My Conversation With Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi as Democrats Go on Offense

Dems opened the year by seizing a MAGA hearing and confronting Trump’s abuses

By Ben Meiselas

One of the core reasons was built Meidas+ was to bring our community closer to the people who are actually in the rooms where decisions are being made without corporate media filters. That’s why I sat down with Democratic Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi to discuss the Democrat’s plan to hold Donald Trump and the MAGA Republican machine accountable in 2026.

Americans are counting on Congress to exercise its constitutional role while Donald Trump continues to govern through intimidation, retaliation, and disinformation. Thankfully, during hearings this past week, Democrats in Congress used the opportunity to fight back, turning the tables on MAGA, and showing how the dynamics would shift should Democrats take control of the House in November.

Before my interview with Krishnamoorthi, I showed one such instance of a MAGA Republican hearing completely backfiring, because I don’t think these hearings are getting nearly enough attention.

Republicans came in intending to push propaganda and protect Trump’s expanding abuses. Democrats instead took control of the room.

Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett delivered one of the most emotionally powerful moments I’ve seen in a committee hearing. She spoke openly about the toll these policies are taking on real people and asked a question Republicans could not answer: whether anyone on their side still has the courage to stand up when a woman is killed and a child is left without a parent.

Crockett made clear that pretending nothing happened is not neutrality, but rather complicity. When Republicans bristled, she pressed further, reminding them that “no one is above the law,” badge or not. Republicans hoped to protect Trump at all costs. Democrats, like Crockett, had different different plans.

That theme carried straight into Democratic Congressman Jared Moskowitz dismantling the performance politics of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Moskowitz called out Noem for rushing to television within minutes of a deadly shooting to label it “domestic terrorism,” while consistently refusing to show up for real oversight.

He didn’t stop there. Moskowitz forced the committee to confront why Attorney General Pam Bondi has still not appeared before the House. At one point, he pulled out a calendar and boxed Republicans into committing to an actual date.

That’s the backdrop for my conversation with Congressman Krishnamoorthi.

What he told me reinforces why these direct conversations matter.

Krishnamoorthi explained that Democrats are deliberately linking Trump’s abuses of power to the everyday crises Americans are facing. While Trump fixates on reckless foreign adventures and authoritarian stunts, working families are dealing with exploding healthcare costs, expiring ACA tax credits, childcare expenses, and a regime that has no interest in affordability or stability.

He walked me through new legislation he introduced with Joaquin Castro, the No Occupation of Venezuela Act, designed to block taxpayer funding for any occupation or prolonged military involvement there.

After the killing in Minneapolis, Krishnamoorthi joined Oversight Committee members in moving to subpoena all documents and video related to the shooting. He told me plainly that Democrats do not trust the Trump administration to investigate itself. That much is obvious. The Trump DOJ is simply a corrupt cover-up arm for Donald Trump himself, not an actual entity constituted to ensure justice.

Krishnamoorthi also gave our audience insight into what Republicans are saying privately. According to him, more Republicans than people realize are deeply alarmed by how Trump is running the country. Publicly, most stay silent. Real models of courage, huh?

Privately, the concern is real. And in some cases, it’s starting to show up in votes, including recent bipartisan support to extend ACA tax credits.

I' promise to keep bringing you unfiltered access to lawmakers who are actively trying to stop a regime that is weakening constitutional checks, weaponizing federal agencies, and governing through retaliation.

What we’re seeing at the start of this year is a shift. Democrats are no longer content to absorb punches and issue carefully worded statements. They are challenging lies immediately, demanding oversight with specificity, and making clear that Trump’s behavior is not normal and cannot be normalized.

You deserve the opportunity to challenge our lawmakers to do more and to hear directly from the people pushing back. These decisions affect your healthcare, your safety, your rights, and your future. That’s why this platform is about ensuring your voice is heard. That’s why we’re having these conversations, and we’ll keep bringing you directly into them.

I hope you enjoy this segment and interview, and I’ll be back soon with even more news. Stay up-to-date with more reports on our YouTube channel throughout the day.
