Former National Security Adviser and U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice joined MeidasTouch co-founder Ben Meiselas for a conversation about Donald Trump’s foreign policy and the swift, dangerous deterioration of America’s position in the world.
Rice gave MeidasTouch viewers a stark analysis of Trump’s foreign policy decisions. Rice described Trump’s six-month war with Iran as a “strategic failure” that has cost American lives, depleted critical military resources, increased costs for American families, and failed to achieve the objectives offered to justify it.
More importantly, however, is that Rice warned that the consequences extend far beyond Iran.
She argued that the war, combined with Trump’s repeated threats and subsequent retreats, is damaging American deterrence and sending a message to adversaries including China and Russia.
“The world is looking at this and seeing the United States and Israel throwing the military kitchen sink at Iran and failing,” Rice told Meiselas.

At the same time, Trump is straining relationships with longtime American allies. Rice pointed to Canada, Europe, South Korea and other partners that have historically helped form the backbone of American power.
“America alone will always be weaker than America with committed reliable friends and allies,” she said.
Rice also sounded an alarm about developments inside the U.S. military, including the removal of experienced senior officers, depleted munitions and what she described as a failure to adequately prepare for the technologies that will define future warfare. The damage to the military, she warned, could be “generational.”
Still, Rice stopped short of calling the situation irreparable.
She said a future administration could rebuild American credibility and alliances, but restoring lost trust will require patience and humility. Countries that once assumed the United States would remain a dependable partner are already being forced to reconsider that assumption.
