Oh my goodness your comment resonates with me. I have been telling everyone I can that this situation is dreadful for survivors, not just of epstein and maxwell and trump but all survivor. Indeed, I just called my senators again to tell them to not let maxwell out of prison for even one moment and that it is shameful to have crowned her queen for a day. I worked with victims of sexual abuse for 30 some years and all of this is also hard on me because it brings up all the memories of those I failed....I know I could not protect kids who were already victimized but it was rare to be able to prevent those perpetrators from perping again. I know it was not me that failed them but the system, but I still feel it was me. One case in particular haunts me....I'd worked with a young teenager who had moved here from another state. She had to go back there to testify against the person who molested her and I got to go with her each time and got to know her pretty well, and that prosecution was successful and the guy went to prison. So that's a feel good story. For a while....the counselor in her school was aware of the abuse and I guess she shared with the principal and he eventually molested her too. He also went to prison, but not after he did so much more damage to her and others. After that incident there was a lot of talk that that principal had been encouraged to leave the school he'd been out before coming to ours...such a typical story..folks knew he was an abuser and did nothing. And then there were the kids, not many thank goodness, but too many, who were placed in foster care and molested there..... I've been retired for 15 years but nothing has changed. We used to tell kids if they would testify it could help prevent other kids from being abused, even though we knew chances of the perp going to prison were pretty slim, and that seems to be even truer today. I want you to know that yes thousands of us feel the same way you do, probably thousands have been victims (folks that study this stuff feel at least 20-25% of all women have been the victim of an attempted or completed rape, so that means chances are lots of women in this group are victims, and those number only refer to rape not fondling, forcing to do oral sex or other actions). I admire your strength and resolve to make the world a better place and I sure understand your exhaustion. I'm trying to do a few things, at least one a day that are more on the positive side like calling the Dems who are out there meeting with the public in red districts, and who are calling out trump and when I get a real person answering the phone they are very appreciative of the kind words...I guess they get a lot of hate too. And for sure, you are not alone.

This acceptance of sexual abuse of girls scares me even more than the rounding up and beating of immigrants because I have teenage grand daughters and I just don't know how to protect them when and entire political party says it's fine for anyone to abuse them. I eventually took early retirement because of a child fatality we investigated and the murdered was from a good family in the community and got off scot free. I couldn't take any more and had nightmares about the pictures of the 3 year old he killed for years and years. I was surprised anyone ever stayed at the job since it was so hard...not just the work itself but the fact that the community did not support us...no matter what we did we were wrong..put a child in foster care you're wrong, leave a child in an abusive home, you're wrong....don't prevent sex abuse even though there was no way to anticipate it and you're at fault...we were supposed to be all knowing and all seeing. And then the pushback of folks blaming the victim...yeah it's a pretty rough job.
