I don't like to stereotype, but I think it is especially true in southern red states...the folks there have had generations of hate...supporting slavery and the KKK to extents not seen in northern or western states, and it has to be very much a generational thing...kids learn from their parents, and they learn hate quite easily when that is all they see at home. Their schools teach hate, somehow their Sunday Schools teach hate (I still don't get how they talk about Jesus and all he said to do and still convey that hate and cruelty are the way to be). So yes, I believe they will always be with us. But maybe as they move away and have kids who (heaven forbid) fall in love with persons of color, and those kids raise their own kids differently things will change. And as jobs become fewer and fewer and kids have to move out of the red states, while many will take their hate with them, some will change and pass their new values on to their own children. Sadly for me, this can/will take years and I will not live to see it.

The most unreliable thing in the world, "polls" seemed to say after the election that a lot of folks voted for trump because they believed he would "fix" the economy, bring priced down and get them affordable health care and create more jobs. If this is true those folks are not part of the real base of maga and they may be changing their minds for real...seeing reality and thinking "well this didn't work out, I need to try something else". And despite what trump says, the election wasn't that much of a landslide, and it may only take these lukewarm voters to switch side or not vote at all to make a difference in 2016. And I think that maybe, just maybe a mama bear protecting her young is more dangerous than the rabid cornered animal and we all need to be that mama bear.

What if all along she was a person with a moral compass; however, knew she couldn't get anywhere with it unless she totally endorsed trump. And to be honest, I don't know what a member of Congress is supposed to do...if more of your constituents are on SNAP benefits and/or are federal employees that get ACA subsidies, it made sense to vote to release SNAP benefits and get the workers back to work. But I am fairly sure that both the actions...freezing SNAP benefits and sending workers home without pay and/or firing them is illegal, but as we saw, it was taking weeks to get the SNAP issue through the courts, and it seemed as long as trump ignores the court orders there was nothing anyone could do.

I believe it was in Heather Cox Richardson’s Letters from an American, if not a different recent substack, where I read of the person with Russian ties who once worked for T. is considering running for president in order to hold the base together. I cannot think of his name now. The audio version of HCR’s letter was dated November 14, I believe.
Certainly there will be other people trying to carry on, and I hope that the people who did not see through the current president initially or who have not yet even, will be astute and attentive so more abuse to this country and to people from anywhere or in any country will not continue. We must be ever watchful and ever mindful.

While I realize that we must restore, preserve, and protect our government itself as quickly and fully as possible, including privacy, if that is ever possible, there are other concerns of great magnitude.
Among those concerns are these:
How can we stop the forward of disease and the lies about vaccines? How can we help the people who still suffering from his cruelty, have been beaten, deported wrongfully, separated from families, fired from their meaningful and needed jobs, are being starved or deprived of healthcare, have had their important papers stolen from them, have had their family members traumatized, are losing their homes or farms of not both, and/or have received still wrongs? How can we protect our national parks and more and restore life and nature to the conditions before the attacks and deprivations, or make those lands better still? How can we make sure that only truth is being taught in our schools and that his followers are not infiltrating every aspect of life and possibly buying up properties? How can we restore our White House? What can we do about saving The Kennedy Center? Can we restore the sending of good snd medicine to countries where they are needed? How can we ever restore our place in the worldwide setting with a positive image and regain our friendships with countries who have stood by us through many years in the past? How can we reopen the world of trade which helps people around the world mutually depend on each other to meet our needs for better lives and lasting friendships? How can we ever restore respect and caring where divisions have come about in this turmoil? Can we avoid such turmoil in the future? I hope we can overcome the travesties and rebuild lives and relationships in my lifetime. We need honesty, wisdom, caring, hope, faith, and each other.
We will need people who can co-ordinate. One issue impacts another issue and so on. Someone who sees the big picture and is surrounded by people who will speak up.
I imagine them making a giant poster with all of the issues you mention and the red strings connecting them and deciding which issue to deal with first and going from there.
It certainly won't be easy and who knows how long it will take and what changes will have to be made.

I hope you are right sort of about MTG...I don't think she is doing any of what she is doing because it impacts her family. Yahoo finance says MTG is now worth 25 million (up from $700,00 when she entered office) so even with the $700,000 she had when elected she has plenty to pay for health insurance for her kids and grand kids is she has any. I think she is just a bit smarter that most folks give her credit for and she saw that in her district there are enough voters to support her without trump's endorsement, and she now has plenty of ammunition to campaign against any republican he chooses to run against her, and with her open stance against his hiding the epstein files and no health care plans she can get enough other voted to be sure to be reelected. Plus she's getting tons of media exposure which she thrives on. You are for sure she is n ot right.
I have had this crazy thought about MTG. It is a What If?
What if all along she was a person with a moral compass; however, knew she couldn't get anywhere with it unless she totally endorsed trump. What if she deliberately made stupid remarks like lasers started fires, endorsed Q'anon nonsense for the attention that it brought to her. and indeed she did get a lot of attention, her name stands out and I think most people recognize it.
Having done that she can now speak out and have attention focused on what she says and sway some of the people who adore trump.

I love your what if!!! I sometimes have thought along the same lines regarding the 8 senators who caved to trump...without saying it out loud maybe they really did it not to put the ACA sort of back on the table for public debate and to show yet again the GOP has no plan for health care but rather just to get the Epstein files on the table so everyone has to for either for or against pedophiles.
I have also played around with that thought. I think that I saw it mentioned even before I saw Ben's analysis to the contrary.
I have to admit I was totally pi$$ed when I first heard of it. I saw it as "bending the knee", a sell out, you name it.
It did though, get things moving again re Epstein, so there is that.
And to be honest, I don't know what a member of Congress is supposed to do...if more of your constituents are on SNAP benefits and/or are federal employees that get ACA subsidies, it made sense to vote to release SNAP benefits and get the workers back to work. But I am fairly sure that both the actions...freezing SNAP benefits and sending workers home without pay and/or firing them is illegal, but as we saw, it was taking weeks to get the SNAP issue through the courts, and it seemed as long as trump ignores the court orders there was nothing anyone could do.
A totally frustrating situation for anyone with a conscience.
If the Repubs were smart, every last one of them would vote to have the files released.
I don't think Bondi would be able to find and file charges against all of them.
That would surely put trump into cardiac arrest.

The rest of America had better take a lesson from this. It could have been easily avoided just by showing up last November at the polls. I believe it was in Heather Cox Richardson’s Letters from an American, if not a different recent substack, where I read of the person with Russian ties who once worked for T. is considering running for president in order to hold the base together. I cannot think of his name now. The audio version of HCR’s letter was dated November 14, I believe.
Certainly there will be other people trying to carry on, and I hope that the people who did not see through the current president initially or who have not yet even, will be astute and attentive so more abuse to this country and to people from anywhere or in any country will not continue. We must be ever watchful and ever mindful.

No one else has his particular evil charisma. That's what created MAGA - not the platform, but the man. MAGA is going to fracture into all the divisions that kept it in check before Rump.
What we have to watch for are the sneaky actions that the bought and paid for Congress will slide into seemingly beneficial legislation. Get rid of Citizens United and that threat becomes less likely as well.
What surprises me is that anybody ever saw or still sees charisma when the personality has always seemed nothing more than repulsion with an attitude of hatred and detriment toward other people. None of those characteristics fit into Christianity, and I doubt that they fit into any other religious beliefs. If nobody else has such a personality, then bravo!

While I realize that we must restore, preserve, and protect our government itself as quickly and fully as possible, including privacy, if that is ever possible, there are other concerns of great magnitude.
Among those concerns are these:
How can we stop the forward of disease and the lies about vaccines? How can we help the people who still suffering from his cruelty, have been beaten, deported wrongfully, separated from families, fired from their meaningful and needed jobs, are being starved or deprived of healthcare, have had their important papers stolen from them, have had their family members traumatized, are losing their homes or farms of not both, and/or have received still wrongs? How can we protect our national parks and more and restore life and nature to the conditions before the attacks and deprivations, or make those lands better still? How can we make sure that only truth is being taught in our schools and that his followers are not infiltrating every aspect of life and possibly buying up properties? How can we restore our White House? What can we do about saving The Kennedy Center? Can we restore the sending of good snd medicine to countries where they are needed? How can we ever restore our place in the worldwide setting with a positive image and regain our friendships with countries who have stood by us through many years in the past? How can we reopen the world of trade which helps people around the world mutually depend on each other to meet our needs for better lives and lasting friendships? How can we ever restore respect and caring where divisions have come about in this turmoil? Can we avoid such turmoil in the future? I hope we can overcome the travesties and rebuild lives and relationships in my lifetime. We need honesty, wisdom, caring, hope, faith, and each other.
We will need people who can co-ordinate. One issue impacts another issue and so on. Someone who sees the big picture and is surrounded by people who will speak up.
I imagine them making a giant poster with all of the issues you mention and the red strings connecting them and deciding which issue to deal with first and going from there.
It certainly won't be easy and who knows how long it will take and what changes will have to be made.
