Trump will set up something (fake attack by a “Islamic Terrorist?) something to stop the midterm elections.

Jennifer Brody's avatar

Or even the fact of a war going on (this one)--a war of choice he started all on his own. Can he do that?

Timothy Richley's avatar

Short answer No We held elections during WWII and even had a presidential election in 1864 in the middle of the Civil War

S. A. Linden's avatar

That was before they knew how to rig.

Morgan's avatar

Apparently Mark Elias on Democracy Docket has already anticipated this move by Trump and said they'll be ready to file a lawsuit when it comes to nullify it.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

The Trump-Epstein War. The files should be renamed the Trump-Epstein files. (Not my idea, but certainly one with which I agree). Put his name first. He likely to be prominent. Remind people who is being protected, the living (and I don't mean his at risk friends) or the dead

Sylvia Sewell's avatar

What a vile distraction he has created.

Linda Weide's avatar

Tom Cotton is what we call in German, a Vollidiot! A complete and total idiot.

I have taught fourth graders that could argue better than that, because I would never allow such lies to be told. Iran has not terrorized us, our government is terrorizing us.

S. A. Linden's avatar

I cannot stand Cotton. There is no defending Trump. He and his flying monkeys have stirred up a hornet's nest. It is so typical of high authoritarians, esp. the malignant type, to jump in first and ask questions later.

Also, these creeps seemed to be racing Iran & Oman, before the news came out that Iran had agreed to virtually ALL of Trump's demands. Trump really, really wanted to strike first and then he expected that Iran would see and experience his "mighty arsenal" and surrender to his terms.

Trump's a showoff, he wanted a theatrical display of his administration's might and power that he could replay endlessly. It backfired spectacularly.

Linda Weide's avatar

I am looking at the populations in the region. We know that Iraq is standing by Iran. In the middle East Iran has the second largest population.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Great data, ty. Even if you eliminate Israel from the data, there are >0.5B Arab nations, none (IDK about Iran) broken hearted about the former leader's status

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Who might that be? UAE? Saudi Arabia? Qatar? Hungary? The rest are done with us

Linda Weide's avatar

These are relatively small countries. And, it has been interesting that Iran's Shaheed Drones have been getting through Israels defense shield.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Iran is a technologically savvy country. No doubt they studied the Iron Dome protocols and have developed evasive technological advances, just as the US did by scattering heated metal to "distract and divert" incoming air attacks. I don't think Fatso understands that Iran is not a 4th world country

To your first comment, that was exactly my point. Our "allies" are relatively (if not very) small countries. Larger countries that were our allies and hardly could still be said to be friends are much larger, such as the EU Countries and Canada. But the larger countries do not bestow wealth on him as do these three. They do not approve eponymous developments. They are not allies - they know how to play him as he uses them for personal gain. Top tier chips to them ... to China to enrich him/his and leave the U.S. less secure

Eilidh's avatar

FYI : When I was studying engineering at one of America's highly-rated universities, in the evenings, on weekends, and on holidays, the Iranian students could be found working in the engineering library. They were serious, extremely intelligent, and highly motivated.

I got to know them quite well, and every one of them planned to return to Iran. I used to look around the library and wonder how many similarly motivated young Iranian men were studying engineering at other universities in the US and around the world. I wonder just what these men have been doing during all the years that have passed. I suspect we are about to find out.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Foreign students come to learn from the best (us) and often patriotically return home with what they have learned. Section 117 of the HEA of 1965 requires self-reported disclosure of gifts and contracts equal to or greater than $250,000 to the U.S. Dept. of Education. Qatar = $7.7B; Saudi Arabia = $4.2B. Top recipients included: Harvard University; Carnegie Mellon University; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Cornell University; University of Pennsylvania; Stanford University; Johns Hopkins University; Yale University; Georgetown University; Columbia University in the City of New York. We are trading away our knowledge for money to enrich the schools that collect high international tuitions in trade for the best knowledge we have. Source: U.S. Dept. of Education Data reported are current as of 16-Dec-2025 https://www.foreignfundinghighered.gov/

Barb O's avatar

As it should. I don't get the sense that our former biggest friends (Canada, EU, Europe, Japan, Australia) are tied to the Middle East that much anymore and have made new economic ties post-tariff so they don't need to participate just because the US would ask.

Does anyone believe a NON military odd ball- >Mr Bone Spurs -has one iota of one molecule of a suggestion WTF happens when he enters an ongoing battle?? He fired EVERYONE that has a brain re; war. Gone Admirals, Generals, men with 40-50 years in the service....gone bye bye.

He's on his own advised by a genocidal dictator & maybe Putin.

Walking into this, this is his brain on drugs: "I will make them all have a nice peace & a tea party in my miraculous new ballroom. I will end all wars there, and get a Nobel Peace Prize.....yippee!"

Pat Robinson's avatar

But who are our allies now???? No one should trust America or come to our aid. Trump's next move will be to say he has to bomb Greenland into submission because their refusal to join the US is a threat to national security more than the potential that sometime in the future Iran would attack us. After all trump has done to hurt all our traditional allies, why would any of them help us?

Mike Hammer's avatar

Maybe he wants to mobilize the Venezuelan Death Squads.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

He does not need int'l others to accomplish that. We have all he needs here

Linda Weide's avatar

I am in Germany, an ally country, or should I say formerly an ally country in the EU, until Trump decided to disparage the EU at theThe people here heard Trump say the deaths of people who helped the war against Iraq, isn't this just like Orwell's "1984" in that the enemies and allies keep changing. I suspect there are going to be a lot of protests in Germany if the US continues to stage its war on Iran from bases in Germany. First of all, it will draw terrorist actions against Germans if Germany is seen as supporting this attack on Muslims.

Russia is taking advantage to attack Ukraine.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Good reporting, thank you. None of it is surprising and German protests are good

Unfortunately we are going to soon see how our “former” allies feel about us. Because of their proximity, they are definitely going to feel the pain of this demonic administration. The bridges that trump & his cronies have burned in just one year will be felt for generations. It’s truly terrifying. The enrichment to his family has grown exponentially, where is the outrage? Why was it son-in-law Jared Kushner involved in any sort of “peace“ talks?  He has no qualifications or any type of job in this administration, except for to make more money. His father is a convicted felon for multiple reasons. I grew up in a town where Charles  Kushner raised his children. They are all despicable people. He even created The Kushner Academy. A pardon does not change the person you are at the core of your being. We now have a president who is a 34 count felon rapist & racist who is doing this ALL to distract us from the TRUMPSTEIN FILES. HE IS PUTTING THE LIVES OF OUR SONS & DAUGHTERS IN DANGER JUST TO HIDE THE TRUTH OF WHO HE IS AT HIS CORE.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

So true. Most sociopathic, narcissistic, personality disordered people are that way

Your Congress has had the power to stop Donald Trump, but the Republicans must have some skeletons in their closet because they don't have a backbone. Even most of your Democrats are bought by Israel. Shame. That attack on Iran was not approved by your Congress as we all know, why did your military follow those orders?

My heart breaks for those girls killed at the school in Iran. As someone who fought in Afghanistan, I know that 'air superiority' doesn't mean anything to a grieving mother. This war is spreading fast and it’s getting out of control. We need to stop this madness now.

David Hanna's avatar

Retired now, but I used to visit a lot of 'assymetrical playgrounds'. Guns in the sky mean nothing. Boots on the ground are useless on foreign battlefields. We won in France because of the french, we defeated the 'jappo's' in the CincPacWest because of naked islanders.

We are imitating Ruzzia and starting a sinkhole that will suck lives and treasure and all to satisfy one ego, some billionaires and Lindsey Graham (will some gay dude take one for thr team and tell him he is both gay and bloodthirsty).

Let's stop this before it get's started.

Indigenous18,000's avatar

It is not a surprise the first target was young girls. Those types of weapons are very accurate. What message does that send?

Sandy's avatar

All of this is so unnecessary! We have a regime that doesn’t care about out anyone but themselves! We need to immediately impeach. Article 2 Section 4! I am so very sorry for the families of these service people! This should have NEVER happened!

Pati Muth's avatar

All the damn MAGA REGIME could say about our military dying is "Freedom is never Free"! The only FREEDOM we needed is FREEDOM from this EVIL MAGA REGIME! This is only going to get worse unless Congress gets their shit together and get rid of this entire REGIME!!!

CNPP And Far Right Attach To Culture Issues: The Subtle Messaging

The CNPP(Christian Nationalist Pedo Party) has made no secret that they want to become identified with culture issues Take the most recent government release of RFK’s video of him and Kid Rock doing a sauna work out putting their hypermasculinity message on full display(https://bit.ly/3P9wREF) getting a “MAGA body” Or Hegseth pumping iron with the military perpetuating the anti woke propaganda implying that there’s no room for weak men Attaching ripped bodies with the CNPP targets young men who would join the military or their movement And now photo banners of Cheeto on the DOJ building and Charlie Kirk on the Dept of Education building identifies the CNPP heroes

It’s part of the Republican Nazi propaganda playbook of the current regime As a Guardian article(https://bit.ly/49qifHt) discusses the far right uses seemingly innocent cooking videos or music to engender following the ideology of extremism of the CNPP

So the short answer as to why culture issues are used as propaganda campaign ploys is “because it sells” But these issues are just propaganda to distract us from realizing they are picking our pockets, gutting our schools, destroying our healthcare while they give tax breaks for their billionaire donors, pardon the wealthy for convicted crimes and raise taxes on all the rest of us

The real fight is not right vs left, it’s top vs bottom

that workout video was gay AF. also, who is drinking milk IN A HOT TUB?

Kat Pan's avatar

It's G.O.A.T. milk. Fortified with ego, strength, and manliness but lacks critical thinking, truth, compassion, integrity, empathy and knowledge.

Pat Robinson's avatar

You are right, but I wish you wouldn't disparage goats! They actually are great animals, and their milk is both healthy and a life saver for millions of folks who don't have access to cow's milk. I don't like that folks who translated the Bible into English say that Jesus said In Matthew 25:31-46, in describing the Final Judgment, where He acts as a shepherd separating nations, he will be placing the righteous "sheep" on His right (honor) and the unrighteous "goats" on His left (rejection). Sheep inherit the kingdom for caring for the needy ("the least of these"), while goats are condemned for neglecting them. I think at the time when Jesus lived goats were a very important part of the lives of millions of people, providing milk, milk products, and meat...as were sheep and both still are and I personally do not think goats should be maligned by making mean people be identified with them. The Wisconsin Dairy Association says around 65-70% of the world's population relies on goat milk and meat...would Jesus really have put them in the same boat with people who happily stave other people? I think not!

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

No one in power paid attention to three critical points in time:

Day 1. Start of hostilities (yesterday(

Day 2. The next day (today)

Date 3 > What happens next:

• What is the mission? It is not Freedom for the Iranian people

(That nonsense did not fly in Iraq 25 years ago and will not now)

• How is success measured; what metrics?

• Will an air and naval war become a ground war?

• How many more troops will die or be maimed?

• When and based on what will troops be withdrawn?

• Who runs a country of 92M people?

• What happens if that way does not please our king?

• How will the rest of the world react? Politically? Economically?

• Will Russia redouble its efforts against The Ukraine?

• Will China decide that now is time to seize Taiwan?

• What happens to NVDA/TSMC if China holds Taiwan?

• Will the PDRK take this opportunity to be more aggressive?

• Where will be next and what pretext will be given for there?

David Hanna's avatar

Unfortunately, we know the answers to almost all of those rhetorical statements, 'cause there is certainly no questioning the assumptions.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Mission? Mass Distraction for both Bibi and Don Cheeto.

Success? We go from victory to victory, just like Vietnam.

Troops dying? I will weep for their mothers and sisters, but if they're hot, no promises. But they signed up to be shot, the idiot.

Withdrawal Conditions? Did you just say, "Oil"?

Who runs it? Me

Please the King? That's me, and if we have to kill a few, well then... Bim, Bomb, Boom.

World Reaction? I am the world.

China, Cheena, Choochie and Tie One On? No, that is where they make all the best chios. I love Pringles in the bath tub, because Melanoma would never think to look for me there.

Royal Becca's avatar

It’s not the same as playing with those toy soldiers, is it?

Robot Bender's avatar

For them, it is. For our servicemembers, not so much.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

To stop it requires Brass with brass. Pete forced out former elites. Field level officers (Majors, Lt. Colonels and Colonels) and their Naval counterparts (Lt. Commanders, Commanders, and Captains) need to step up and stop following illegal orders. They may be risking their careers (they would be) but it is unlawful to follow illegal orders (and this War without Congressional Authority provides them with no cover) and they are exposing their subordinates, whom they are charged to protect with risks of complicity and more immediately awful things wars can do to humans in one second

David Hanna's avatar

Our service members are incredible people and I have seen and done things with them in places so strange as to boggle the mind. I led a batch across the Andes, and they thought they were prepared, but they all got off near the road to Mendoza with only one case of attitude sickness. Another batch met me in the Kerakourams and one army guy literally gave me his coat. Another batch actually kinda rescued me in South Mexico when I was severely injured. I say kinda because I still had to lead them out on my own power. Another time, a different group shot their carbines dry in a bad place. Then we ran. Most of these guys were not operators, just handy and close servicemen asked to do a piece of work. A few were even embassy marines, strapped up for bad business.

What I am getting at, is the Orange Julius Ceasar Salad w/fries is treating them like his own little private dictator take over tool. And the moral swamp n that it places you in is worse than any three layer jungle.

Do I refuse this order because it came illegally from djt.

Or because it's illegal for my C.O. to give this order.

And, is he or she giving it because they think it's legal.

And, I am finding the order illegal.

My C.O. legally has to give me the order, so is he clear and it's up to me to refuse.

You see where these USMCJ quandries can lead. How far up or down the line does accountability stretch. And tRump is pushing the limits

Heggie the Veggie blew past that door miles ago. But where did the order originate, who sent it. On paper or just a verbal.
