Switzerland 🇨🇭 minimum wage is 30 dollars an hour. They have universal health care with an option of health insurance that they regulate in order not to abuse the system or the citizens. They have mandatory vacation time. They have no mass shootings.

Meanwhile, America 🇺🇸 has mass shootings to the point where children spend half their lives practicing drills instead of learning. Also, while seeing its citizens as disposable property and not worthy of health care. They allow billions the ultra rich to break the rules and do whatever they fucking want. While our minimum wage is still 7.25. This is why the American people have such a disadvantage from the rest of first world countries. So this original BIG LIE that America is great is a fantasy. They've been feeding us bullshit since day one. When we can match the benefits that Switzerland 🇨🇭 and the rest of the European 🇪🇺 countries have. Then I can proudly say it is great. But right now it's a POS country. Americans need to open their eyes 👀 and see that others have it way better than us. And fight for rights!

Thank you. Every LAST word you said is the ABSOLUTE truth. This country (even the piece of shit billionaires) would benefit if we had HEALTHY bodies in excellent health. People are more productive, and they just might think of a solution to make the rich even RICHER. But they're so freaking short-sighted that they get in their own way. But I think people are waking up. I feel it.

Thank you for sharing such a painful memory.

I bought a FIRST EDITION of BETRAYED & could not read it thoroughly...

I appreciate the authors who recorded such abuse for history needed to do so, but the extermination is beyond comprehension.

Let's continue together to speak out.

All of the painful parallels are here now. Disappearing people, arresting with no cause, no DUE PROCESS, removing to other nations, targeting groups - anyone who is 'different' - dark complexion, TRANS....

Senator Schiff said on Colbert that his colleagues tell him they are just plain scared of trump, that they fear for their jobs and their safety and many report having received threats to themselves and their families. I don't buy that at all. They can always resign. I think they know it's better to be thought of as a coward than as a truly bad person, and they know that what they support is truly bad. I hope none of them attend a church where the preacher praises God for the cruelty to the persons in the detention centers/concentration camps, and I think if you go to just about any church you have to know supporting trump and his cruelty, his lies and his unjust economic policies is just plain bad and evil

Contempt is a good description of how I feel. There have been times in my life when I believed in a person only to find out they were not at all what I thought, much to my disappointment. And for me, and I believe for many people that is a very painful discovery. I no longer trust my judgement. One of those person was Lisa Murkowski (although not to the degree this happened with a few other folks). I always thought she was a right leaning decent human being who brought an honest perspective on women's rights to the Senate. boy was I wrong wrong wrong. Now she appears to be not on ly a sell-out coward but a stupid one at that...saying she's surprised she was "cheated". Either she is lying in that she was not surprised at all or she's the dumbest person in Congress if she believed trump would not stab her in the back. But I imagine she will continue to support all he wants because it turns out that is who she is not. I've always know Susan Collins was worthless but I hope thousands of voters in Maine are now realizing that. I have read that the drop in tourism has really hurt Maine but I don't know if all the other trump policies she supports have/will hurt Maine...and I hope thousands of her constituents see through her "no" vote on the budget...she knew it would pass without her vote and she only hoped to gain some credibility with her voters. Let's hope they are smart enough to see through that! And I believe they are all taking the heat just fine...they don't have to meet with constituents, and as long as they get the pat on the head from trump all is good. Except to be honest, my MOCs are in fact more trumpist than trump and at least with my Congressman the voters adore him (we are the poorest district in MO, and let's face it, poverty does go hand in hand with no critical thinking skills).

REPUBLICANS - the WEALTHY - were so threatend by OBAMA who threatened UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE that they organized to OPPOSE, OBSTRUCT & FIGHT - NEVER COMPROMISE!

Why would the WEALTHY support paying for something - anything of value - for the nation? They oppose education - an educated electorate can't be manipulated. Why should they pay for HEALTH CARE when those who can't afford it will DIE? Why fight for lower prescription costs? The poor will just DIE because they can't afford DRUGS like INSULIN.

First day in office TRUMP issued an EXECUTIVE ORDER rescinding BIDEN's DRUG COST LOWERING INITIATIVES - PROJECT 2025 does not care about PEOPLE!

SLASHING FOOD PROGRAMS? How IRRATIONAL unless you don't care about HUNGRY KIDS.

MAGA GOP were put in office by the WEALTHY & are beholden & spineless, lest they lose their cushy positions with freebies like HEALTH CARE.

PRESIDENT BIDEN increased IRS AGENTS who were auditing the WEALTHY TAX CHEATS...they pay so little in TAXES but still CHEAT?

TRUMP, DOGSH*T slashed those agents!

They don't want YOU to vote...that would be DEMOCRACY! So they continue to threaten VOTING - eliminate MAIL-IN BALLOTS, ELIMINATE EARLY VOTING, SUPPORT VOTER PURGES,

There are at least 2 books I highly recommend...BRIAN TYLER COHEN wrote SHAMELESS that explained the REPUBLICAN evolution into nothing more than LIARS...

The other is DARK MONEY BY JANE MAYER who explained how DIRTY ENERGY KOCH united the WEALTHY to destroy DEMOCRACY & their tactics - notice how many sites with innocent sounding names are ANONYMOUS? You don't know who's funding them...when her book was published, of course she was stalked & threatened.

(One of the KOCHs ran for office & PROJECT 2025 is precisely what he proposed.)

There are a multitude of other books, many available from your PUBLIC LIBRARY if you still have one.

Also put CRAIG UNGER's numerous books on your list.

The information available from BOOKS is far too complicated to post a SOUND BYTE.

DAVID CAY JOHNSTON wrote 2 BOOKS about TRUMP'S CASINOS.

Let's work together to INFORM OTHERS & support DEMOCRACY!

It really is TIME FOR MEDICARE FOR ALL, among numerous other things.

Other nations have FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE...why not the US?

Other nations provide CHILD CARE..why not the US?

WHY ARE MAGA REPUBLICANS denying FOOD TO FAMILIES?

THIS IS KOCH'S AGENDA:

Koch 1980 platform (corruption): “We urge the repeal of federal campaign finance laws, and the immediate abolition of the despotic Federal Election Commission.”

“We favor the abolition of Medicare and Medicaidprograms.”

“We oppose any compulsory insurance or tax-supported plan to provide health services, including those which finance abortion services.”

“We also favor the deregulation of the medical insurance industry.”

“We favor the repeal of the fraudulent, virtually bankrupt, and increasingly oppressive Social Security system. Pending that repeal, participation in Social Security should be made voluntary.”

“We propose the abolition of the governmental Postal Service. The present system, in addition to being inefficient, encourages governmental surveillance of private correspondence. Pending abolition, we call for an end to the monopoly system and for allowing free competition in all aspects of postal service.”

“We oppose all personal and corporate income taxation, including capital gains taxes.”

“We support the eventual repeal of all taxation.”

“As an interim measure, all criminal and civil sanctions against tax evasion should be terminated immediately.”

“We support repeal of all law which impede the ability of any person to find employment, such as minimum wage laws.”

“We advocate the complete separation of education and State. Government schools lead to the indoctrination of children and interfere with the free choice of individuals. Government ownership, operation, regulation, and subsidy of schools and colleges should be ended.”

“We condemn compulsory education laws … and we call for the immediate repeal of such laws.”

“We support the repeal of all taxes on the income or property of private schools, whether profit or non-profit.”

“We support the abolition of the Environmental Protection Agency.”

“We support abolition of the Department of Energy.”

“We call for the dissolution of all government agencies concerned with transportation, including the Department of Transportation.”

“We demand the return of America's railroad system to private ownership. We call for the privatization of the public roads and national highway system.”

“We specifically oppose laws requiring an individual to buy or use so-called "self-protection" equipment such as safety belts, air bags, or crash helmets.”

“We advocate the abolition of the Federal Aviation Administration.”

“We advocate the abolition of the Food and Drug Administration.”

“We support an end to all subsidies for child-bearing built into our present laws, including all welfare plans and the provision of tax-supported services for children.”

“We oppose all government welfare, relief projects, and ‘aid to the poor’ programs. All these government programs are privacy-invading, paternalistic, demeaning, and inefficient. The proper source of help for such persons is the voluntary efforts of private groups and individuals.”

“We call for the privatization of the inland waterways, and of the distribution system that brings water to industry, agriculture and households.”

“We call for the repeal of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.”

“We call for the abolition of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.”

“We support the repeal of all state usury laws.”

Koch Industries stays in Russia, backs groups opposing U.S. sanctions

https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/koch-industries-russia-ukraine-sanctions/?

As hundreds of major U.S. companies exit Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, Koch Industries is staying put.

The industrial conglomerate — the second-largest privately owned business in America, with $115 billion in annual revenue — is among those defying public pressure and continuing to operate manufacturing plants and sell products across Russia, while up until Wednesday remaining mum on that nation's relentless assault on Ukrainian cities.

Wichita, Kansas-based Koch has several business lines in Russia, and is among the nearly 40 companies described as "digging in" by refusing to curb or stop business in that nation, according to a tally compiled by Yale University professor Jeffrey Sonnenfeld and his research team.

Koch subsidiary Guardian Industries has two industrial glass manufacturing plants in Russia that employ about 600. Outside of Guardian, Koch employs 15 people in Russia, according to the company.

execerpt:

SHELDON ADELSON -

The casino-owning couple and perennial super-spenders Sheldon and Miriam Adelson set a new record for donations from individuals in a single election cycle, giving $172.7 million.

The 2020 election cycle is projected to cost a record-smashing $11 billion. So far, an unprecedented amount, $2 billion, comes from outside spending groups, which can receive unlimited funds from wealthy billionaires like the Adelsons. The couple gave $170 million in outside spending this year. As they have for 30 years, all their donations went to Republicans and conservative groups.

The second biggest donors this year are Richard and Elizabeth Uihlein, the shipping supplies moguls who gave $59.2 million. That’s just over a third of what the Adelsons have spent so far. In third place are hedge fund manager and former presidential candidate Thomas Steyer and his wife Taylor, who gave $55.4 million this year. The individual totals exclude the failed self-financing of former presidential candidates Michael Bloomberg and Steyer.

Lots surrounds the NEO CON PNAC [Project for the New American Century] which is American Empire Building and we all know how EMPIRES end.

The US also incarcerates more of its citizens per capita than any country in the world. The criminal justice system is broken, corrupt and exists solely to protect the wealthy. It's the reason why people that are guilty of crimes (like t-Rump) go free and the innocent (poor, black, etc.) go to prison.

Friends in law enforcement tell me the system seems too adversarial. And it's severely overloaded. They claim many cases are being pushed into plea bargains. When the outcome might be completely different if the case had gone to trial with all the evidence.

Expand full comment
Pat Robinson's avatar

I agree, and I think it is much more adversarial than concerned with justice. Many years ago when affirmative action was getting started and places like law schools were recruiting women I was recruited by a few...pretty much would get a free ride. My older brother had gone to law school and dropped out at the end of his 2nd year and when I asked him why he said because there is no relationship between the law and justice. Well I respected his opinion and choose to not go to law school and to this day I have not seen anything to make me think his observation was incorrect. I had wanted to be a public defender, not because I liked criminals but because I believed in the Constitution so much and hated to see anyone's rights violated and I felt that by having prosecutions fail because someone's right were violated would help the Constitution be upheld. It would have been a very hard career for me as I also hate criminals. Big time attorneys as well as public defenders who defend big time perpetrators like epstein and trump do not care at all about the victim, or justice...they do not care who did it, they only want to get their client off, which of course is their job, but what kind of a person chooses a job where it is your responsibility to get off a child abuser??? As with so many problems, the problem of backlogs, overworked court staff would be, in a rational society, to hire more staff. Instead "they" came up with plea bargaining which I find to be very very irritating. You either did something or you didn't and you need to suffer the consequences if you did. Likewise, if we have a problem with medicaid fraud hire more people to investigate in (including the providers) and then cut those fraudsters off....don't just go around cutting off a certain category. I have not seen one study of the specific numbers of "able bodied" men who are on medicaid and more importantly how often to they use their medicaid card (I don't mean to stereotype, but my experience has been it's really hard to get a man to go to the doctor unless it's genuine er stuff). So we have no data as to how much these cuts will save, and if they don't save enough we will have to cut others (not those able bodied men but who knows who) to meet the budget requirement, sort of like how we now have to round up anyone with brown skin to make the quotas for the deportation program. Throughout my 35 years in the criminal justice system I honestly never met a police officer I did not like and respect. Oh I know there were some bad eggs out there, but not many, not many at all. That has totally changed as we now how law enforcement agencies that thrive on violence and ignoring basic Constitutional rights. And yet we still have millions of law enforcement folks who truly want to do the whole protect and serve stuff. Tough times.

In Switzerland, there isn't a national minimum wage, but some cantons (states) have established their own minimum wages. For example, in Geneva, the minimum wage is CHF 24.48 per hour. In other cantons, such as Neuchâtel, it's CHF 21.09 per hour, and in Jura, it's CHF 20.60 per hour. Ticino's minimum wage varies between CHF 19.75 and CHF 20.25, depending on the sector.

Here's a breakdown:

Geneva: CHF 24.48 per hour

Neuchâtel: CHF 21.09 per hour

Jura: CHF 20.60 per hour

Ticino: Between CHF 19.75 and CHF 20.25 per hour, depending on the sector

These are some of the highest minimum wages in the world, reflecting Switzerland's high cost of living and strong economy. However, it's important to note that these are just cantonal minimums, and many jobs, particularly in specialized fields, will pay significantly more.

This is in Euros 💶 in dollars is about $30.

There's enough belittling going on in our country to last a lifetime. We need to stop it now and be the better person and show our concern in a positive way and converse with others that don't think like we do. We may not change their minds, but maybe we can open them, so that they pay more attention to what is really going on. Maybe a question like do you think that all immigrants are bad? or where did your family immigrate from? Just simple questions that might open up some dialogue.

I love the question about where did your family immigrate from and then be sure we have info to share about how those immigrants were treated when they first got here as well as our own stories. The PBS show Finding your Roots often has very interesting parts about how awful most immigrant populations were treated when they first came here and most of America does not know much about that. Also, it would be nice to be able to discuss the concept of immigrants...mot of Texas and new Mexico and parts of California at one time belonged to Mexico, so aren't the people of Mexican descent not the immigrants, but rather we are (and of course we all are in some way except all Native Americans.). I hope we can be very careful to not belittle anyone..that does no one any good...makes us seem smaller and sure doesn't change any one's mind.
