Unfortunate the ranchers who probably helped put the felon back in the WH are only bothered when his policies affect them. Never mind the harm he’s doing every day to everyone else. FAFO.

Unrelated question. If all the companies that are ponying up millions for Dump’s ballroom can afford that, why can’t they just pay their fair share of taxes? Dump’s cons and influence peddling are brazen and grotesque. Will the MAGAts ever reach a limit?

Trump wants to build the ballroom and the arch to be monuments to himself. We need to plan on the future expense we will have of tearing them down, because that is what is done to dictator's monuments. We also need to take down the tacky gold that is all over the oval office and everywhere else it has infected our peoples' buildings.. While we are at it, we will need to tear up the lifeless concrete patio and replant the roses.

Taxes go to the Treasury, and are not individually SEEN by the POTUS.

Flashiness goes hand in hand with Grift.

This list of people/companies "BUYING" the East Wing.... want something back, for themselves. That takes flash, being seen and greasing the palm directly.

An essential difference between gift and GRIFT... the recognition of the latter.

The quid and the pro and the quo

meaning "this for that" or "something for something,"

Taxes as we used to know them, were for the betterment of the country (national, regional, local)... but more than 1 person/entity receiving the betterment.

Robert Reich intuitively limits key points to 6. He does this by intuition because he thinks more points in a list is too confusing, and his goal is teaching. You can’t teach if the students cannot follow. Today he wrote naturally with 6 points:

• For affordable groceries, housing, and childcare.

• For higher wages and better working conditions.

• For paid family leave.

• For busting up monopolies that keep prices high.

• For making it easier to form and join labor unions.

• Pay for this by raising taxes on the wealthy.

I agree, and began on a platform last January. No 10-point plans here. Simply, 6 major thrusts will contain everything. (More than 6 and people cannot follow it. Did I mention that?) A beginning of that mind mapping with 6 thrusts is here:

The fact of the matter is that it doesn't matter. The farmers and the ranchers have always thought democrats were stupid and evil communists and MAGAs do not want to do anything for anyone that doesn't turn a profit. I grew up with and have been related to these people all my life and even the women who decided to become teachers and teacher's aides do not see the value of anything other than being an "R" and now a MAGA. So, he'll screw them all over, they will love every minute of it while complaining long and loud every second, and then they will turn around and vote the MAGAs in to every open office they can. Here is a post from one of the right wingnuts about who we all are - and nothing is going to change their attitude, mind, or votes. I got this off Facebook and I'll leave the poster anonymous.

"Two types of people will participate in today's "protests" across the country....the clueless and the communists. The communists will be recruiting the clueless, lying as to the reasons for the protests. You can tell the difference. The communists will have commercially printed signs, new Mexican flags, gas masks, and a ready supply of weapons to use against law enforcement. No matter what happens the agenda based media will describe the "protests" as peaceful...even in those places where assaults on officers, vandalism, looting and arsons occur. Surely we must believe the media in spite of what the videos of anarchy show. Reality is not what we see but what the commies say. After all there is little if any honesty in times of war....and we are at war."

The person who wrote this and the people who repost it are the clueless ones with their heads perfectly seated up their ass. Some of them I knew personally growing up and thought they were intelligent people... wow, was I ever wrong! Regardless of the prices, the economy, or anything else, these people that live and write this kind of disinformation crap will always vote "R"!

We do not have country of origin labeling laws that will tell you.

They will import cheap beef as primals.. and then cut them and grind the trim and label it as American cause the final processing happens here.

That law is thanks to National Cattlemen. Don't think for one minute they give a rats ass about cattle farmers. They care about the Big 4. That is it

Expand full comment
Doreen Parker's avatar

Ouch, I think you are 100% correct, I don't think I have ever seen a country of origin on any meat products. I was thinking of "Avocados from Mexico" and grapes. We are doomed.

We watch a lot if old Western series, aka, the Virginian, where cattle gets infected with Anthrax, Hoof and Mouth, where the whole herd gets destroyed. Will this happen from Argentina?

Expand full comment
M Ja's avatar

Sometimes you can see country of origin in the small print on the back but it certainly isn't prominent so you have to search. Most tuna products have it on their cans by the ingredients section where it specifies the sodium levels, whether the tuna is in oil or water. We have to be more vigilant of what we're consuming and demanding our regulatory agencies have information like that included on all of the labels

Expand full comment
M Ja's avatar

It IS happening- their herds are infected but I don't know how widespread it is. BUT we also don't know how loose their standards are in inspection and packaging their beef. With so many people who lost these important jobs in America, you're taking a huge risk.

Besides, plant butter tastes just as good as cow butter and is reportedly more healthy.

Giving up cheese will be hard for me, since I haven't found a good tasting plant based cheese. I don't care for the flavor of goat cheese. Any suggestions? Please advise, as that may be my breaking point. Sigh.

Expand full comment
M Ja's avatar

You can modify goat cheese with some of the seasonings found at Trader Joe's and elsewhere. Alternately, try ones that are already naturally flavored with honey or persimmon.or other fruit to acclimate your taste buds. It's one of those things that grow on you with more exposure.

Suggestions: Everything Bagel Seasoning, Green Goddess Seasoning (not dressing).

Have you considered buffalo? (similar products to cattle). Ostrich also has some of the lowest fat meats available, if you're brave enough to try.. I think that if you did a blind taste test of all 3 products made up as a hamburger with the usual dressings, you'd be hard pressed to distinguish much difference between them except that one would be less greasy.
