SPEAKER 2
These Trump voters are in the find out stage, like this voter, at Alaskan Politics. I'm really starting to regret my vote. To which someone responds, don't pretend you didn't know it was going to go like this. Everyone knew. To which the Trump supporter said, but I wasn't expecting him to be anti-cancer funding.

Yeah, this is who they are. By the way, Elon Musk is now turning against the far right wing reform party in the UK that tried to court Musk and MAGA. Elon Musk is saying the reform party needs a new leader. Farage doesn't have what it takes. As many a son says, wow. Musk just turned on Farage over,

I don't even want to say the guy's name, this racist, criminal, far-right extremist who's in jail in the UK. Imagine living in a world where even Nigel Farage has more principles and common sense than Elon Musk. That's just how far-right Musk has gone. Well, Musk has gone right now. into Mar-a-Lago,

Regret Grows as Trump Voters Realize The MAGA Movement is Turning Against Them

Trump has told us who he is for years

In a new report, Ben Meiselas holds a mirror up to Trump voters who are just now seeing how Trump and his billionaire oligarchs are turning against them. From Elon Musk betraying MAGA by turning away from “free-speech absolutism,” and Vivek Ramaswamy suggesting American workers aren’t smart enough to make good engineers, and even working class immigrants who never thought Trump would turn on them, Trump supporters are already feeling betrayed by his shift away from their expectations. This ad-free experience is available for subscribers of Meidas+.

Meidas+ is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Meiselas shows how time and time again Trump has broken his promises to his base, such as his bogus claims on lowering grocery prices, a healthcare plan that never materialized, and the wall that was never built. Additionally, Meiselas shines a light on racism within the MAGA movement, with a poignant reflection from an immigrant who initially defended Trump but now recognizes the raw bigotry underlying much of his agenda.

Working class immigrants who voted for Trump who never thought he would come for them are now learning that the MAGA movement sees them as dirty and undesirable. The evidence was there all along, in Trump’s poem “The Snake”: Trump has been festering anti-immigrant hate for years. The backlash is coming as Trump voters realize they supported billionaire oligarchs who only used them to get access to power.

His voters were alright with others suffering is why they believed him. Trump campaigned on "us versus them" and his followers stupidly bought his line of BS hook, line, and sinker. Remember when he said he'd "Protect women ... whether they like it or not?"

He is a pervert, an adulterer, and a liar. Why would any thinking person believe him? The only reason is because of everything he promised to do to RINOS and his perceived "political enemies" they supported. Trump's theme of "us versus them" gave MAGA a false (flimsy) impression of security, protection, and--yes, "immunity" by Trump's definition.

"Do anything, and I'll protect you!" How many JAN6 families did he financially support? How many of their legal bills has he paid? When only a "select few" are pardoned, what will the response be? It's not good [for him and his legion of devils], and we can take that to the bank.

They are the duped stupids who never figured on being lied to and abandoned. They thought he would be their Cyrus. He is their Jeroboam aka The Great Betrayor.

JUDAS the DUMB DUMP TRUMP (He's BETRAYED our Beloved Country)!!

Expand full comment
Ed Garland's avatar

Yup. He’s a predator, a liar, an adulterer and he’s betrayed everyone of his marriages. Burying the mother of his three adult children on his New Jersey golf course should have been yet another sign that he’s unfit to lead. JAN6 was the sign that he was willing to “burn the house down” in order to stay in office.

But his followers worshiped him, believing if they wore adult diapers to his rallies and sanitary pads on their ears he’d be impressed. They were fooled and today many are desperate because of his failure to do what he said he’d do.

The only people who are happy are the ones going to make deposits in their bank accounts—grifters and liars just like their “god.” The devil is a liar. There is no truth nor is there any light to be seen in this evil, dark and corrupt administration. I recall reading …”Resist the devil and he will flee …” Chump is changing his mind as much of what he’s tried to do is shot down by SCOTUS of late. In his mind judges he appointed would rule in his favor.

That’s not what’s happening. Trashing the USA and selling out is obviously a priority for this group of deplorables. They’re not having an easy time of it and people are waking up and taking a stand against tyranny. This is a good thing.

Perhaps the highest court in the land realizes they’ve goofed in giving the devil’s manservant immunity. He believes he is above the law. Well, he’s not above the Creator so we shall see how long his reign of hate and terror prevails.

The Friday night game he came over and my man asked out loud so has he been asked the ? Yet to see if he passes ur approval, who he’d vote for if he was old enough to, he joyfully said trump, my niece says oh yeah I forgot to mention not to mention that. Aunt doesn’t like him at all, Boy said it’s ok. After a couple mins my ol man said to me loudly to u gonna ask him for which reason he would’ve voted for him, bc he’s a racist bigot or…..I don’t want to place judgement onto a 17yr old that has no life experiences, but I also do not want my niece or eventually daughter to end up with someone who underlying has those beliefs that pop up randomly either💔 He doesn’t seem to be someone who doesn’t have respect for women, and I wouldn’t think she would even try to date someone who has ever posted something along those beliefs online. So Elon said we would have to suffer before it gets better. Before WHAT gets better and how?!

My opinion is, due to the general moral decay and greed in this world, we will only be able to beat this by denying ourselves (and the oligarchs) the PRIVILEGE of getting our money by cutting WAY back on spending on things that are not necessary. Stop driving for one day per week. Stop shopping on Amazon. And cancel your cable news in favor of FREE (in more ways than one) PRESS. Stop buying anything advertised anywhere it benefits greed (there are apps to check political affiliations based off donation habits and company profit info is easily obtained). IF WE, AS ONE, DECIDE TO TAKE THE REINS IN THIS WAY IT WILL QUICKLY AFFECT OUR GOVERNMENT AND OUR REPRESENTATION IN IT. CONGRESSIONAL REFORM WOULD FOLLOW.

I have personally taken some even more drastic steps to practice what I preach but listen, IF I HAVE TO SUFFER, IT WILL BE ON MY OWN TERMS WHENEVER POSSIBLE NOT BECAUSE ELON SAYS SO! IT IS ONE OF THE LAST WAYS, I BELIEVE, TO FEEL THAT I HAVE FREEDOM IN MY LIFE. I have able to retain a much higher amount of fruits of my labor and given benefit to others who need help in ways I never could realize before.

Why not start naming Musk what he is -- instead of labeling him "Far Right"? He is way to powerful to be named as though hs is in a class of Republican right wingers. Call him what he is -a Fascist, a Plutocrat, or whatever other names apply? There are right wing Republicans whose values aren't, at least in private, aligned with the megalomaniacs like Musk and Trump. Calling those something else is a way for the most conservative Republicans to separate themselves in public from Musk's insanity.

E. Henry Schoenberger's avatar

The media concentration of power does not foster objective journalism to create informed understanding resulting in rationally informed Public Opinion. So lazy reporters/self-termed “journalists” prefer generic labels to creating explicit understanding. Has anyone but L. O’Donnell or Nicole Wallace had the balls to call what is happening, treason? Or especially Richard Painter.

Expand full comment
Elyse's avatar

I appreciate Nicole Wallace but after a while she and the repetitive group of "friends and guests" (I honestly think it undermines any sense of objectivity that she calls her show's commentators "friends') are just speaking to each other and the each are telling each other what great points the other person is making. They never feature the voices of actual people out in America who honestly don't understand what it means to have a daily dose of "unprecedented" behavior in our Justice Department, Executive Branch, Congressional, or whatever other "norms" are being violated that day. They really don't know. WE all know that, and WE know why it's wrong. But does the public know WHY norms in the DOJ matter? Why public information from the CDC and NIH is important? Most of America doesn't understand why the President shouldn't be allowed to make money while he's President. I've not once heard anyone on that show explain why he shouldn'tt, its just all very OMG it's just "insane." And treasonous. but hearing that without explaining why gets old.

E. Henry Schoenberger's avatar

Elyse --- SPOT ON!!! you are speaking to the choir. I began writing about the failure of the Fourth Estate, when I establish a blog when my last book was published at the advice of my friend Dave Satterfield, winner of 2 Pulitzers for financial reporting as the Bus Ed of the Miami Herald, anchor then of the Knight Ridder chain...and called my blog: www.the5thestate.net because the 4th failed. I only watch O'Donnell, who is the last of the journalists in the mold of Cronkite and Murrow. Dave Satterfield also endorsed and wrote the foreword for my last book, www.howwegotswindled.com - which he nominated for a Pulitzer.

Further, as I bet you know, the "public" has been dumbed down because the Kochs were successful in getting public funds for public schools diverted to private charter schools which in Red States are KKKristian schools in denial & avoidance of science intent on stifling critical inquisitive thought. So now there is a generation or 2 that has no clue about much of anything if their parents are Republicans, and for kids of Democratic parents, they believe they are entitled to their opinions, no matter how wrong - which are assertions and mere conclusions that can't be supported by facts.

Reagan kicked off the sociopathic greedy billionaires drive to deregulate greed and devalue ethics. Which I wrote about in Swindled, and explicitly detailed why arrogant narcissists like Milton Friedman, Alan Greenspan and Larry Sommers were cheerleaders for greed - and responsible for ripping down the Glass-Steagall 1933/Bank Holding Co Act 1956 cage that successfully curbed greed - until Clinton followed the advice of Peter Rubin (Goldman infiltrator) and signed Graham, Leach, Bliley (Clinton later said this was the worst decision of his Presidency) which opened the door, and is the platform for today's un-American grifters behind the Russian Asset following orders to SCUTTLE U.S. Democracy.

Thank you Elyse - I feel less isolated!

Expand full comment
Elyse's avatar

I could not agree with you more, so yes, thank you for saying as much in far more detail - all of which I would not argue with, although I haven't read your blog or book (yet). And ditto re: Lawrence O'Donnell, bless his soul, and whoever taught him to think the way he thinks and, above all, to speak about it in English! I've given up on the rest of MSNBC. I'm no economist but I guess I've learned something from my circumstances and curiosity -- including in the age of Cronkite. I must have mentioned him more in the last couple of months than I did in the five years before! Don't get me started :-) Thanks again, Henry

Expand full comment
E. Henry Schoenberger's avatar

O'Donnell is the closest thing to Cronkite, who in 68 upon returning from a trip to Nam told America we didn't belong there, why and America had to exit! He did not have General Westmoreland on to give the "other side," because he saw first hand that Westy was lying, which LBJ figured out after the fact. I vividly remember - having attended USNOCS in the fall of 64. The goddamn Das CNN round tables to nowhere for the past decades, "non partisan" ABOUT THE TRUTH - have rendered CNN akin to soft Das Fox. High school debate teams where one side is assigned a position to argue why a dead body isn't dead serves to inure students to lies, and that's it's ok to take the side of overt lies. So America has now reached a deflection point where Generals must decide that there oath to DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION AGIANST FOREIGN & DOMESTIC ENEMIES IS NOT AN OATH TO DEFEND A PRESIDENT THAT IS A SELF-EVIDENT DOMESTIC ENEMY. keep in touch.

Expand full comment
E. Henry Schoenberger's avatar

Not only does O'Donnell have rigid integrity toward truth and the role and obligation of the protected Fourth Estate - he has the insight and wisdom to clearly see what is wrong, and the balls to stand up for the truth to objectively create informed public opinion...which includes condemning other "journalists" in abject failure.

I think people from other countries...legal immigrants... from say India, China, Haiti, South American countries etc (POC)...may not actually understand the depth of systemic racism and hatred of black, brown, and other races that exists in the US. They don't realize our country was founded on genocide of the indigenous culture/people (Indians), then we had slavery of the black peoples...and how those things have scared our culture, and are still alive in our country ...albeit more in the southern, and Appalachian area states (I lived in WV for ~20 years)...but I've also seen it even in California where I live now. When tRump says the mean hateful things he does about immigrants they don't realize he and his MAGA followers are speaking about them...I mean they're here legally, or even second generation immigrants, they pay taxes, they work hard, obey the laws, speak English...so why would they think he and his MAGA followers meant them?

It's sad 😔 to see they are getting torn up on social media by the right wing. It will be more sad when his minions start rounding immigrants up and putting them in camps awaiting deportation. They will arrest first and check paperwork second... if at all.

The immigrants are tRump's "other" his scape goats to blame all the US problems on...just like Hitler did in Nazi Germany to the Jewish people...tRump has even used Hiltler's verbiage they are "poisoning our blood", "they are vermin", "they are murders and rapists"...I'm not sure why those words were not a red flag to every immigrant in our country...maybe they weren't reported by the right-wing media? They seem to have fallen on deaf ears for those following tRump.

Anyway the left will be here with open arms to help...it will be a fight for all but we are stronger together!💙

Several experts have considered the question of Trump's first order on 20 January, especially if current Military leaders have not resigned by then and, in contrast to most politicians, have the courage to honour their oaths to the Constitution, rather than legitimise a ceremonial swearing in of a disqualified president elect.

Despite all the lying, disinformation, and ignorance, there are two things that seem to remain reliably "known". They are:

(1) The US Constitution still exist -- no authority has yet declared its actual death.

(2) Trump remains an insurrectionist -- no authority has declared he isn't, and only Congress can remove the disability.

Since the Constitution does not allow an insurrectionist to hold office, the very first order issued by Trump on 20 January would be invalid. Military leaders would be obliged to refuse an order to invade Greenland or Canada, for example, and to refuse to resign as well, until Congress has removed the disability.

Interestingly, presidents rely on the voluntary obedience of military leaders, and if that's lacking, even the Commander in Chief's power is limited. While generals can usually rely on their officers and men to follow orders, politicians' power rests with the electorate who, in this instance, have have been allowed to elect a president, but not to constitutionally qualify him.

Such an impasse would not be a rebellion but a reminder of points (1) and (2) above, with the solution readily available -- 2/3 vote in Congress.

Elon Musk was always that far extreme Right-Wing. He is from White South Africa. Very racist and his father became very wealthy. That is how Elon Musk got his start, just like Donald Trump. He is just as narcissistic, just as much of a liar, just as selfish and lacking in human emotions (except adolescent pettiness, bullying, anger, etc). He just didn't fritter away all of his money like Trump did or he is much more intelligent in what he invests his money in. He sucks at running business he starts, as late by as he doesn't try to run things himself, he dies very well.

There are many, many Trump voters who were just sitting ducks. They have been subject daily and for decades to neurological re-wiring (a.k.a. brainwashing) -- quite intentionally and fraudulently-- by Fox "News" and the rest of the mercenary media propagandists. Many no longer able to understand or admit the humiliation of that fraud perpetrated on them by those who created it, and the forces that enabled it.

Exactly, fellow commenter Dale. I believe it is unacceptable that President Biden and Vice President Harris who we believed were capable of the responsibilities of their offices have refused to fulfill their sworn oaths of office at usa.gov/inauguration to defend the Constitution and We the People from domestic and foreign enemies including Trump, Musk, Putin and many others in their treasonous WWIII Axis! Biden even just promised in his State of the Union speed that we would not bow down to Russia and its domestic and global forces who have infiltrated the entire GOP Party, not just Trump's family.

With the compromised Supreme Court, Congress and the 4th branch of government of the mainstream press ALL bowing down to the oligarchs, our Commander-in-Chief must wield the Executive Branch and our military with fierce love for our country to responsibly protect our nation and us all right now as they should have been doing since 2021 after promising that if we wisely elected Joe Biden, he would save our democracy and us from our enemies. STILL WAITING with shock at what we are being forced to keep enduring at the hands and minds of the villainous GOP party of traitors, who has blocked much-needed progress in this country and globally for DECADES when it comes to fulfilling promised and declared human rights, equal opportunities, and a livable planet.

Washington, Lincoln and FDR never would have succumbed and rolled out the red carpet for national enemy Trump. All the appeasement the Biden-Harris Administration is shamefully doing and exhibiting is an unwarranted and nationally fatal exercise in futile bipartisanship when one party is the ENEMY of this country now and our American society.

We who voted, volunteered, donated and helped them and the very wide and necessary agenda we demanded to improve and save our country expected and deserved far better from the Biden-Harris Administration including their much-delayed responsibility to declare Article 5 with U.S. NATO so we could better defeat Trump and Putin's Axis of Dictators together and now, not separately so weak and never. They need to act with as much force as necessary NOW to protect us, our nation, and our allies for democracy, too, or be forever known as those who committed the gravest dereliction of duties!

For many of them, their thoughts were, and even are, no longer their own. As I just commented, the manipulation of their ability to perceive fact has been a decades-long project of right-wing mercenary media, in the propaganda business for nothing more brutal than exploitation of those who got sucked into the cult unknowingly, and whise brains can't quite understand that they are even more victimized than they thought -- manipulated by the long-term effort to take over their perceptions.

I agree re disinformation and propaganda, but 49% of us voters DID NOT believe the bullshit. We were equally exposed, yet we chose truth, justice, fairness in the workplace, bodily autonomy for women, empathy and try to build community. So I ask, why didn’t we choose to drink the drugged koolaid of MAGA? Many of these are not low information voters. I believe they choose based on grievances, they blame the victims for their current circumstances rather than looking at corporate America. Do I feel sorry for them? No. Are some of them good people? They may not be axe murderers, but they have deep prejudices, believe bad shit shouldn’t be happening to them, and/or refuse to think for themselves.

Expand full comment
Elyse's avatar

All Trump voters need to look at their motives, of course. True, there are the truly cynical who literally bet against themselves as Americans, as well as against American democracy, out of greed, out of fear, or just out of antipathy towards other options, without considering the ramifications.

But there are some people, who for whatever reason, usually psychological, are more vulnerable than others to manipulation by sociopaths such as Trump. That is why con men, for example, can pick out of a crowded room who will be an easy mark and who won't. If they can find those at a psychological low-point in their lives, or who feel otherwise that they have been betrayed or treated unfairly, they make the best marks.

MAGA emerged because for decades now, there has been steady, creeping spread of ideas on the right which, under the guise of American individualism and an unrealistic idealization of the so-called "free market" economy, argued against that investment in our future, in all kinds of ways.

That is one reason why, to my mind, those among the least politically active or aware, as well as those who either consciously or by default chose personal wealth over societal investment, share the blame for what has happened -- because It has always been incumbent upon all Americans to strengthen the fairness of our society -- if not out of a sense of social responsibility -- then for our own protection.
