SPEAKER 4
President Biden has just announced that he will be pardoning his son Hunter Biden arising out of the two federal criminal prosecutions from a Republican-appointed special counsel. Let me read for you President Biden's statement where he just announced moments ago that he will be pardoning his son Hunter Biden. Here's what it said.
0:22
Today, I signed a pardon for my son, Hunter. From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively and unfairly prosecuted. Without aggravating factors like use in a crime, multiple purchases,
0:43
or buying a weapon as a straw purchaser, people are almost never brought to trial on felony charges, solely for how they filled out a gun form. Those who were late paying their taxes because of serious addictions but paid them back subsequently with interest and penalties are typically given non-criminal resolutions. It is clear that Hunter was treated differently.

President Biden Pardons Son Hunter Biden

President Biden issued a pardon to Hunter Biden, addressing the selective prosecutions of his son. Watch the new report from Ben Meiselas.

President Joe Biden announced Sunday evening he has pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, citing what he described as a “miscarriage of justice” stemming from two federal criminal prosecutions.

In a statement accompanying the pardon, President Biden said, “Today I signed a pardon for my son, Hunter. From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making, and I kept my word, even as I have watched my son being selectively and unfairly prosecuted.”

The prosecutions against Hunter Biden included charges of falsifying information on a gun purchase form and late payment of taxes—cases Biden argued were handled with unprecedented severity. The president pointed out that individuals in similar situations are typically not prosecuted for such infractions, particularly without aggravating factors like using a weapon in a crime or repeated offenses.

“Had the plea deal held, it would have been a fair, reasonable resolution of Hunter's cases,” Biden added, referring to a negotiated agreement that unraveled amid political pressure from Republicans in Congress. “No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son, and that is wrong.”

This decision marks a shift from Biden’s earlier reluctance to consider a pardon. The president admitted the difficulty of balancing his faith in the justice system with what he perceived as politically motivated actions against his son. “Raw politics has infected this process and led to a miscarriage of justice,” he said.

He paid the taxes back which is more than Trump ever did. And his gun charge was not worthy of jail time. Trump is about to pardon real criminals that caused serious harm to police. Good for President Biden. Now he needs to pardon every Democratic senators, representatives, his generals and anyone involved in the January 6 prosecution

President Biden has tried so hard to set an example of integrity in our justice system with little support from the very ppl who were supposed to be the party of law and order. Hunter has had to take the blunt of the push back from the maga Senate and House members bc they needed to find a patsy to distract from the real agenda. So IMO the pardon is the only solution to a miscarriage of justice. Hunter was a private citizen that didn't deserve what was done to him.

RE: Don, Jr

I agree with your comment Terri.

Tragically, and so far not one member of his family has tried an intervention to possibly get him into rehab.. If not, just like old Pop Jrs drug use will ultimately be the terminal end of him!

Granted, a person with an addiction must want help before being treated. But in this case, Jr must be treated with boxing gloves, and with threats of loosing his (nepotism) work positions, access to any monies since these drugs will destroy his ability to analyze properly business decisions, etc..

I've cared for younger patients ages around forty-(40) needing emergency major open heart surgery due to the destructive effects of these illegal drugs destroying families, and killing patients.. Lately and most times Don, Jr is sweating perfusly while standing on stage, and it appears as though his eyes are so glassy one might skate across his eyeballs...

I wouldn't doubt some in his family have noticed Jr's changes to no avail... 😔.

I'm thrilled our President Biden pardoned his son, who accepted the consequences for his drug addiction illness, and meanwhile the GOP were conducting their sham investigation of him.. This was definitely and nothing more than an attempt to draw others attention away from their father's despicable criminal activity!!

Dike de Bruijn,

I'm curious as to how you know for certain Hunter Biden would be pardoned??

Especially since and when this sham case was being litigated against him in the House? President Biden initially said for weeks:

1. He would not interfere in Hunter's legal case.. and he didn't.

2. President Biden could have pardoned Hunter months ago, and during this trumped up case 8n the House.

Incidentally, I do have extensive legal and medical educations, and compared to the nonsense the former did in his previous administration, and now his statements about pardoning J6 insurrectionists.. sorry but what President Biden just did pales in comparison to President Biden's decision..

I think President Biden did the best thing he could - under the circumstances- by pardoning his son. The orange idiot has made it clear retribution is his plan and has listed his targets. President Biden is protecting his son as much as he can by taking these issues off the table. The orange one handed out numerous pardons that were unwarranted. And I am not interested in his hate-filled rants following this news.

Bulwark commentators are calling President Biden a hypocrite and that he lost credibility by pardoning Hunter. I refused to even open the video. I think The Bulwark has done a great job, especially Tim Miller, a friend of MTN but let him know I may unsubscribe from their channel from just the Chiron on the Video. As I said, I didn’t open it up. I believe Biden is more than justified by pardoning his son. I hope that he preemptively pardons other people that are likely to be unfairly prosecuted. Why should Jack Smith have to go into hiding when he did nothing wrong! Why not train your sights on powerful forces lining up to persecute people who are randomly associated with anything Trump wants to hate? Anyone conceivable on that list should be given a pardon! Could you imagine Liz Cheney or General Millie, even yourselves being unfairly targeted!

I’m short, I am through with Democrats bringing swords to gun fights. If Biden can order FBI inquiries into certain people, don’t be afraid to do it on the basis of “they’ll do it to it to us and where does it end?” They’ll do it to you anyway and rub their hands with glee. All you would be doing is protecting the innocent!

Trump politicized SCOTUS. No longer the court of final decisions, as SCOTUS swings the other way … NOW … decisions will be reversed based on political ideologies. Trump is NOW politicizing branches of government. He will politicize the FBI, DOJ & CIA, and likely others such as the IRS. Similar to SCOTUS as elections change political direction, federal agencies will now undergo massive political change in ideology. The US will swing wildly one direction to other with each administration undoing the work of the past. How is this going to make America great. Sound more like a recipe for disaster.

CONGRATULATIONS to Pres. Biden - with all due respect, it was way past the time to show that you & the Dems do bring a gun instead of a knife to a gunfight!!!! The witch hunt after Hunter. BIden was a 100% travesty of justice and a political prosecution. Period. Protecting the justice deparment employees for doing their job is sane and in the upcoming toxic revenge corrupt administration, 110% warranted. The sad state of the incoming union….

NEXT LOGICAL STEP IS for Pres. Iden, VO KHarris, Shumer, Jefferies, Pelosi and ALL Dems NOT TO ATTEND THE INAUGURATION - return the favor - and please do not give us the “but we want to go high when they go low” - NO MORE - as a politician your job is to win and in order to win the voter needs to know and sense that you have the guts to face adversity head-on - trump and his sycophants are CORRUPT AND TOXIC FOR OUR COUNTRY - it is time to send these crooks a message that “politics as usual is over” - BY NOT showing up you take away the one thing trump craves and needs “to feel that he is in charge and has your respect” - he is not and he does not.

Also, if he implements what he promised during his 1st 100 days, DO NOT SHOW UP at the State of the Union. Again, the message will be “we do not agree with the corrupt way of running the country and we are exercising our right to civil disobedience….chew on that.

Trump hopped on President Biden's pardon (rightly done IMHO) quickly. So, let him pardon his thugs. Where, for example, are they going to work? What has changed since their incarceration that the public hasn't been told?

How many lost their homes, marriages, savings, etc? How many families are now dependent on Food Stamps? Housing assistance? Does anyone think their lives have improved? They're worse off than broke a** Rudy and that's saying something. Trump's fake "patriots" may ultimately turn against him--possibly sooner than later. Not good for Trumpy.

President Biden's son still has his family to support him. He won't go hungry. But for the idiots who followed Trump, it's a different story until they figure out he doesn't care about them or their situation. Should that occur, there is potential for the Resistance to continue to grow beyond MAGA's ability to "handle" it all.

I hope that the calls above are symbolic and not calls to action. I get it. Biden has played by the rules and many in his party think he has been too passive. I believe his pardon if Huntarr was fair given all we know now and have seen over the last few months. Huntarr paid what he owed which is more than the future guy has ever done. Huntarr has been attacked verbally by the conservative media and the maga party for years and it has undoubtedly cost him. It’s time to let this go MAGA’s. Unless you plan to criticize your own dear leader and exact a toll on him as well. My best friend’s mother always used to say ‘What goes around, comes around. Be careful what you wish for.’

But how do we move forward?

This is not just about Huntarr, the Biden family or even Magas and their leader. Civility has suffered a massive breakdown. I’ve been guilty myself recently because I had had it with several attacks that reeked of agism and sexism in Substack, and retaliated with a critique of Rand Paul that I wish I had worded differently. I was living in KY where I lived from age 18 months to age 19. So I knew KY politics and when I returned to care for very elderly parents Rand Paul was running for office. What he has done for Ky is debatable. He seems like a mini-Trump to me , but makes snappier clothing choices. I have no doubt he has benefited financially from his foray into politics. I’ll leave it to Kentuckians to decide if he has benefited them. I recently moved to be closer to my kids so no longer live there but have many people I care about in the state.

How do we move forward as a nation. Do we continue to argue like the hugely dysfunctional nation that we are now? We are like a bickering family. We share turf but not values and sling insults when we run out of things to say. Note I said ‘we’. I’d rather have some effective discussions about where we are going as a nation. I’m going to try to do that. What about you?
