I am a student of military history and very often when one side thinks it is hopeless, it is really the other side that has spent all its resources and is going to lose. He hasn't won the support of all the people, not even half. And the opposition to him and his actions is deep and intense.
Americans have a democratic culture and mythology. Americans know about the revolution fought against King George. It's baked in--for 250 years. The Germans had no such culture. Theirs was a culture of petty kingdoms, an Emperor and Bismarck. They were decimated by World War I, and they couldn't believe they lost. Their experience with democracy was all of 13 years and it wasn't a good one. The 1930-32 economy was crap. The Germans were easy pickings for Hitler.
I don't believe Americans are such easy pickings for Trump and his people. Maybe 30- 35% are MAGA or MAGA adjacent. So how did Trump win? One, he lied all the time and people of all races believed his lies. Two, white and Hispanic men would not vote for a woman, let alone a black woman. And with all that going for him, he didn't win 50% of the popular vote.
Now his lies are less and less believable. And Hispanics are finding out that Trump meant all of them should be deported, not just criminals. And all of us are finding out that he doesn't give one damn about inflation.
Trump thought we were too "woke." Well, now, Americans are awake, figuring it out, and fighting back.
Thanks for keeping the spotlight on the shutdown. I’ve called my Congressperson (I live in a Republican gerrymandered district in Florida). I do this to leave respectful comments and questions about why the Republicans are shutting down the government and taking healthcare from Americans while the WH bails out Argentina. It’s important to call and leave messages because these calls are logged. Everyone should do this. I’m also passing on this information to the editor of our newspaper who has been writing scathing editorials lately. For health reasons I can’t go to protests so this is what I do. I again urge everyone to do this.

But as important is to develop a long term strategy for our movement As Marc Elias writes in Democracy Docket(https://bit.ly/4n0Qj1J) there needs to be a long range plan that requires organizing around a set of strategies that ensure the takedown of this radical right wing fascist movement that we have come to know as MAGA which by the way has been in the works for at least 2 decades This is not just about 2026 but there and beyond 2028, 2030, 2032 Apathy doesn’t win
