually they should be put in prison. No TV, no club fed. No special meals. Never to be released. Trump is committing murder by ordering the withholding of SNAP funding, AND we didn't mention blowing up fishing boats. So let's add war crimes. Heartbroken Aussie.

gayle gibson's avatar

Right on. Hmm - is Agent Orange building dungeons (as well as a bunker) under his ballroom?

Geri Cochran's avatar

NO. Mentally ill patients should not have to put up with these selfish bullies while they are trying to get better. The people running this regime are not mentally ill: they are choosing hatred, cruelty and taking away our freedoms by CHOICE. Do not confuse this regime with mental illness, please.
