Meidas URGENT IMMIGRATION Updates with Carlos Eduardo Espina

Carlos Eduardo Espina joins our Meidas Meetup to talk Trump’s raids, Latino betrayal, and the rise of Mi Gente News on Substack.

By Ben Meiselas

We had a powerful Meidas Meetup on Substack Live this morning, and if you missed it, make sure you stop what you’re doing and go subscribe to Mi Gente News by Carlos Eduardo Espina right now.

Carlos is one of the most trusted voices on immigration and Latino politics in the country. With nearly 13 million followers on TikTok alone, he’s built a movement, not by sugarcoating the news, and definitely not by playing it safe, but by showing up every single day for his community, in Spanish and now increasingly in English. And what’s he doing with that massive platform? Telling the truth that Univision and Telemundo won’t.

Carlos joined me and my brother Brett for this week’s live chat to break down the terrifying reality of Trump’s America right now. We’re not talking about hypotheticals. We’re talking masked ICE raids, carried out like paramilitary operations, targeting Latino workers outside Home Depots, flower vendors, people just trying to survive. No badges. No transparency. No decency. This is fascism in real time, and Carlos reporting on it all.

And let me say this: Carlos has been sounding the alarm for years. He was warning his followers when Trump started talking about “Operation Wetback” on the campaign trail. When others were saying he’d only go after the “bad guys,” Carlos was saying he’s coming for all of us. And now? The same people who once accused him of fearmongering are coming up to him and saying, “You were right.”

What sets Carlos apart, and why I respect him so deeply, is that he’s not here to play partisan games. He’ll call out Democrats when they drop the ball. He’ll demand better immigration policy. But when it comes to Trump, there’s no both-sides nonsense. Carlos knows exactly who the threat is, and he’s not afraid to say it out loud.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the future of Latino media is not going to be built by corporations that treat our communities like pawns. It’s going to be built by people like Carlos. And it’s our job to uplift these voices and ensure they are heard.

So subscribe to Mi Gente News on Substack. Share it with everyone you know. Let’s help Carlos grow this into a movement even bigger than what he’s already built. And please consider joining the Meidas+ Substack today to support our continued growth and expansion. Independent media is more important than ever, and we are grateful for your support.
