You can blame the pandemic and greed but the truth is trump is the one that cut safeguards and programs to implement his greed and those that orbit around him.

Patricia Branton's avatar

Trump, in addition, was way too worried about test results making HIM look bad (so stop conducting Covid tests). Watching trump advocate for less testing because too many people with Covid caused people to not think of trump as the most incredible human who ever lived as opposed to saving lives should have been more telling than it was at the time. I mean, Trump’s ego is more important than finding solutions to the epidemic? Why did that make sense to anyone?

Yup, and now the same thing is happening with the measles outbreaks. This was a disease that was practically unheard of in the US for many years, thanks to immunizations.

I really get sick to my stomach when I hear that some feel herd immunity is their answer. Stupid. Very stupid.

With the current admin. railing on about their false and misleading health info, you voice is sorely needed. Thank you both for being there for us.

Thanks for including health reporting. Trump et al. are anti-education, anti-intellectual, anti-science. They want to go back to the dark ages, and can't distinguish truth from their fictions. Our country needs sober, intelligent, uncompromised, forward-looking, respected scientists and experts in charge of CDC, NIH, research grants, vaccine recommendations, public health, environmental assessment. We need public education, and health care for all. If/when another pandemic comes, the country needs to be ready.

Dean Hill's avatar

The thing is there will be another pandemic, mainly because this administration is breaking down all the safeguards that Obama and Biden built.

Patricia Branton's avatar

And our country WON’T be ready thanks to trump/musk eliminating the CDC etc. we have to win the midterms and cripple trump’s ridiculous anti science, anti knowledge agenda.

more of this please. thank you MTN

Thanks for addressing the plague of misinformation surrounding the use of vaccines. People need to be reminded of how the arrival of vaccines blunted the deadly impact of the pandemic.

Thanks Dr. Gupta & Dr. Topol for this highly informative and timely episode of Meidas Health. Everyone should share this episode widely after viewing it.

I believe Dr. Oz is a perfect example of a physician giving advice for a product he is raving about. The weight loss hacks that at the end of his 45 minute rant has him marketing pills after he claimed he would reveal the recipe for a “mixture of products you have in your own kitchen”. And then instead of listing any recipe, he’s selling capsules for an exorbitant price. Oprah does the same thing, but she is not a physician our president raves about. This is wrong, wrong, wrong!

When you have some one like RFK jr, or Dr. OZ. They're not real doctors. Dr. OZ and Dr. Phil lost their licences to practice last century. They never went back to the boards and to re take the tests that would qualify them to be; 'Real doctors'. My advice if you have a family doctor or go to a clinic near you, take their advice. Whatever whenever Trump gets involved you know that's not a good thing. As far a pandemic goes, it's still around. Many of my friends have a mild case but it's still a btch to have. If you have children, please get them vaccinated. I know when I was a child I wasn't allowed to go to school unless I had the vaccines and had to bring proof to the principal of the school.

I’m old enough to have participated in ‘vaccine programs’ wherein public health wound come to the schools and give shot after shot to get everyone immunized.

Yes, and I went with my mom to see my paediatrician every year before school started. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to attend.

I will never use anything advised by trump!

I appreciate the cautions discussed in your conversation. I'm wondering what you know about integrative medicine (see Cleveland Clinic) that researches and includes some naturopathic and homeopathic, Chinese and ayurvedic along with standard American medical treatments. Our system seems to include only surgery or chemical treatments. It seems we should explore these ancient practices and learn from them.

Protect the Vote's avatar

There are biological energy sciences as you point out that should have standing with our current biological matter field science and contemporary physicians are not schooled in both which is detrimental to the practice of 21st century medicine

LNT's avatar

Dr. Gupta, would you use this suggestion for a future episode?

Eleanor Waves's avatar

Most of those things you discuss have been scientifically studied. If they were superior, everyone would be using them. If coffee enemas cured cancer, every oncologist would be using them.

I would trust info from Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic. I have gotten regular medical assessment through Medicare, and a nutritional assessment from an integrated medical practitioner whose office also offers (no insurance) regenerative medical care, the same as the vaunted Steadman Clinic for orthopedics/joints. I get supplements from an excellent local naturopath (again, out of pocket). I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as I approach age 73. I am very happy to know the many things that I don't have! Do Pilates twice a week.

Who, in their right mind, thinks that when the immigrant "bodies" are eliminated, that the private businesses running these camps won't demand more internees to keep the camps full and their profits flowing?

And who do you think these internees will be?

They will be you and me. Our families. Our friends. Or neighbors. Whole towns even, like in Nazi-controlled Poland and Eastern Europe.

I expect crematoriums to be the next item on the budget.

Sorry to disagree with some folks who say that if XYZ worked as a cancer cure or cure for this or that disease it would be in widely regular use routine practice. I completely disagree. The MEDICAL/INDUSTRIAL-PHARMACEUTICAL COMPLEX does not want cancer & other diseases completely cured or eradicated. CURES WOULD BANKRUPT THEIR LUCRATIVE HEINOUS COMPANIES! If a cost effective cure for most or all cancers was made known med schools & pharma and related would go bankrupt. The grifting in the US Medical/Health Care/Insurance biz is ripping off the American taxpayer and the government. In 1985 restrictions for TV commercials for pharmaceuticals was "loosened" a bit, but still controlled what was permitted. In 1997 the FDA opened wide the dam unleashing DTC advertising for pharmaceutical drugs on network TV. One of the worst things ever. BIG PHARMA is part of the military industrial complex that the late great Ike Eisenhower sternly & gravely warned us of. Sadly, we did not heed his warning.

My experience with statins is this. I was resistant to trying them and my first experience was not good. I found that for me, my feet hurt so bad that I could hardly walk so I quit taking the one that I was prescribed. A few years later, I decided to try a different one (there are many). Now, my cholesterol is so ridiculously low, good numbers are high and bad numbers are low so I'd tell people to try a different one.

Barb O's avatar

Though a skeptic, I've tried two. Both with bad side effects. I have a background in health care and have reasonable knowledge of how to evaluate research. Given that, I went on a search to find studies that used a significant number of participants that reflected me: female, non-smoker, active, lower fat diet, not hypertensive, weighed within the same 10 pounds as when a teen and not overweight, over 60. And no diabetes. Familial high cholesterol was my only sin. Less than 270 and always a good ratio and HDL. You know how many I found after a long search? None. I did, however, find studies that pointed to longevity in patients in Japan and Scandinavian countries with similar profiles and "high" cholesterol. My point. There will always be outliers. You must decide for yourself.

Why was there zero mention what the government is doing to legit chronic pain patients and hospice patients in this country that have been suffering in horrific pain due to the governments prop led bullshit on this fake war on opioids prescriptions! No evidence based information and all lies surrounding the fentanyl epidemic being caus

As a child, I remember standing in line for the polio vaccine. It brought such relief for families and was very successful. These days, I participate in vaccines each season. That being said, I am also cautious of information from pharmaceutical companies. And I have used AI for my health information because it gives me more scientific information that any doctor has. Recently, I had to remind my doctor that the prescription he gave me would be dangerous because I have low blood pressure. This is clearly stated in my medical files. He left the room, and returned with an apology...I was correct. When I asked a nurse if they used AI at this hospital, I found they did not. This is a huge nation-wide medical facility. Consumers also have a history of experiences with unnecessary meds and operations. I love the personnel in the front lines of medicines. Sadly, I do not trust pharmaceutical companies. I was also told I had a stroke, it was actually a reaction from nerve damage from a dental infection. My hearing declined tremendously during the last three years, leaving me with a loss of 50% in one ear. I paid thousands of dollars on hearing aids...yet, it was AI that mentioned the roll of the eustachian tubes. I found a device online that completely restored my hearing in a matter of weeks.

These are confusing times and the political climate is amplifying a lack of trust in corporations-including medicine. It is also a time when people are leaning to take control of their own lives, instead of believing everything they are told in the media. Are we blaming the public for their resistance instead of addressing the issue of a lack of trust? I am pro vaccines. I am also one who takes responsibility for my own decisions. That's a frightening but necessary challenge.

Barb O's avatar

Yes, but you appear to be smart enough to find and interpret the data. Many are not.

Ann Lannin's avatar

That’s true. Which is why ignorance is showing it’s ugly face right now. Our educational system has been hijacked by corporate training instead of individual discernment. I left school at the age of 17. It took this long for me to understand what is happening. Which is why I don’t totally blame the individual for being kept in ignorance. Some of it is generational. Some of it is deliberate. We are learning to see the difference -the hard way.
