Yes — we must double the massive No Kings Day turnout for July 17th’s Good Trouble Day. This is absolutely imperative.

I get the symbolism, but July 4 turnout you may see is questionable. It's a long holiday weekend and many have vacation and family plans. Low turnout is worse than no rally. Planners should have left it at the mid June rally. at least that's my opinion.

Cheers!! Spread the word. Not many people seem to be concerned enough about this ongoing threat to society and democracy to delete their accounts. I typically get two rationalizations: "I have nothing to hide," and "It's too convenient; can't sacrifice that for democracy."

FB did you a favor by kicking you off for exercising your right to free speech. That's what their algorithms do; suppress the speech they either don't like or can't make a profit from.

"“When Streets Roar, Change Happens” — Protest History Unleashed"

A hard-hitting reminder that protest must be paired with strategic action to shape our democracy:

🔥 “Protesting and not voting is just going for a walk.”

🔥 “It has to be part of a sustained movement.”

🔥 “What are you going to do on Monday?”

🔥 “The protest makes those laws into a reality to fit our lives.”

(There's such a wealth of information in this; all should hear, and share/spread this word.)...

I know full well that threats are not protected by the first amendment, but "first amendment! First amendment!" Is the response that they constantly make for every piece of hateful screed that they post, that they scream in the street, that they hang from public overpasses, and that first amendment argument has been very specifically angled to work in favor of their hate speech and against our public response to our government turning into an autocracy. So don't give me that "I hope you're not a lawyer" bullshit, when you're drowning you don't whisper, we need to be doing the online equivalent of screaming in the street by f'ing POSTING every single one of these people's names & showing up at their houses on weeknights so that their family can know just what kind of a hateful piece of garbage is living in their home with them. And maybe get them in response to do something constructive like jump off one of those overpasses into oncoming traffic instead of hanging up a "Goy Liberation" banner from it.

Publication of the demand letters could be worth millions, if not billions in PR. Imangine NYT and WAPO reporting....

Threats can also be crimes.

For years I couldn't understand why HRC and Biden and others who are defamed don't sue. I wish Newsom good luck. His suit is news. Published in MSM. Reported on network TV.

Fox is extremely vulnerable. Besides Newsom, they have a pending Smartmatic suit which may be worth $billions and shareholder derivitive suits are pending. New York City’s five pension funds and the State of Oregon, by and through the Oregon State Treasurer and the Oregon Department of Justice, on behalf of the Oregon Investment Council and the Oregon Public Employee Retirement Fund, against various directors and officers of Fox Corporation, the corporate parent of Fox News Network, LLC. Plaintiffs allege that Fox News’ leadership breached its fiduciary duties by adopting a business model that promoted or endorsed defamation by failing to establish systems or practices to minimize defamation risk despite the known risk of liability, including broadcasting false claims about election technology companies Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic USA.

Pat Robinson's avatar

That is all good news. Didn't fox lose a lawsuit in Canada in which they had to admit they are not news, so they don't have to tell the truth. They are in fact just entertainment. I think at some point the financial stuff might impact the owner, but it would be great is we could have a similar ruling here and everyone could continuously remind the public fox is entertainment, and they settlement would make they have to tell their viewer all the time.

From where I sit in Canada it looks to me that the conditions in the USA today parallel the conditions in Germany prior to World War II. In both countries the governments lied to the people. In both countries goons (SS & ICE) rounded up and arrested innocent people that the government didn't like. In both countries A great many people were terrorized into silence and complicity with the evil. The big difference between Germany then and America now is that those opposed to the evil did not have the tools that are now available to Americans. Meidas is one of the greatest of those tools, and it is important that this resistance continue.

On the way back we have to shake reality into everyone so some of us will get offended! Believe me, Trump will have an office somewhere spreading lies and rumours so let's take the offensive like they have and like Governor Newsome said! I sent a text and left a phone message to my senator about the oncoming debacle and got back in reply a solid single spaced page talking about stuff that they had done as far back as 2021 without any clear idea of a strategy of how to shortstop This Disaster that is about to befall us. Oh Schumer's going to make them read the entire thing and that should delay it by oh 24 or 25 hours, big deal.

Newsome should not be the only one, we need people to follow Al Green's lead and we need articles of impeachment introduced every week so that they're all on record, and we need a lot more than just PR from our representatives.

Expand full comment
Gwynne's avatar

I like your idea to introduce articles of impeachment often. I also think that reading the entire bill out loud is resisting and no amount of resistance is too small. Since we all need to do whatever we're able at any point, at the very least, this shows that there's still going to be push back. Every effort counts ☮️

Expand full comment
Schmendryck's avatar

Not to dismiss every effort, or any effort, but far too many of our Representatives feel like posting on their website or sending emails to their constituents is all they need to do, same as too many people here feel like posting in all caps is sufficient. My only argument is that it is NOT sufficient. And Newsom shouldn't be the ONLY one getting on the networks as often as possible no matter how cogent and coherent he is, (we know he's setting up for a run in '28) we need to have groups of opposition, Senators, Congressional reps, Governors, getting on line, getting on both local & national television every weekend, Saturday afternoonor EARLY Sunday, and making these statements loudly so that they can drown out the Sunday morning network talk that so obsequiously sucks trumpf's stumpf.

Maybe it would not be hyperbole if they made us all aware of just exactly what these attacks are and provided all the details of said attacks.

If you personally had credible threats of harm and or death directed towards you, but only described them vaguely, it would be very easy for me to claim your being hyperbolic.

If on the other hand you presented specific details and even went as far as naming these individuals and exposing them,

then that would be different.

In the absence of details, I also sadly feel like this is just marketing.

I would like to see and hear all the specifics and especially the actual communications involving these threats.

I would say go ahead and expose these individuals for the world to see.
