Thank you Ben & Michael!

Please critique and, if you concur, promote what I call the "Presidential Crimes Act."

Simply, the Act would establish the principle that a President is NOT IMMUNE from being held immediately accountable by the SAME Statutes that apply to EVERY OTHER US CITIZEN or FOREIGN NATIONAL.

The Act would entail a President, once indicted, would take a leave of absence until a verdict is rendered by a trial jury. Resigning from Office would not protect an indicted President from prosecution.

The VP would assume the duties of the President during that interval.

Impeachment for high crimes and misdemeanors would remain the Constitutional Obligation of the Congress.

The other key element of the Presidential Crimes Act would be to establish the Department of Justice (DOJ) as an INDEPENDENT entity.

All Senior members of the DOJ would be Nominated by an Independent Bipartisan Commission comprised of Legal Experts (aka "The DOJ Commission").

Terms of Service would, to the fullest extent possible, NOT be coincident with Presidential Terms of Office. Nominees would be Reviewed and Approved by a SUPER-MAJORITY of the US Senate.

The FBI Director & other Senior Appointees to the FBI would be similarly nominated by the Commission and Reviewed and Approved by the US Senate.

Neither the Leadership of the DOJ or the FBI would attend and otherwise participate in Presidential Cabinet Meetings and all contact with either the Executive, Legislative & Judicial Branches of the US Government would be transcribed and archived, immediately, with NARA. A Subcommittee of The DOJ Commission would have Oversight and Review Authority to ensure timely, accurate, and properly curated archival processes.

Well said and proposed. When sanity returns to the White House, Congress and the Senet, let's get your proposal into Federal law.

Yes, but it would be nice if Meidas did not lie in every title that the programs are "ad-free." There are always at least 2 or 3 ads in the middle of each of them for Popeks' private, for-profit law firm. That fits every definition of an advertisement.

If I have to look at an ad I don’t care because the news is the truth. They’re not lying about Trump’s dementia they’re not lying about the fraud. It appears to be. That’s the only place we can find. True news is on the services here I’ll take a couple ads for the truth.

Off the subject a bit, I saw that the deported Koreans at that Hyundai plant have resulted in complete work stoppage on that battery plant construction which will delay the creation of 8,500 jobs. That battery plant in GA was a direct result of Bidens bill too which is ironic. Katie Phang did a remarkable story on this subject and there are repercussions within the Korean government and other projects that have been stopped as well due to US ICE policies.

Trump was very popular with youths. They will learn about the consequences of their choices. Thus bizarre world is the only one they know.

Expand full comment
Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Evidence, please? He's not very popular with young women of any color (with good reason), and he's less popular with young Latinos (and Latinos in general) than he apparently was before the 2024 election -- again, for good reason. If by "youths" you mean "young white men," please say so.

Susan Bender's avatar

Why would I say that? I'm discussing voters between the ages of 18 and 21. The stats are out there. Trump was more popular than previous Republican presidential nominees. It boggles my mind that anyone would vote for him much less females and POC's, but they DID.
