The big difference with WWII--- Churchill, the Brits and all the Allies were fighting the mostly external threat of Hitler et al's fascism; that is, the fascist threat was attacking democracy from without, not entrenched within as it is now in the USA. Then, it was vanquished by the values and bravery of those on the outside, though certainly with some secret and active resistance forces working within.
Now, the Resistance has to be more powerful and organized from within because that's where the threat to democracy is coming from. This seems unlike any other time in American history with the possible exception of the Civil War.

More evidence of waste and efficiency: They sent an actual mailed letter recently, explaining the "new" system of sending payments on dates based on which date of the month we're born. There's nothing new about it, and all dates were off by 1! Correct dates are in my account. NOT government efficiency! Today I celebrate the right to gripe.
Yes. ridiculous! I just logged into the My Social Security website, and at least it isn't included in official communications or messages. My local Congressional Rep is good about responding, so I plan to contact him. I suspect the hidden, implied message may be "Big Brother is Watching". It certainly doesn't seem like a good use of our taxes.
Most of the social security letter was a lie. They didn't eliminate social security taxes at all. Instead they are giving seniors an additional deduction which MIGHT lower their income enough that they don't have to pay taxes on their benefits. It's all a scam.

I’m now considering saving it as my first personal introduction to this New World where I might have to get out of the f-ing rocking chair, pick up some rocks from my garden, and dig up my journalism degree from Kent State. This was so much better than spam. Spam doesn’t slap you upside the head and into the fight.

There's just too much coming at us all at once. We can't each know everything. I learned about the German camps last week from an elderly cousin of mine who was a member of the Tin Can Army, those young people who collected tin cans during WWII to help build battleships. A father of a friend of hers collected the #10 cans from the nearby German camp. Who knew? And the story reminded me that everyone can help in some way.

The Republican Party has spent 9 decades trying to repeal all traces of FDR's New Deal policies. When Trump puts his signature on that hideous bill, they will have finally succeeded -- not only returning this country to a time before there were ANY safety nets for the poorest among us, but also conceding to China the dominance that America enjoyed in the Twentieth Century.
So well said, Michael. I, for one, will fight for our country. It does not belong to trump and his regime to destroy. It belongs to the American people. All of us and he doesn't get the final say. We do, with our voices and our actions. We will never bend the knee to him, kiss his a_s or kiss his ring. We have no kings or dictators in our country. That's not what America is. We, the people, who love our Country and what it stands for will get it back and rebuild into something even better - one where all are equal, not just a select few that don't have one working brain among them. We will get rid of the cruelty and the lies and base our foundation on truth. We will welcome the immigrants and people of another skin color and place fact before fiction.
But HOW!?!? DO WE CREATE HUMAN WALLS AROUND THE Alligator Swamp!?!? Do we stand in front of the Trucks Carrying Cement to build their Cement DUNGEOUNS?!?!? We have all been complaining for months, and LOOK HOW MUCH he's GOTTEN AWAY WITH!!! My hair is falling out from continuing STRESS!!!

I encourage everyone to watch this 5 minute video that historian Heather Cox Richardson put out that explains the ramping up of ICE and the entire immigration fiasco. Seems it would be much more humane and less expensive to simply pass the bipartisan immigration reform which is drafted and collecting dust.

I don’t believe we’ve faced worse.
Our country is being devoured by a group of animals who love power so much, they are consumed by it. Some of these creatures claim God put their putrid leader here. That is a lie. The same entity that put the serpent in the Garden of Eden put Donnie Trump here. Our country is fighting to survive the onslaught of hate, meanness, and the false religion of the MAGAts. Donnie claims he loves God. That is a lie. Donnie loves Satan and that is why he is Satan's little boy toy. Those of us who love our country and the Republic must fight to keep it and we can do that at the polls. The Republican Party is dead, murdered. Now we must pick up the standard and vote against tyranny, hate, theocracy, a militarist Nazi state. Only we can save democracy with words, actions and truth.
