It was so heartening to hear from a reasonable adult. It is such a shame that all of the other reasonable adults have been forced out of government service by raging narcissists.

I totally agree with your "reasonable adult" statement. But I'd suggest that there really STILL ARE others like him; just too bad they're not the majority. Gallego is also impressive because he has specific ideas for fixing what's gone wrong.

I disagree. Gallego does not sound like a "reasonable adult" when he talks about reforming ICE and DHS. They should be abolished. When WWII was over, the Gestapo was not reformed. It was abolished.

ABSOLUTELY! RIGHT ✅️ Trump is a SERIAL ABUSER, he hates that NO! MEANS NO! as a FELON he feels obligated to use his thug TACTICS to bully anyone and ANYTHING to stay in absolute power, even over the Supreme Courts! CONFRONT THIS LAWLESS POTUS! EXPOSE FACIST agenda, don't wait put him on the spot! Right then and there, especially when he keeps trying to DESTROY AMERICA SOIL AND VAULES!

Gallego is a brilliant strategist and has the ability to communicate his knowledge effectively. Thanks for giving him this platform to talk with us. I so look forward to a rational government in power in the US.

Anyone hired after Agent 🍊's inauguration, should be suspended, without pay, pending investigation of previous affiliations, criminal records, any rights violations, violence, etcetera.

Rank them over the coals. Dismantle.

We need more Military who value the Constitution in office. Thanks Senator Gallego.

Excellent news and insight! Thanks.

Trump is the one that initiated Ice & group & should be charged after his term. Probably his desire to stay in office. Trump’s term in office is shameful to America.

Wow, Meidas, you hit a home run with this op-ed from Senator Gallego. I have never heard of him, but I am very impressed with what he has written. It is very informative!

Woke is a good thing

"Woke," when aligned with empathy and compassion, is defined by many as being aware of social, racial, and political injustices, aimed at fostering a more caring, inclusive, and equitable world. It emphasizes understanding the human behind every story, listening deeply, and actively working to alleviate suffering.

• Awareness & Action: Originally rooted in awareness of racial injustice, "woke" has evolved to represent a broader consciousness of marginalized groups and systemic inequalities.

• Empathy as Strength: Proponents argue that empathy—feeling the pain of others—is not weakness, but rather a strength that guides a desire for a fairer society.

• Compassion in Action: While empathy is feeling the suffering, compassion is the desire to relieve it, and kindness is the action taken to do so. Supporters see this mindset as leading with love and humanity.

Ultimately, being "woke" is a conscious, ongoing effort to recognize one's own biases and to care for the well-being of all people, regardless of their background.

Now, who could possibly oppose such a beneficent course of action? Possibly only those who are filled with anger, hatred, jealousy, envy, paranoia and ignorance.

Say it loud,

I’m woke

And I’m proud!

THEY should try it.

I agree. It’s an odd use of a simple word in past tense. Not sure how it originated that way and why, or if it matters. Just trivial food for thought, as there will likely be new buzzwords to identify and divide people. Meanwhile, I’m content on normal use of language for simply respecting others until they give me a reason not to.

Thanks for interviewing Senator Gallego! I'm a Mexican American from south Phoenix, but living in Seattle, now. I really respect this man and I'm proud that AZ has him and Kelly as senators. I'm also a Veteran. The truth of his life experiences resonate with me. We've got a good bunch of new Democrats like him coming on the scene. If we keep supporting reps like him, we'll get through this. It might get very hard, but I won't give up all of the things we have already fought so hard for!

Defund ICE. They are rounding up people who are not criminals.

VPW2's avatar

Ok so exactly how are you going to stop ICE and the Border Patrol from abusing US citizens or any human beings for that matter. Sounds great what you are saying but you have absolutely 0 chance of doing anything until the supreme leader and his minions are out of office.

The only thing Trump used tariffs for was to extort money for personal profit.
