I also watch posting by the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Justice Matters speaker Glenn Kirschner, Senator Adam Schiff and Hakeem Jeffries. Elizabeth Warren and Jamie Raskin. All these are stalwarts, people who stand for justice, democracy, truth, equality.

I also watch all of these. Also Bryan Tyler Cohen, and Heather Cox Richardson for really illuminating historical/political perspective. I'm counting on all of you to stay connected with each other if only in good spirit - we need all the hands on deck that we can get, and the democracy we're fighting for includes every voice, especially friendly and supportive ones. Thanks for all you do, Meidas Bros - important (might I say crucial) work.

Hey he did better than Schumer. Jeffries kept his caucus together and as a bloc, they voted NO. Schumer is a Vichy Dem and a total invertebrate. Time for new Senate leadership!

CJ's avatar

Schumer made the mistake of not stating his position and the reasoning behind it, right up front from the start. Although I don't agree with him, his flip flop has destroyed his credibility and looked weak.

Mack's avatar

And Schumer planning a personal book tour while the United States is burning down is really idiotic and tone deaf. He is old and out of touch and appears to be more interested in cashing in on his "prominence" in the Senate instead of working for the "little" people of the USA. I guess he wants to be remembered as Leona Helmsley.

I totally agree. Who would want to LEGALLY give unencumbered power to Trump in a shutdown??? It's been hard enough when we have legal recourse on our side. I think his big mistake was not getting that message out early and often. It was almost like he didn't want Trump and the Republicans to realize the power they would have if the government shutdown, because then Republicans would shut it down themselves. It was really quite tricky to navigate.

Janet Wilson's avatar

I don't understand this comment, and it pops up everywhere. What specifically is it you think he is failing to do? He speaks regularly, appears on multiple platforms, objects to Republican policy and advocates for the American people. He did not want to vote Yes to the recent CR in front of Congress.

So what in your opinion would be "effectual"? Particularly given he does not control any of the executive branches of power.

HJ is bought by AIPAC, his biggest donor, so he completely ineffectual against Israel's genocide against the Palestinian PEOPLE.

When asked if Schumer should be replaced, he could not go against party top dogs.

Top donors:

AIPAC

Blackrock

Lockheed Martin

MetLife.

HJ had no plan to respond in real time to Trump's congressional speech.

HJ has no plan to be a disruptor. Look where there Dems are in the polls. How is THAT working out.

While HJ SAYS that he supports Medicare-For-All, what did he ever do to enact it? The party leadership would refuse to approve it.

Canadian here. Why does everyone expect Democrats to be effectual in the Middle East? It is a complicated war between two nations that has been burning in the pot all my life...but there is this constant expectation that America, and specifically Democrats, can step in a fix it up overnight. And what specifically did Jeffries fail to do that would have been effectual.

Hey Ben. I am a 63 year old grandma. I am not adept at posting anything other than this written messaging and I am not alone.

What can I/we do to pull older folks into this who had trouble like me even finding and getting on this Substack? Some of us want to add more than just written content. We want to add to this important challenge with wisdom and support, not just fight-fight-fight.

Some of us like me need an education about social media. I am in this for the poor, confused, hurting people who believed the lies the present regime has spewed who need a safe place to heal. I believe, Ben, this can be that place, and is to an extent.

There is an emotional element connected with these issue of lies that needs something deeper. Maybe a group show with a professional talking about deprogramming. And tutorials on how to use social media to be more effective to getting the message of freedom out.

I’m not a great writer, but this is just some of the issues I see and asking for help to help others, that’s all.

Thank you for giving your life for our country in the ways you do.

Blessing.
