There’s a strange quiet before a tide turns. Not silence—but the kind of stillness that listens.

When approval ratings wobble and narratives collide, we’re not just watching politics—we’re watching a nation mirror itself. A reckoning not just with one man, but with memory, media, and meaning.

The numbers matter, yes. But it’s the story beneath them—the slow erosion of myth, the recalibration of trust—that carries weight.

What happens when enough people look again, and see something different?

Small acts ripple. Quiet generosity in action. The math of compassion is always unfolding.

Musk says that the fundamental weakness of Western Civilization is empathy. As usual, the exact opposite is true, and is playing out every day. Musk, Trump, and their soulless minions are collapsing in real time under the weight of public outrage and overwhelming resistance to their fascist fantasies.

The sickening reports of FEMA turning down disaster aid to states hit hard by natural disasters.........Satan and his evil spirts are proud of Musk' lack of empathy for humanity. Hades is overjoyed by the Trump regime.

Will Maga choose to drimk the Satanic Orange Kool-Aid or will they see the light?

The only thing that will break the silence of the calm before the storm are the voices of millions in the streets..from coast to coast........week in and week out........demanding that Satanic darkness is defeated and the light of Democracy lives.

Red-staters (God bless 'em) pay taxes like all other Americans - and owing to Republican policies and dogma get less back for their contributions than do blue-staters - that has a LOT to do with why blue states are more productive and prosperous, but that's another discussion. When a tornado flattens a red state town - or one is flooded - the citizens therein EXPECT the government to lend a hand getting them back on their feet. Why? Because they PAID THEIR DAMN TAXES for exactly that - and that's ALWAYS the first thing out of their mouths - "I paid my taxes - where's the help?" Now that disaster assistance is being purposely WITHHELD from red states - they must have been released from their obligation to pay taxes to pay for same - right? OF COURSE NOT - they are STILL on the hook - STILL paying - and NOT getting any help. You think that might begin to feel like a knife in the back? Like a rip-off? A betrayal? Damn straight! Because it is! Republican office-holders clearly think they can get away with this kind of stick-up and not be made to pay for it. I'm guessing they're mistaken - NO ONE will sit still for that for long...

I agree, but wish to add: Blue states are generally more productive because of their policies favoring helping each other, increased tolerance, leverageing everybody's ability to contribute (not just a specific race and gender). Encouraging education, helping people be healthy through cleaner air, land, water... and medical care. In general, blue states pay more in federal taxes than red states. In general, blue states pay more in federal taxes than they get back from the federal government, whereas Red states get more than they give. There are lots of people who like to live in their states. I assume each has their values and properties that appeal to the people living there, and so suggest that when we talk about other states, we consider listening rather than demonizing, and helping in every way we can, without being pushy about it. If somebody comes to you and offers to help, I get it that you look with suspicion. And nobody wants to be told they are not bright. But consider that many of those people studied hard, learned a lot, just so they could be of help, so they could offer better ways of doing things. You don't always need to accept advice, but it is usually wise to listen to it and thank them for offering it.

Trump has never exhibited any kind of empathy, though I do agree that dementia has already set in and it will only get worse. Trump is a 9-point malignant, passive/aggressive narcissist from my point of view and you can't get any more of a narcissist than meeting all 9 points of the diagnosis for narcissistic personality disorder.

Narcissists do not age well. As they get older, they are more easily manipulated. They cannot keep up their fake facade of caring very well, if at all. They are unable to keep all the balls in the air at the same time and keep everyone in their circle gaslighted. The cracks in his narcissism are showing more every day as he does not know what is going on around him. He does not strategically manipulate people. He is letting people steal the spotlight from him for longer periods of time than he would have when he was younger. His decision making is erratic and he has a tough time remembering what he has already done, which means he will contradict it over and over as his memory continues to decline.

Seen it before in a close relative. It's Karma in my book. What goes around comes around and what comes around to a narcissist is the same crap they dished out while they were getting old.

I agree with you Craig. What I am wondering though, is how do you see this happening? How do we 'fix things beyond what they did?' You might agree that what we are experiencing now is the culmination of 4 decades of planning. I have been trying to put out there that we need a plan, not just to protest but to tell people what we actually want, people, not just candidates but also people so that we can come to an agreement on what we do want. How can we fix this including project 2025 without actually writing our own document and sticking to it? I have been beating this drum for a month now putting out what I think and asking others to agree or disagree and the response, at least to the methods I have been using, Facebook pro-democracy groups, my blog Patrick's politics from 80,000 feet, comments to nearly all the independent media leaders and followers, has been bupkis, Zero interest, no involvement, Nada, squat. I did just look at it. I agree with a lot of what he is saying. Wish I could talk to him. I do feel like he is not talking about the level of reform that I believe has to happen for those three goals of his to be met. The most important of which is getting the money out of politics. They did talk about the Democratic party's comment that "our billionaires are better than their billionaires". This is the heart of the BS. This is what stands in the way of effective government; I believe. I guess I just don't in my deepest heart believe that the democratic party is up to it. Even his comment about the idea that democrats will never come up with their own project 2025. That 'we' just aren't like that. I think he is correct in that about the Democratic Party but I guess I just think that is a losing idea. For instance, I look at my own children who are now in their mid thirties and early forties. My son has never voted despite my almost demanding... which never works. Not because he doesn't care but because he is so pissed off at the status quo on both sides and always has been. Or, my daughter who is now an NP and who responds to organization, leadership in crisis, having a plan and executing it. She is not going to just go along and hope it works out. She is not going to accept a choice that is based on personality or a single person's promise. I live an hour south of Traverse City. Perhaps I should go try to bump into him though I would probably get arrested for the attempt. That bubble the famous and influential live in is real. I experienced some of it even as a Doctor. People reacted to me as if I was isolated. Perhaps I was.

Im not sure myself. I hope that we re-examine laws that allow a convicted criminal beyond a misdemeanor to run for any public office. Demand that the Supreme Court reconsider the absolute power of the President ruling. I hope enough backlash exists for a Project 2025 type of approach gets scuttled. I would hope that the power of the tariff is given b ack to Congress. But we can't go back to all the stuff we did before either. Reasonable government size, enhanced tax recovery for wealthy folks and businesses. Eliminate the Citizens United ruling. Donation limits to candidates. Getting real Republicans back would be a help.

Expand full comment
Patrick Munson MI's avatar

You know. I truly wish it would work like that... But the words re-examine, Demand, and Backlash don't have any actual grounding that I can perceive. Trump has Supreme Court granted immunity and thinks nothing of violating laws. His excuse is always another lie. Congress is not taking back its power and it has had 100 days to do so. Eliminating citizens united means taking a stance against money. Donation limits already exist they just create work arounds to influence candidates with money. Consider reading the second Goal I wrote up in the entry 25 Pro-democracy goals of my substack Patrick's politics from 80,000 feet. and tell me if you think anything less would actually work.
