I've had facebook for years and received the following message when trying to logon to my account.

Confirm your identity with a video selfie

To make sure you’re a real person, we need you to record a video selfie. We’ll ask you to move your head during the recording to help us capture your face at different angles.

I'm not going to send you a video. I have no reason to believe that it would be secure. I'm 84 years old and I don't know every rule and communication restriction you have. I did not use the site to send any youtube advertisements. The Youtube videos I placed on my site were strictly political. I thought we had free speech in our country but I know now with this new administration that it's only freedom of speech for them, not everyone else.

My wife and I will miss Marketplace but I'll not, after all these years, send a video. I've checked other family members and their facebook sites have not received this video request.

I was singled out because of my political views. I'm a veteran and have done my time in Vietnam fighting for this country and I'll not have my photo or video show up on the internet, after all, you admit there is a security problem or else you wouldn't be using the excuse that you need my video to verify who I am. If you don't know me by now, you never will. I've lived many years without facebook and can live without it again.

Bob, don't submit your video. It sounds like a fishy request. Is MAGA trolling people and trying to gain your information and picture to go after you? It's great that you are being very cautious.

It's anyone's guess but I don't trust them or anyone with my privacy. One has to wonder today if they really use the video to pass on to ICE or someone at DHC. I'm a veteran and 84 yrs. old, born and raised here but apparently from the news they don't really care who they pick up.

Yes or scare us. I don't scare easily. I survived Vietnam and other things and I'll get by with this. I'll miss taking to family and friends but there are other methods to communicate with them. I'm 84 yrs. old and not very good with computers, which I told them, I didn't know all they're rules an such. Anyway we move on. Thanks for your support though. It's nice to see that other people still have feelings for one another.

Their reply was to verify I wasn't an AI. I called them hypocrites on our CHAT because they use AI all the time to censure us. I told them I was concerned with my security and what they would do with my video. They said they could assure me that I was talking to a person. I told them to send me a video so I could verify who I was talking to. Of course that didn't happen. Our rights mean nothing to them anymore. Only meant something when FB was getting started. Now that they are rich and powerful, we are nothing and have no say. The only thing we can do is stop using Meta things like FB and Messenger to lower their income. They make their income every time you send a FB page to your family or friends you are sending them advertisement. They have so much money it would take thousands to cancel service to put a dent in their operation.

I'm 83 and know what could be and what was. Not what is now. Thank you for your service. I don't do Facebook, but know lots of people that do. Not my thing. I am not computer savey either, but just plug along. I do have opinions about what is happening today and want to leave this world a better place than it is today. Not the whole world, mostly, the USA. God Bless.

You are welcome: I understand what you mean and I let my political feeling be known and I believe that's a major reason they blocked me. I guess the truth was just too much for them. I felt like I served my country and had a right to express my dislikes as to the direction our country is now headed. You can't explain feeling to a robot and that's how they handled my account. I agree, this isn't the kind of world most of us want to live in but the rich and powerful have bought our government with they're big money in putting the leaders in office to serve their greedy needs. I knew years ago that Campaign Finance reform was drastically needed if we were going to turn our government around where we the people control whom we want to represent us. Now we have no choice.

You're being very smart. Any video like that, I would imagine, can be put into a data base and used for facial recognition at airports or points of entry to and from the country. No thank you. As much as they already have infiltrate our privacy with every smart device we own and all of the chip technology in our credit cards and magnetic strips on our driver's licenses why voluntarily give them anything else that they can use against us. And today I heard a normal-looking public USB-C Lightning cable can also spy on your laptop, phone, or tablet and collect our data. No, I say preserve as much privacy about yourself as you can. I wouldn't even use biometrics (fingerprint of facial recognition) to unlock my phone or laptop. I keep my cameras (facing me) on my cell phone and laptop covered when not in use.

Good for you!

So tell me how many millions and millions of dollars have to be wasted on security for the judges? All because Trump doesn’t like the law being applied!! Someone somewhere has got to put a stop to all this wasteful spending because of Trump and Elon!! They are going to run the debt over the cliff!!

Most of this, in particular the standing ovations at the Supreme Court, I did not know. Only Meidas+ is getting the truth to the American people:

“the first federal judge to declare Trump’s relentless attacks on an independent bar and legal professionals unconstitutional; the first federal judge to rule Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act unconstitutional and an abuse of power; the first standing ovation in the Supreme Court led by its Justices in defense of the Rule of Law during the Trump era; the first standing ovation given to a sitting Supreme Court Justice for her withering rebuke of Trump for attacking judges; and so much more at the intersection of law and politics.”

Expand full comment
Dik de Bruijn's avatar

A standing ovation by the Supreme Court Injustices is meaningless in the face of the support afforded Trump by Roberts, Alito, and Thomas, with Gorsuch, Barrett, and Kavanaugh joining in that support at times. Roberts is just trying to make himself and "his" court look good. They don't care about someone standing up to Trump as SCOTUS is probably the single greatest enabler of him.

When will someone total the amount of money these unlawful executive orders are costing the American taxpayers. We are paying for the DOJ to send lawyers to court knowing there is no valid constitutional defense. These order should be rejected on the grounds that spending the taxpayers money on defending them is fraud. The DOJ should not bother going to court or spending a dime of our money on these cases. Please calculate all the costs of illegal executive orders and report that to the public.

Don't forget the golf trips and birthday parade.

Expand full comment

That parade! After having said he wanted to cut the DOD budget by half! And after Trump eliminated a program that helps save a vet's home if they miss a couple of payments on a home loan rather then letting them move the payments to the end of their loan, and cutting funding and staffing levels at the VA, including psychiatric care, by insisting all doctors come into the workplace rather than do the helpful and efficient remote visits, AND canceled the suicide hotlines. How was that wasteful spending???

VETS, Canada has offered a suicide hotline in its place. Do not suffer alone. Reach out of you need it. You deserve it!

Historical FACT—

ONCE YOU PEACEFULLY INSTALL A FASCIST, YOU CANNOT PEACEFULLY REMOVE THEM

The “Untrustworthy Box of American Norms” are no match for a blatantly corrupt —out of control lawless Russian backed cabal….

aka The Republican Party—

Enemies Of The State

Why are they not treated as such?

Fighting GOP corruption using the institutions Democrats & WTP have allowed GOP to corrupt is nonsensical

It doesn’t matter how many court cases GOP loses when there is NO follow up of accountability-

Republicans have already successfully participated or been complicit in an insurrection w/the consequences being rewarding them with seats of power

Do I blve in the usual “American Judicial Process”

No intelligent adult would blve in a process that has failed the Country for over a decade

Whatever the courts say at this point is merely laughed at by Republicans…
