Sen. Adam Schiff Takes On Trump Chaos in New Meidas Interview

The senator calls out Trump’s reckless tariffs, attacks on veterans, and fealty to foreign dictators.

I spoke with Senator Adam Schiff again this week, and he made one thing crystal clear: Donald Trump is running this country like one of his failed businesses—erratic, reckless, and headed straight for disaster.

“One thing businesses will consistently tell you is what they need most from the government is certainty, stability—not chaos.” Schiff said. “And what Donald Trump is doing with these on-again, off-again tariffs is just creating turmoil.” Farmers in the Central Valley are still trying to recover from the economic damage Trump caused during his first term, and now he’s doing it all over again. He imposes tariffs, the markets tank, he panics and pulls back, then does it again. It’s the kind of instability that wrecks economies—and the only people profiting are foreign adversaries and Trump’s billionaire donors.

And speaking of Trump’s billionaire cronies—his latest idea? Selling U.S. citizenship via a Trump Gold Card to Russian and Chinese oligarchs for $5 million a pop. Schiff didn’t mince words: “Nothing really matters to Donald Trump except bringing in cash for himself or his cronies.” And that’s why he’s selling out Ukraine, using a brutal war as leverage for personal profit, while telling the world America is up for sale.

But Trump’s cruelty doesn’t stop at our allies. He’s also going after veterans—again. He’s slashing tens of thousands of jobs at the VA, gutting services for those who served this country, while his MAGA minions shrug and say, “Whatever happens to them, happens to them.” Schiff called it like it is: “It’s a big middle finger to veterans.”

And why should we be surprised? This is the same man who dodged the draft, mocked John McCain for being a POW, and refused to visit a cemetery in France where U.S. Marines were buried because it was raining. “He didn’t want to mess up that orange bouffant he calls hair,” Schiff said. And now, Trump is making sure the VA is decimated, while attacking the U.S. Postal Service—one of the largest employers of veterans—just to hand over more power to private corporations.

Then there’s NATO. Trump is openly undermining the alliance that has kept America safe for 75 years—repeating Kremlin propaganda verbatim. Schiff was blunt: “You can’t tell when Trump is speaking or when Putin is speaking because it’s the same words that come out.” This isn’t just stupidity—it’s dangerous. Our allies stood with us after 9/11. They fought and died alongside American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. And now, Trump is telling them they can’t count on us.

And what are MAGA Republicans doing while Trump sabotages the economy, betrays veterans, and sides with dictators? Giving him standing ovations. Schiff compared it to something out of North Korea—Republicans looking around, terrified they’re not clapping hard enough for the Dear Leader.

Trump’s message to Americans suffering under his failed leadership? “Have fun.” That’s what he told farmers whose livelihoods he’s destroying. Schiff’s message? Fight back. Call your representatives. Speak out. Don’t let fear keep you silent.

We will always be here to fight for the truth, help expose Trump’s corruption, and hold this disaster of a presidency accountable. Consider joining as a paid subscriber now to keep us going.

What is he actually doing? If he hadn’t screwed over Katie Porter she would be in office and I’m sure she’d be doing something more than telling us to call our representatives. I have met Sen Schiff, and voted for him. What are we supposed to do? You’re in Congress:DO SOMETHING!

Every Democrat representative attending Trump’s speech to Congress should have walked out with Congressman Green. I was ashamed of their obedience to chamber decorum while that ORANGE B*STARD lied for 90 minutes. Now Schiff is responding with the same yada yada in this interview. What his constituents need is leadership beyond extended soundbites.

I was just about to write a very similar message when I read your post. I've heard many on substack and other people speaking about what Trump is doing. I'd like to hear more about what is being done to stop this chaos. Do the Dems have one central organized committee that is planning and doing? If so, where are they? And, what are they doing?

Yes, but this is not the America that feared burning crosses and hanging spectacles. Trump and thugs can talk all they want--but if certain past civil rights groups start up again or, the Bloods decide to partner with the Crips and The Nation of Islam these Trump creatures will be unmatched. The CRM came about because the wealthy treated marginalized underserved communities like trash.

Today, anyone who doesn't belong to the 1, 2, or 3% "club" is a target. That means the plantation days of old are now fully integrated, and people of all ethnicities, skin colors, and backgrounds are poised to resist. We are not taking oppression and suppresion lying down.

Perhaps it's time the cult get around to "asking somebody" about what the outcomes for them are likely to be if this country unites to stand up against MAGATS and the evil machinations of the devil's manservant.

It seems Trump has to be opposed in the courts and by us, the American people. To help, it would be useful to see one central website where people could find out what actions are being taken to fight this chaos and how we can get involved. Shouldn't the Democratic National Committee be doing that or a congressional committee, but I can't find anything. It seems so many people are feeling frustrated!

BUT DID NOTHING. I’m tired of hearing just words from Meidas and positive statements that are meaningless. WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Words. are not solving anything I can see.

It’s clear that the republicans in the house and senate have no spine to stand up to this administration. The only explanation I can see to explain this is that they and their families are being threatened if they don’t comply.

So it’s up to the democrats. And so far, they haven’t shown the ability to fight back with any form of authority. They keep playing the same game they’ve always played. This situation requires them to play samurai, and start playing fire with fire. The old game is over, so they need to change the rules. Please!!

Here's a thought that I have posted on three substacks. The House recesses to do "district work" the 13th (this Thursday) until the 21st. The Senate recesses to do "district work" the 17th through the 21st. When you are calling or contacting your Reps and Senators, ask them directly - when is your town hall scheduled during this upcoming recess? In how many cities are you hosting one since you won't be in DC? Over 10,000 people turned out in MI for VERMONT Senator Bernie Sanders Rally Against Oligarchy. They had to turn over 2500 people away. It can't just be an 83 year old Senator out there - ALL of them will be on recess. ALL of them should be hosting one and, if not, then get the League of Women Voters or another large group to host one with them in absentia. That's something they can do starting this Thursday! District work. REAL District work.

----------------------

Question

----------------------

Why didn’t every Democrat follow Al Green and leave the Chamber in protest when Green was escorted out?

----------------------

Answer

----------------------

Democrats are not recognizing the significance of the moment. Democrats do not recognize the bloodless digital coup happening before their eyes. They are living in the past. They are living their culture derived from decades of U.S. political history, that operates at Merrick Garland speed, that has taught them that true political solidarity isn’t forged in impulsive theatrics but in measured, strategic resilience. When Al Green was escorted out of the chamber, many Democrats wrongly believed that following him in a mass exodus would have been less a principled stand and more a symbolic gesture that played right into the hands of those orchestrating a modern, bloodless digital coup. Wrong. Under the emerging influence of figures like Elon Musk and Donald Trump, who are rewriting the rules of political engagement online, faster than the Democrats can imagine, the fight has shifted from the marble halls of Congress to the vast, borderless battleground of cyberspace. In that light, staying put wasn’t about submission or cowardice; it was pathetically about holding the line in a ancient tradition of institutional unity that Trump and Musk don't give a rat's ass about.

----------------------

Fact

----------------------

Adolf Hitler was appointed German Chancellor on January 30, 1933, and by March 23, 1933, just 52 days later, he had effectively consolidated his power with the passage of the Enabling Act, which gave him dictatorial authority.

I think the Democrats would've made more of an impact by not attending Trump's address to Congress. It's not like they didn't know what he was and wasn't going to say. I know they wanted to respect the tradition, but there is nothing traditional about what's going on in Trump's regime. We all know that he lies whenever he opens his mouth. We don't need them to hold up signs to tell us that. We also know how much crowd size means to the asshole. Don't give him the satisfaction.

Trump does not care about anyone but the rich, he told you so at his rallies. They went through 2017-2021 they know who he is and they ALL Voted for Trump. Look up the Poem SNAKE, He read that at many rallies telling all he was the snake. I put the following on another podcast!

I am a Veteran and for that reason i would have voted for a DOG TURD before I voted for DJ TRUMP and yet MANY veterans voted for the man. SO, we make a CHOICE to sign a blank check to serve our country, many because they can't find a job after high school especially if they could not afford school beyond HS. We made a choice, it is NICE to be thanked for my service but i am no one special because of it, I MADE THE CHOICE, They made the choice as well they made a choice knowing Trump was corrupt, that he called us Sucker and losers because he was a coward with BONE SPURS, they knew he was a grifter, they knew he was a BALD-FACED-LIAR, they knew he was an adjudicated rapist a 34 count convicted felon and if that was not bad enough he pissed on the Constitution 2021/01/06!!!!!!!!!!! They voted for him knowing he demanded the USS John McCain be moved out of his sight, all this and they voted for him anyway, knowing how badly he F*C*ED up COVID and didn't take any responsibility, they voted for him after a million people DIED, they voted for him. As a Veteran I am saying THEY didn't CARE for America when they voted for TRUMP, WHY SHOULD PEOPLE CARE ABOUT THEM NOW WHEN THEY DID THIS TO THEMSELVES! People won't say the quiet part out loud because it is veterans. People should have said January 6th was a Bridge too far and yet these people didn't care until they started to be affected! I think either the entirety of the Democratic legislature should have either held up signs that said "LIE" in a full page font visible from the podium, or stood up and shown their back to the President - but in either event, as quietly as possible.

Even better would be to have a few signs to escalate - it would throw him off badly without anyone saying a word.

Visits to that office to speak with someone (even if not the legislator) is even better. We must find ways to get around the technology blocks. Also…if you go to an office, post it, at least to your friends…it may encourage them to take a similar action!
