MeidasTouch host Ben Meiselas sits down with Congressman Jared Moskowitz for a must-watch conversation on GOP chaos, Trump's manufactured distractions, and the Democrats' strategy to counter Republican obstruction. WHy can’t California just hold its immense federal income tax revenue until they are have a commitment for the federal funds in disaster reliease?

How are all those California employers going to stop the federal withholdings from paychecks.

Expand full comment
Sharon M. Morrison's avatar

True that. California could sue for breach of contract. The agreement was that states would send a certain oercentage of their citizens’ income to the federal government in return for which the federal government would maintain the “general welfare”. Calif. sent the tax revenue, but the feds didn’t send funds consistent with other disasters.

We can't expect purity -- we have to be pragmatic and use common sense. So if Fetterman wants to meet with Trump, so what... he is trying to get what he can for his state. If he actually votes against the American people, then we get upset...We have to act on reality not what we think is happening. Trump gives us enough to be angry about.

Farleft purists will continue to make that argument against him, but I agree with you, we need to have at least Unity on the fronts that matter, not call out someone for one position or another (sorry Palestinians) that we don't agree with. Oops, HOW many dead babies?

It' s not that the Biden administration didn't communicate. It's that most people in this country have the attention span of a fleas and are suffering from universal amnesia. They are attracted to the biggest lie, rather than the biggest truth. The Dear Leader is not at "communicator." He is a lying huckster who babbles and makes no sense. People are distracted by his constant gimmicks and tricks. This says more about the failure of the American voter than it does about the Dear Leader's abilities.

You are so right. Good, steady, honest, caring people are oh, so boring. Not convicted of adjudicated rape, not convicted of interfering with an election, not accused, and would have been indicted of inciting a riot to overthrow the confirmation of a president if Jack Smith had been allow to proceed...what fun is it to have an honest man in the White House when a country can have a full blown criminal? A felonious carnival barker is what he is and we will pay the price for all those yokels who bought the snake oil.

I truly think this a ruse. As Congressman Moskowitz said, it's to control "shrinkage." That's one way to look at it. But the Convict-in-Chief is all about optics and I think that the word is out; people, as they see , start to experience, the cluster f*ck the adjudicated rapist is creating, at their expense, they would prefer to go to the opening of a letter than to be seen paying homage to the felon.

I think the media is partially to blame for bad messaging of Biden’s accomplishments. He had good unemployment numbers, kept inflation in check, passed the infrastructure bill and much more but the press and media were more interested in the outrageous ramblings of the demented candidate. There was a double standard. It’s the reason I cancelled my subscriptions to The New York Times and The Washington Post. Add to that the 24/7 lies of Fox News and anyone would have trouble getting their message and accomplishments to the people. I’m surprised you can’t see that Congressman. Biden and Harris bashing will not help us save democracy. Calling out Trump and Republican bull 💩will. I’m here on Substack to help fight the good fight and I heard you mention some good ideas today but bashing the home team isn’t helpful. You’ll notice Republicans don’t do that. Let’s take that page from their playbook.

Traditional media is going the way of the dodo bird. I believe it's because really good solid FACTUAL reporting is expensive (and can't usually work at the pace digital / any social media works - accuracy often falling by the wayside). They're just trying to survive so it's just clicks that they're after. They see how faux has done well with just clicks, so....... and who really cares about facts?? Plus, the big ones are owned by all the wrong people who feel the need to appease youknowwho as they strategize for even more billions for themselves. Flourishing oligarchy is what we have here. (It's been in play for years but only recently pulled into the spotlight.) If you were suggesting that Jared was doing the Biden/Harris bashing I'd say I saw it differently. It is true that their communication & marketing skills were lacking. OK. Learn from that and move on. I am tired of complaining about the past and now just want to move forward in ways that we can minimize whatever danger may be lurking. I like Jared's overall pragmatism & energy. We need more like him. We have them; we need to give them more power and support. The old ways no longer work. The older generation at the federal level is too far removed from the realities of younger generations.

The Democratic Party all have better stay united together as a team every single day. the Dems all should do immediately is have a spine grow that spine and have a backbone come up with excellent secret plans strategies every single day to rebuild that trust in the voters that they all have lost recently. Dems should do immediately is start doing a better job of messaging communicating to all of us and to all of their constituents. Dems should be more focusing on getting the truth out to the American People about the disinformation about Trump Musk Vance Vikek the wealthy and the rest of MAGA's lies hatred anger and the fear that they all have been and still are putting in the supporters who voted for Trump. This is what Dems all should be doing every single day staying focus and staying busy. This is the only way. There is no other way again this is the only way that the Dems all will make a huge comeback in the Midterms in 2026, taking back control both of the house of representatives and the senate as for the Presidency and the U.S. supreme court the Dems all have to work even more harder by making sure that they stick to their ideas solutions and being more in touch with the American People. If Dems do all of these things every single day immediately, they will win. But the Dems have better stay united together as a team every single day. Because united we stand divided, we fall. Does that make sense?

I understand what you are thinking MM Harris. However, Denmark and Greenland have made it perfectly clear on Meidas Touch that there is no way either country would allow that. trump wants to be putin and in his sick mind that means going to war with a NATO ally.

Expand full comment
MM Harris's avatar

Oh,YES. I know that and LOVE they way they immediately pushed back and will continue to do so. I think Jared is trying to establish / maintain some sort of "equilibrium" not just for himself but for us, so there isn't always a knee jerk negative reaction to every single move the new administration puts out. There HAVE been a few things trump has done that Biden agreed with or continued & vice versa. I think it's important to consider every idea with an open mind (and eyes wide open). Otherwise you may be overlooking any opportunity for reconsideration or negotiation. It's also a way to keep communication open, which is essential, while maintaining a professional atmosphere, also essential. And that's the only reason I think Jared used the "buy (that country) if all parties agree" idea because it was an example of a reasonable way to think about all possibilities re any issue so you don't get stuck on only one perspective (and possibly change the direction the original issue was going in). May sound goofy; may be totally off track and not at all what was on his mind; just my own reaction..

Expand full comment
Kelley Selby's avatar

Hello MM Harris, thank you for the reply. I understand what you are saying. there is no negotiating with a dictator. Until the democrats realize that, they cannot fight back. If anyone thinks trump would negotiate with any democrat they are mistaken. Democrats have to take a hard line that they will not cross and stop believing trump will somehow come around. He will not.

Also Moskowitz said several times Trump is a “master at” could be the greatest “master” ever of sales. (Jared (dem) with the sales assist) Then he says the Biden admin was “the worst in modern American history” of sales/communication. (Jared (dem) with another assist to the “master” at sales.) I remember when the Red Cross had a huge fund from donations from Hurricane Katrina. They were sued and forced to earmark the funds for that one disaster. It created a huge surplus and they weren’t able to apply it to other emergencies. It threw their budget way out of balance. Domestic disaster aid cannot be tied to spending bills that are conditional on a bunch of different things. Disaster relief has to be a standalone bill.

Great to hear Moskowitz call it the way he sees it, but until he's ready to call, for example, Paul Goats-ass, sorry GOSAR, "a fucking idiot" he's just not playing on their level, nor will he engage the increasingly intellectually-impaired electorate.

I love he knows they lost the communication war and I love he knows how to play going forward. I HOPE HE’S GONNA BE A FIREBRAND on the messaging. They need SO DESPERATELY!!!!

Great interview. I like his thinking. I like his energy. I like that he and like-minded colleagues already have plans in place. I KNOW we're in for some major slogging through muck and mud, but he makes me feel a little better.

And Obama's inauguration: And he had top-tier musicians and their priceless musical instruments! Later didn't we discover that they were actually "lip-synching" their performances, because humans CAN survive such cold, but not violins and cellos?

Got Netflix? Check out short (40 mins?) documentary "The Only Girl in the Orchestra". She played the double base (that big huge one) beginning back in the day when girls were not allowed to do things like that. These instruments are made of wood & VERY finicky regarding temperature, even indoors. True story, interesting and fun.

I've seen "shrinkage" in all it's forms from MAGAT's! People like Mace, MFG, Jordan, etc., have shrunk in all aspects! Let's follow them as they get trampled by the OLIGARCHY! 🤣

To be fair, JFK did have portable heaters. There's a story about one of the heaters malfunctioning.

That's right! As Carl Sandberg was reciting a poem he wrote for the occasion. The Convict-in-Chief knows that no one would be there unless they had to be and no sensible citizen is going to gather on the Mall the way they did for JFK - this felon is well, a felon. Don't usually go to stare at convicts, unless they are behind bars.

Congressman Moskowitz, good to have you on the show. I've got a lot to discuss, but I got to ask you, why are you wearing this jacket? You're indoors right now.
